    Good review, I bought my gf this bike last year. She doesn't ride anywhere near as much as I do, so I've been using it as a commuter bike. It's not the best, but for the money, it's pretty good.

    I've own this bike in exactly this colour for over a month now. I am 175 cm tall and opted for the smaller 54 frame... slammed the stem and fitted a -17 degree 105 mm stem with a saddle to bar drop of 8 cm. I use it as a commuter bike and wanted to ride in exactly the same position as my race bike.
    The handling of the bike is very good, it rides stable and predictable, but the steering is not slow at all... You can turn into corners wonderfully and when sprinting, the frame is stiff enough. The riding characteristics surprised me positively because the bike is not light at just 10.5 kg.

    Do Trek do this frame with 105 or Ultegra groupset and hydraulic disc brakes?
    Also could you a review of a Trek Farley fat bike?

    • @sebibuchs
      @sebibuchs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi! yeah the AL 5 comes with a 105 groupset and hydraulic disk brakes, which makes a cool ride, although it retails for double the price (2099.-) if I get my hands on a Farley I can do a review for sure, just have to have the opportunity, cheers!

    • @alexmorgan3435
      @alexmorgan3435 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sebibuchs Thanks for your reply. Not to worry about the Farley. I was interested in it but emailed Trek about getting 170mm cranks on it instead of 175mm. The S comes with 170mm but the M with 175mm. I wanted an M but Trek say No I would have to buy 175mm then change afterwards to 170mm at my own cost. Well fuck you Trek, you just lost a sale. Dreadful customer service. Shame as their frames are ok. But I'll look at other manufacturers. I have an older Trek road bike AL frame with Ultegra 6500 on it which is still ok was thinking of treating myself to a new road bike. But not from Trek. Will likely look as Specialised as well as other brands. Thanks again.

    • @sebibuchs
      @sebibuchs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@alexmorgan3435 yeah it would cost too much for them, I think they calculate their costs extremely carefully, of course all for the profit since they are so big now, who can blame them?:P this is the capitalist system, what I really like and would recommend is to buy a frame (new or used) and then build up the bike on your own (as far as you can) that way you can get exactly what you want, because if you spend alot of money for a bike that does not fit or satisfy you it's a bummer, all the best for you !:)

    • @sebibuchs
      @sebibuchs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This has a 2x8 Claris group set. Which components would you get to upgrade the brakes to hydraulic?

    • @sebibuchs
      @sebibuchs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Of course you would need to change the whole groupset if you want (as an example) a tiagra groupset with hydraulic groupset (i think its one of the cheapest) or you could get the trp brakes that operate with a mechanical cable but the have a hydraulic braking procedure: the „HY/RD“

    • @C5FlyingSquad
      @C5FlyingSquad 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the helpful review! I'm looking at buying this bike. I have roughly £1000 to spend. Am new to road cycling, and want to commute and tour as well as well as long rides at weekends. Do you think this is the best option for that kind of money? What do people think? What else is out there? Currently in the UK, as probably with everywhere, there is very little stock of bikes, but this one is around. Thanks for any info

    • @sebibuchs
      @sebibuchs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you can get your hands on a new bike these days then you‘re lucky:) another option would be to look out for used ones which sometimes can be really good value. The AL 2 is nice since you can upgrade it later and it will have all the modern standards like 12x142 rear thru axle and flat mount disc brakes so it is easy to find parts:)
