  • Here I start on Mr. Green. Its been sitting in my shop for some time now but I was at a stand still with the other cars I was working on so I thought Id try to get it running. Will it run? Good question.

    my '60 thunderbird with a newly rebuilt engine was overheating, I suspected the old radiator and so I ordered an aluminum replacement made by Champion from JEGS. 300.00 vs 600.00 for a copper and brass original looking replacement. I was a little skeptical but the champion fit like a glove, all mounting holes lined up great and wow what a difference it made. with a 165 thermostat it now runs at 175 after warm-up vs 210 before replacement. can't complain

      I have rebuilt a lot of engines for people over the years and one of the things that I required with the job is a recored radiator, I wont do one without recoring the rad. I learned this lesson early on, on one of my first rebuilds when this lady refused to have the rad recored and after she left my shop, the radiator failed and the new engine overheated on the freeway. She tried to blame me but I quickly reminded her of our conversation. Its funny how people refuse to take responsibility for their mistakes. Its nice to hear that your radiator fits. I've got three here that don't fit, one for a 1970 dodge challenger, one for the caddy and one for the 58 Fairlane. My advice to everyone is to have their original radiator recored to avoid unforseen problems that will cost you more money in the long run. Thanks.

    Hello Nick. I have to admit I was looking at the top of your head to see if was still getting banged up! lol. Thanks for the warning about the radiator issue. I don't know of anyone in my area that recores them any more.

    I bet the $900.00 rebuilt rad is of much better quality than the aluminum import.

      Hey Alvin, what happened was, I took the rad to Matts and he said $900 so the customer said that he will buy a new one so I picked up the rad. Then the new aluminum rad didn't fit so we had to take the original rad back to Matts and have him fix it. Then Matts said that it only needed to be repaired but not recored so he just fixed it and that cost $250. I hope it works, just put it in yesterday but have not run it yet. Thanks.

    Have a question about a 1966 t-bird. I bought it with the a/c compressor removed and want to reinstate it. I was wondering if there is a compressor that i can buy that's newer that will retro fit into the same space. I've heard that the original is a complete house power suck. Also, any suggestions on where to buy new pneumatic lines for the hvac system? Thank you.

      Hey Scott, I use Classic Auto Air. There are other companies too, just look on the web. They have aftermarket stuff that they say works on the Thunderbird. I'm skeptical these days when anyone says something aftermarket fits and works because of all the trouble I've had with them. Most of it is BS. However, this is not to say it doesn't work. I've never used their aftermarket stuff so I cannot vouch for it. Supposedly you can get everything from them. The vacuum hoses are common vacuum hose that you can pick up at any auto parts store. I show the sizes in my video 1964-66 vacuum system diagrams. They are 5/64", 7/32", and 5/32". I use Gates vacuum hose. Good luck.

    need front replacement shocks for 1964 tbird have not been able to locate shocks online that has a threaded end long enough to attach to upper mounting point
    any advice or suggestions would be helpful

      Hey Allen, Ive been buying shocks from the Birds Nest for many years now and Ive not had a problem with them. You need to lube the threaded end and then pull it up through the upper shock plate bushing with a vice grip while the upper shock plate is bolted to the shock tower. Obviously I grab the threaded end at the tip where there are no threads and I squeeze the upper shock plate onto the threaded end far enough to get the vice grips on the tip, then I bolt it down and pull the shock shaft through. Easy peasy. Thanks.
