When I was in China in 2004, I rode in a shuttle at the airport that looked a lot like the Robovan. Just like Sandy mentioned, it lowered so low that a small ramp came down, allowing a wheelchair to roll up easily. Then, it rose back up before driving off. The Robovan design really reminds me of the vans from the I, Robot movie.

I saw you at the event Sandy, glad you made it. I had to leave early to catch my train so unfortunately I didn't get a ride. You should have been way up at the front of the line with the VIPs.
An earlier mention of the van/bus was it is bidirectional, suggesting 4-wheel steering. It sure looks to fit that image. Such a base could also carry a box container or be a flatbed.
Real investors look at evidence not hopes and dreams . Hope and dreams people are speculators . Doesn’t mean you can’t make money as a speculator but more often than not you get separated from your money .
You'll have to forgive them. They were told there would be 1M robotaxi running by 2020 and now we "might" see the first ones before 2027. Tesla has a EPS that never made sense but now it is even harder to rationalize with another set of broken timelines and not much progress. If you think the future is Tesla's 2 seater version of the old Honda Insight that requires an entire system retrofit for wireless charging I have a bridge to sell you.
Thanks Sandy, Best presentation I've seen showing what the night was really about. How many robotaxis did you see? The big question is what the Devil are we going to do with all the carbon based life forms in ten years?
The Robovan is pretty exciting product. I wish we heard more details on that and a release date. I doubt it will come with steps, if it can kneel to ground level. If there is someone with a wheel chair, they will kneel it all the way down.
Wow, what an incredible presentation at WE ROBOT, Elon Musk! The CyberCab, RoboVan, and Optimus robots are absolutely mind-blowing - the future is truly spectacular. My 6-year-old daughter is already asking if Optimus can help her with her schoolwork and if it can play with her outside! She's also dreaming of having her own CyberCab so she can visit her sisters whenever she wants. It’s amazing how easily kids can see themselves in this futuristic world, while many so-called "experts" still struggle to see beyond their biases. This is the future, and it's closer than we think!
Ahh, I would hardly call that a review. As much as I enjoy and respect Sandy's opinion and analysis, this was nothing more than his very brief first impressions with virtually no detail. For the person who doesn't know Sandy Munro, I wouldn't be surprised if they viewed this as a marketing video for Tesla.
Sandy and most of the commenters here; you've seen something the rest of us missed. These were 2 cool vehicles, but they had so little detail behind them they could be years and years away from availability. Waymo, Mercedes and others are ahead in autonomous driving. And learning the robots were remotely controlled was another facade. Tesla needs the model 2, an updated model Y and the model X updated into a more traditional SUV. And less crazy talk from Mr. Musk that's driving away business. The starry-eyed folks who loved this show have already drank the Kool Aid, more substance is needed for the other 95%.
Yeah, Sandy needs to come back down to Earth and to Michigan after the event so that he is no longer fawning over what he had experienced and get back to doing critical analysis of tooling design and the lean manufacturing of vehicles.
That was a refreshing review. I can imagine smoke coming from the equity analysts spreadsheets trying to compute the future value of the AI generated software and electronics engineering plus the leadership by Musk. FSD is already here, running in the cars and robots. Well done Sandy.
Great analysis Sandy! One huge thing you surprisingly missed; the lack of a back window is for privacy. These will be electronically tethered and travel down the highway like a "cybertrain" because it cuts congestion by 60% and nearly doubles range through aerodynamic drafting. As such, if another car is three feet off your bumper, you wouldn't want them staring at the back of your head for hours.
volvo did it last year so another Tesla copy. No need for a rear window if you're not going to be doing reverse maneuvers or checking for traffic behind the vehicle.
The main reasons are cost and weight. No complicated heavy glass setting, no electronics, motor or wiring for rear demister or rear wiper. Cheaper and lighter. Reduced COGS and better efficiency for the car.
I think people are discounting the headlights flashing. The cab was able to perform extremely well with random headlights flashing, bikes passing by etc. All with just camera vision.
Sandy went to the first production car event with no steering wheels, two new battery vehicles, one is a battery bus, He got a automated car ride, there were robots serving drinks, and the robots were walking around with the people, and people are going to say that Sandy munro is just a tesla fanboy. hahahaha
I mean he is. Did he even know that the robots were teleoperated and that these cars were simply programmed to follow a set path? there was no true tech demonstration here other than wild looking vehicles. It was a disappointment to me as someone who loves tesla's engineering. and the stock price reflected as such.
As a Business guy and current Automotive Technology Management student I'm not worried about the short in the longterm (every event Tesla has held resulted in a rapid selling of shares) nothing is reflective of Tesla, just reflective on Wallstreets inability to appraise a stock past a 6 month period. Since their were no short-term benefits that are projected at these events, Wallstreet calls it 'disappointing'. It's baffling how smart and stupid Wallstreet is when you look at how they analyze a companies worth over such a short time, never considering long-term potential. Your mindset, and I mean this, respectively, is looking at the same short-term nitpicks that Wallstreet does, it's like trying to look at a prototype build and complaining baout it not being ready, we'll yah, it's not finished. Optimus is the same, ignoring the fact that software wasn't used, which is perfectly fine. What they demonstrated was that the robotics that actually go into operating the machinery is what this event is really showing off. Again, with the long-term promise that it will be able to do this remotely. It's all about patience, but I understand that that is a virtue, so many people don't know how to develop. I hope you can respect what I am trying to say and don't take offense, I just want to help you come away with a more positive take than what the majority see. 🤙🏻
@@sarkaranish how can you possibly know they were going on set paths? It’s possible, but there was no reason for it. Fsd can manage such short, easy routes, harder ones as well. There were set destinations, sure.
@@89bazoly The Hollywood backlot is just that... a simulation of a cityscape, not a real one. The only vehicles on site were ones that were allowed to be, and there is no indication that the vehicles had minds of their own or took whatever route had the least traffic or congestion. So of course it was a fixed, predetermined route. Why wouldn't it be? This event was a demonstration of *what could be* and not *what is.*
These cars look extremely more elegant than the competitors for sure Elon has embodied the quote “a new day is necessary” I’m enormously impressed and excited
Thanks! Great to hear your first impressions. Raymond Loewy meets Deming. I'd love to get your thoughts on Elon's view of the transportation future re ownership, etc. All the best
This was just a demo on a Hollywood backlot for a select few to see in person. The Robotaxi/cybercab wasn't a shock because of the concept drawing we've already seen, and the same for Optimus - we've already seen demonstration videos of them in action. Not much new here on display, really, except maybe the Robovan, which is just another form factor for a vehicle, and he didn't bother to mention its production date because it's so far off at this point.
Pumped! I love what I think the Robotaxi business model will look like. The Robotaxi is for businesses and owners of Tesla vehicles renting out rides in their vehicles using FSD. Room for everyone.
@@Fechual I guess you don’t remember his first Model 3 tear down video…he is no fanboy, he does the real work looking at every part of the cars, and he has the decades of engineering in the industry to back up what he says. Meanwhile, you are a loser living in mom’s basement…
When others have referred to Wall Street's demands for a company to be profitable and sustain it going forward as being "dogmatic," it's a good sign that there's a bubble.
I like the robo-taxi, though 2 seats aren't really enough (hello? Family of three at least?). Nothing was really demonstrated with the Optimus robots. The robots on display were clearly not doing any task switching so the training required for the display would have been minimal.
@@petermetro4686 Gotta manufacture an appropriate-sized vehicle before you can dispatch it. There is a huge gap between the 2-seater and a 20-seater. For that matter, the 2-seater shown is actually a fairly bad design when a similar form-factor could hold 4-seats in a 2-on-2 face-to-face topology. That would be far better suited as a robocab than what was shown. And as much as I'm sure some pundits and owners are salivating over regular private vehicles being used as robo-taxis to make their owners a bit of cash, the market saturation that Elon is obviously planning to achieve will make that more or less worthless. Private vehicles are not going to fill these gaps.
@@junkerzn7312 Most of Uber drivers only driver a single person or max of 2. No family with 3 kids will order an uber. So this is also design around that, this is for business people or people wanting to go to a place. For families, there is prob where the Robovan comes in, it can do 14-20 people.

Leveraging Existing Assets: For those who already own a vehicle, it represents an existing asset that could be put to work. 😂 Everyone kept saying the ROBOVAN is not going to work because it's too low to the ground... Randy answered that LIVE!!! AIR SUSPENSION FOLKS!!!
Adding a ramp on one side, is a great idea, too!
Many busses have air suspension! It is not a new discovery!!!!!
lol, they're definitely missing the forest for the trees. ground clearance is the least of this vehicle's problems.
@@freeaccess5905 and for some reason, anti-Tesla idiots seem to have forgotten that it exists.
Thanks!
Thanks!
amazing video guys - thanks for sharing your experience with us,
Sandy is always so polite and Appreciative. A joy to watch and always great content.
Carbon fibre! Wasnt expecting that 🤔
You can do anything you want in a prototype. Doesn't mean it's going to end up like that production.
Easier to prototype with carbon fiber, not cheap.
The Robovan reminds me of my mother’s old Electrolux vacuum cleaner from the 1950’s.
This looks more impressive than the live stream lol.
At 1:22 we can see what notifications for the Tesla app will look like. I also enjoyed the Plaid Airlines notifications right above. If Tesla or SpaceX or a separate Elon company ever does offer electric planes, I'm willing to bet it will be called Plaid Airlines :D
Appreciate the commentary
Nice to see someone with an upbeat video on the event. So much doom and gloom on the other sites
With all this automation so many people will be out of work taxi drivers , driving instructors , delivery drivers
Delighted you got the Invite
Best recap!
Excited about this technology even though the world is falling apart
I saw you at the event Sandy, glad you made it. I had to leave early to catch my train so unfortunately I didn't get a ride. You should have been way up at the front of the line with the VIPs.
I’m happy to see that you got invited you’re one of the best in the EV world, imo.
An earlier mention of the van/bus was it is bidirectional, suggesting 4-wheel steering. It sure looks to fit that image.
Such a base could also carry a box container or be a flatbed.
I wonder if it rolls on spheres instead of wheels
Sandy rocks!
The opposite of the Wall Street response. Thank you, Sandy. (They'll just have to catch up as they're able.)
They are not the smartest investors.
@@theBeachBusRI So 1st of all you don’t have a bridge to sell anyone, and the 2nd thing is if you have an alternative, why haven’t you presented it?
@@theodorehaskins3756 hahahahahahahahaha
Hope to hear your in-depth analysis of what you saw and heard.
We really appreciate your expertise and excitement in the future.
Great. Thanks for sharing this
we need to hear more from Sandy's opinion!
Thanks Sandy, Best presentation I've seen showing what the night was really about.
How many robotaxis did you see?
The big question is what the Devil are we going to do with all the carbon based life forms in ten years?
Now you understand the terrifying truth about the Autobots' homeworld and the vestigial passenger compartments that all the Autobots had.
Amazing to see the Cab can Handle such Heavy Light Floods and still react. Smart Sensors #PhotonCollectors
The only review that matters! 😄
Musk doing Musk, promises over promises.....
Yeah, Sandy needs to come back down to Earth and to Michigan after the event so that he is no longer fawning over what he had experienced and get back to doing critical analysis of tooling design and the lean manufacturing of vehicles.
Grandpa is living in the future he imagined and dreamed of as a kid!! 😅
That was a refreshing review.
I can imagine smoke coming from the equity analysts spreadsheets trying to compute the future value of the AI generated software and electronics engineering plus the leadership by Musk. FSD is already here, running in the cars and robots. Well done Sandy.
Only if Trump wins 😅
Sandy is really being objective!
Styling is great.
Riding in a giant toaster, looks like fun!
If only the people had popped out the top! 😂
@@alanrivaldo-h 😂
The first place i see where they can test and use the Robovan is the boring tunnels in Las Vegas!
It also makes the cabin smaller so it takes less energy to heat/cool
volvo did it last year so another Tesla copy. No need for a rear window if you're not going to be doing reverse maneuvers or checking for traffic behind the vehicle.
Very short video; can't get to everything
The main reasons are cost and weight. No complicated heavy glass setting, no electronics, motor or wiring for rear demister or rear wiper. Cheaper and lighter. Reduced COGS and better efficiency for the car.
How will it handle potholes with no ground clearance?
I think people are discounting the headlights flashing. The cab was able to perform extremely well with random headlights flashing, bikes passing by etc. All with just camera vision.
At very low speed on a fully mapped course, how is that impressive?
Sandy went to the first production car event with no steering wheels, two new battery vehicles, one is a battery bus, He got a automated car ride, there were robots serving drinks, and the robots were walking around with the people, and people are going to say that Sandy munro is just a tesla fanboy. hahahaha
I mean he is. Did he even know that the robots were teleoperated and that these cars were simply programmed to follow a set path? there was no true tech demonstration here other than wild looking vehicles. It was a disappointment to me as someone who loves tesla's engineering. and the stock price reflected as such.
@@sarkaranishdo all teslas ride on set paths?
Did Sandy get a pat down to check he wasn't carrying.. tools?
Good on him for asking if he could open the hood!
Hahaha 😂
These cars look extremely more elegant than the competitors for sure Elon has embodied the quote “a new day is necessary” I’m enormously impressed and excited
Sandy the Chief Shill Officer at Tesla 😂
You haters..
Thanks! Great to hear your first impressions. Raymond Loewy meets Deming. I'd love to get your thoughts on Elon's view of the transportation future re ownership, etc. All the best
The haters are sad now, Elon Mush Tesla, SpaceX, xAi, etc have proved them all wrong. The future is now and Elon delivered it.
Just like the demonstration of the Roadster 2...
Pumped!
I love what I think the Robotaxi business model will look like.
The Robotaxi is for businesses and owners of Tesla vehicles renting out rides in their vehicles using FSD.
Room for everyone.
I hope the liability is always on Tesla then and not the owner
Refreshing to see this review rather than the dogma views of Wall Street analysts that are worried about the next quarter.
The reviewer that chugs on Musk flavoured Kool aid? 😂😂
I am convinced, let's buy some shares Everybody.🎉
The future is NOW. In 10 years
Well done and cheers for being fair. ❤
Awesome video nice job!
I like the robo-taxi, though 2 seats aren't really enough (hello? Family of three at least?). Nothing was really demonstrated with the Optimus robots. The robots on display were clearly not doing any task switching so the training required for the display would have been minimal.
Talk to some cabbies.
would you think that the appropriate sized vehicle would be dispatched ?
@@junkerzn7312 AI response of advantages : While the potential for significant earnings from private vehicles as robo-taxis might be diminished by market saturation, there could still be some advantages:
Supplemental Income: Even if the earnings aren't substantial, they could provide a valuable source of supplemental income for vehicle owners.
Reduced Vehicle Costs: The revenue generated could help offset the costs of owning and operating the vehicle, such as fuel, maintenance, and insurance.
Leveraging Existing Assets: For those who already own a vehicle, it represents an existing asset that could be put to work.
Potential for Future Value: As the technology and regulatory landscape evolve, the value proposition of using private vehicles as robo-taxis could change.
It's important to note that these advantages would need to be weighed against the potential challenges and uncertainties associated with this business model.
I thought it was really cool when they brought out the Oldsmobile Silhouette.

I think Sandy is smart. Smart enough to know darn well what’s he’s doing.
AWESOME!
Can’t wait to see the cybercab tear down
Meet you back here in ten years time :-)
Does Sandy believe that those robots are powered by AI? Someone should tell him they, and the cars, are remotely controlled. There's nothing to see here except a concept of a plan.
Maybe the robots, but the cars? Do you actually KNOW that or is that something your repeating as true merely because you need to to be true to prop up your belief?
