I been following Kaveri engine since I was 24, btw now I am 37. really waiting to see that in our indigenous Tejas fighter program and upcoming AMCA. Thank you for explaining in simple words.
Developing an indigenous jet engine program is a wickedly difficult problem to solve. The British, French, Germans, Americans Russians and Chinese all had enormous difficulties in achieving it. From what I have read, it is not like a "plug and play" or "off the self" technology that can be easily bought and then transferred. It is much more like an artisanal craft that has to be cultivated over time.
It was very critical technology & hard to make but now with advance manufacturing technologies like rapid prototyping & additive manufacturing with better knowledge on metallurgy by Midhani & Godrej aerospace, DRDO materials lab & Bharat Forge India will soon make Kaveri engine fly on it's own!! ❤
I work in an adjacent industry and our capability around materials is absolutely pathetic. We NEED to invest on really good next gen materials, extraction and processing capabilities and FAST.
For the jet turbine aficionados there is a TH-cam channel called AGENTJAYZ, run by a jet mechanic who explains the innards of a jet engine with engines being serviced.
Yes, the core needs to withstand really very high temperature. So very higher level of metallurgy required to develop such high performing Thermal resistant core (specially in afterburner section).
It is not considering weight of engine and efficiency being on par with RD-33 in MiG-29 despite having far smaller bypass. This indicates that Kaveri engine will have considerably better efficiency when comes to supersonic flight compared to RD-33.
It's delayed because we don't have expert men in building jet engines our so called intelligent IITians also no match to create this cutting edge machine
In this case we have to throw money at it, there is no substitute. From what I remember the total money spent on Kaveri development is less than one billion usd. This is pittance compared what the Chinese and the westerners are spending on jet research and development.
After Low pressure compressor there are high pr compressor stages generally 12 stages......and it is not single shaft ....the High pressure turbine and low pressure turbines are driving the compressor stages through system of planetary gear box In modern low bye pass turbofan engine it may have 3 shafts for better engine performance. After LP T exhaust comes the afterburner........use of aft burn is not good as your infrared signature ballooons..
I just one thing failed to understand, if we have problems in making jet engine then why can't we take help from France ! They are willing to help, off course after paying a hefty amounts. But that will be beginning. Maruti Sujuki used to assemble once. Today just see what they are capable of.
First no one will help you simply its not a cake walk.not only amount behind the scene politics will be there second jet engine is crucial technology cant trust blindly anyone
Designing, Prototyping, Testing & finally manufacturing a JET Engine from scratch takes 2 decades at least if not more - (1) The Congress govt. in 80s & 90s got busy with dirty politics & dividing the country. (2) Emphasis was given on spending tax payers money to procure Western products than to incentivise DRDO, HAL, BARC & IITs to create MADE IN INDIA. (3) The whole Kaveri Engine fiasco is atleast 1 decade late. (4) My personal observation - We Indians are a bunch of lazy geniuses who won't wake up until it's a do or die situation (American Weapons Manufacturer GE delaying to provide Jet Engines to India). Jai Hind. Vande Mataram 🙏🏼🇮🇳

This is just terrible. Pratt/Whitney geared turbofans are now looking at 50/1 compressions ratios, similar to a Diesel, and Bypass Ratios of 15/1, using a 6meter fan. This video is showing WW2 German jet engine technology.
What is suggested in this video is becoming evident. There is cup but it's nowhere near the lip. GTRE babus must be planning soulful retirement but incompetence is becoming obvious. They have an engine and four wheels. but not a car.
GTRE ka sabse zayada fault hai, IAF ka pass pahle se task hai, uske liye wo requirements rakhta equipment k form mai. Agar MIC uss equipment ko deliver nahi kar pa raha hai toh issme IAF ka fault kaise hai. Tum ye keh sakte ho k isme Indian STEM ka fault hai, k woh knowledge k liye research aur uss knowledge ko practical products mai convert nahi kar pa rahe hai. MOD toh pol alliances aur bureaucracy se grasit hai.

Thanks for explaining the basics. Keep doing more of the same

Chini controls the Rhenium....a metal required for HPT stage blades...HPT blades also have skin cooling (in F-15 super hornet) by bled compressed air
Then why even China couldn't be able to make good quality jet engines.
I think design is the main issue of our delay in the program.
engine Weight is also a problem that gets mentioned a lot regarding Kaveri engines
I work in an adjacent industry and our capability around materials is absolutely pathetic. We NEED to invest on really good next gen materials, extraction and processing capabilities and FAST.
excellent explanation
Love your videos. Simple, informative and effective. No nonsense. Subscribed.
Based on this info now I feel it's deliberately being delayed.
Agree completely

And there are many nations who developed it just learn from chinese kya hum logo ke pass nkal karne ki bhi akal nahi hai kya
Thank you
Well explained. Thanks

DRDO- delay reporting departmental office
Bypass ratio of tejas is said to really bad, it 0.16. All the modern engines have around 0.34 to 0.36.
Tejas? Surely you mean Kaveri?

You did not mention about the single crystal blade technology.
Meterial and technology is main😊
Hey doc why doesn't GTRE try making a high bypass turbofan first and then put that learning into low bypass turbofan? Would that be a good idea ?
No bypass (ie core turbojet) is the 1st step. Everything else will follow.
This is the area where company like Bharat Forge comes into play who can design the components. They have the expertise. Also partner with Midhani.

You are wrong. The main problem is western agents sabotaging development. A lot of senior government officials on CIA payroll

Paradoxical. Om kaveri,
