    Honestly, having (fully) walked around NYP and SP during my time, i can say NYP's design is so damn easy to navigate around that you can almost NEVER get lost. SP is like a freaking huge maze and not forgetting the big hill at business

    NYP is quite known winning a lot of accolades in various competitions on the international stage like WorldSkills in IT and Social Sciences. It is super well-regarded for their IT and Nursing courses, as I know that many around me who wanted to pursue these as their careers placed them and their first choices.
    Although NYP is far from the prettiest "campus" vibes as compared to its counterparts, I would like to argue that its design is very practical, all the walkways are wide and shelters you from the elements, and the large "equal" sign design makes it such that it is extremely hard to be lost on campus. Just follow the signs and keep walking straight then turn left/right and you'll be where you need to be with ease.
    Not to mention, it is in a central location such that travel to town by train for after school hangouts is super quick!
    Source: Am a proud IT alumni from NYP!

    i am from RP, and it wa honestly a very good experience. The lecturers are very engaging and 1 lecturer to 30 people is a good ratio. Sure, it feels very similar to school, except that the after school activities such as sports and other extracurriculars are very good. RP feels more like JC, but with the PBL and the reflection journal without the difficulty of JC. I graduated with Diploma in Aerospace Engineering and went on to NUS to study and graduate with a Degree in Mechanical Engineering. So yeah, they are recognized and you can really progress well from there. Am already working now in oil and gas and RP was really way more fun than my uni life, don't ever regret going to RP.

    15:00, RP alumnus here.
    Not just for Year 1, we did have to submit Reflection Journal every year but we only have to learn and solve 1 module a day. So, we had to submit only 1 RJ every day before the end of the day which is "23:59". I wasn't happy about it at first but I got used to it after the first semester.

    Before Temasek Poly moved to Tampines, the Engineering campus was next to the old Zouk. We would go for Mambo night every Wednesday. If we have a break in between lectures, we would take a bus to Orchard Road for lunch and window shopping. Also Zion Road Hawker Center nearby.

  • @bearys
    @bearys 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

    i would say TP is very convenient for easties or even people who live on north-east like me, they provide shuttle bus from hougang if i remember correctly. IKEA is also a few bus stops away so if you are into IKEA food that's stonks. When I was still a student there, sometimes the old chang kee van will drive into the middle of the campus to sell snacks. Also the classes timetables was very flexible so it's really a plus. Personal favourite food is Business school's tomyum ban mian, salad end Engineering school's spicy nuggets (not sure if they are still there).
    for those who are applying into poly or taking o lvls this year, i highly suggest you to do thorough research, talk to your seniors from every poly and get to know their daily routine in that poly. PLEASE ALSO MAKE SURE YOU WANT TO STUDY WHAT COURSE YOU PICKED. seeing people drop out courses is sad. personally, it was course > poly for me and i was lucky enough that TP Design school culture was something i preferred while also being my passion. if travelling an hr to school everyday allows you to study what you love and become your future career path, i think it is worth it.

    Honestly NYP isn’t the same as before anymore. Although the school campus does not look the best out of all the polys out there, it is really easy to navigate through the blocks and different “schools”. The google maps from the mrt station to NYP is not accurate too, the gps show how to go to the main entrance through the first floor of the campus. There is a fully sheltered walk to the campus from the mrt station, to the underpass and finally to the ground floor of the campus. Attendance wise, we don’t use cards as a way to register our attendance anymore as per my knowledge, the lecturers do take the attendance by looking at the attendance sheet (which has the student’s face on it). Overall I’ll rate a B at most, maybe a C. Not the best school for me imo as I feel like the modules and lectures doesn’t fit me.

    SP alumni here, a long time ago, I can attest to the long course from bio/chem side (canteen 1) to the business side (canteen 6), terrain is like a marathon, flat on chem side and more hills and stairs to business. Got my engineering dip but never used it, so def agree to go with your interest (I went with my father’s choice to my regret). I got full 5 points for CCA, which I never used as I did not go to uni in SG, so in the scheme of things, do not get too hung up in your choices, just follow your interests and you will eventually get to where you want to be (even if the route is a bit longer than usual). The key thing is the journey there, less about the end result.

    Haha love the Daily Ketchup but won't agree that NYP is ranked E here la. It has amazing Nursing courses where loads of our good nurses in SG comes from! I can tell you our foods are very nice, we have like 5 canteens. There is like north canteen, south canteen, Koufu at blk a, food connect at blk a, foogle at blk p1.
    To me the atmosphere is very lively and there are many ccas that is very exciting 😊. The teachers and peers are all equally nice.

    Quite alot has changed for RP in recent years, as a soon-to-be graduating student, I have seen the gradual shift of mindset by senior management because of the feedback of students, most modules now are not marked daily, but are in Large Learning Packages (LLP) so you get a grade after a few lessons, and RJs are less frequent now. And as with any policy, there are pros and cons to it, but all in all a very good school who's senior management has shown to be receptive of ground feedbacks.

    Ngee Ann Poly produced Billionaire Sim Wong Hoo, creative technology's founding father. The first sound card was invented by his company. Revolutionised the PC's beeps and boops to proper sounds. I feel you did Ngee Ann dirty by ranking it B just because of that one hazing incident done by an immature adult. TBH as an employer the standards of students produced by Ngee Ann is very different from your A tier SP. The students are more disciplined and more well rounded.

    I was from Anderson Sec and then AJC. NYP was our savior for food and study space.
    I also agree with how A level can crush your spirit. After J1, I also felt like why I study so hard for Os then go JC. J1 Promos were hard and I saw a friend drop out of Jc. When I wanted a better study environment that didn’t feel so stifling, I went to NYP to study. This was years ago though, I hope NYP still open to other people to go in.
    I got another post on RP. It makes zero sense to me how NYP can rank lower than RP. The study environment is heaven lor. Haven’t compared with JC. Don’t look at EJ la. To know how bad AJ was, since it doesn’t exist now, go visit NJ now.

    TLDR I actually take issue with PBL because my RP interns are the most useless interns our dept ever had and I DO NOT THINK it is their fault. I think RP PBL teaches zero workplace skills. Please comment if you think otherwise.
    Hearing the ‘structured curriculum’ comment in the vid, as a parent, I get worried if this misleads other parents watching. Based on my experience plus hearing about the journal writing, it sounds like a structured curriculum to keep students in line, but never actually learn any actual skills. Journaling teaches you to reflect on how to learn. But I always feel tertiary education and its exorbitant fees is to UPSKILL isn’t it? I don’t see my RP interns having basic skills that any poly worth its salt should have taught.
    I hope to hear back if RP students did feel they learnt useful things/skills for workplace from PBL.
    For context. I work in a bank and just need the interns to run basic reports on excel. All other polys students have no issue. Only RP students cannot do basic excel and understand how to read debit/credit in bank statements. Two rounds of RP interns and we told our HR never to send us RP interns again. Again, we believe it’s just fundamentally the PBL method doesn’t produce workers ready for our banking industry. I hope it doesn’t mean not ready for the wider job market outside banking industry, hence wanna hear comments.

    • @handleme1133
      @handleme1133 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi fellow RP student here, I do agree from my experience that PBL does not help to upskill but in my opinion, it does rather have the intention to help improve communication skills so that students can communicately effectively in workplaces. RP modules are not "as challenging as other school modules" thus I feel students are not expose enough to hard skills for the workplace (such in the way you mention can't do basic excel).
      Another thing just fyi, RP grading is not very equal for some students. Groupwork plays a part in our grading and it is very unfair if a teammate does not how to divide the fair share of work to his/her other team members. Also, which affects the student from developing skills for workplaces since they have been deprive the opportunity during lessons. I think you do know that RP emphasis learning by PBL which does mean students don't learn well if they can't apply their learning in group projects.

    TP A tier lah. Every sch got drama all the time, just whether got make to news or not. Tho looked quite sad last time but now they hv a vending machine that gives u microwave food that actually tastes decent plus renovated the front part of business. We also hv our own version of china supermarket that is 24/7 with palm scanners (a bit wonky but cool). We have the BEST scenary. During golden hour we go library can take damn good pics of reservoir. We r next door to a bbt shop too. IIT canteen is air-conditioned too. Food is good n cheap too. Overall it's coz sch rich n facilities r S tier.
    Side note: east side best side ;p

    From I hear from my RP friend, it really does sound like a middle ground of JC n poly. They hv a lot of reflections, they r constantly stressed coz daily classes r all graded. It's like legit "consistency is key" I'm not from rp but I'm glad I didn't go there😅

    Denise: I want to see NYP do advertisement for people to say good things about them?
    JP: People at NYP wake up your idea?
    Just because you are immersed in your groupthink doesn't mean its the factual truth. Was an avid fan but utterly disappointed with the rubbish and utter lack of respect for NYP in particular, pui! Unsubscribing both podcast and YT

    The toughest part about RP is not the RJ… I always scored very well for it. It’s about dealing with bullies and ostracism 🥹
