    The Fused distribution block is not for protecting the equipment. It's for protecting the wire! The fuse you have installed on any wire should always be to match that wire's length and gauge. Whenever you split the power into several smaller gauge wires, you're suppose to have a smaller fuse for each wire. HOWEVER with how short the runs are for power to your amplifiers, this isn't the biggest safety concern, and the line is still fused from the primary wire so you won't start any fires, but you do run the small risk of toasting your wires, the risk is just very minimal. Just thought I'd share

    I just watched this. Great video. You mentioned within the video that you have done several videos about using relays. And I believe you mentioned videos specifically for wiring a relay to power multiple amps with the remote turn-on wire from your head unit. I'm having a hard time finding this video, if it does exist. Thanks.

    This video is wonderful. I have been doing mobile electronics / installations for almost thirty years (professionally for several years in my late teens/early 20's) and I've watched a lot of TH-cam videos on the subject. In my opinion this video has some of the most correct/accurate information packed into a relatively short amount of time, that I've ever seen. Basically zero misinformation or bad advice. My guess is this guy has been doing this for a long time... Make sure to LIKE this video and say Thanks to the guy for taking the time to make this video and spread good advice/practices. The more people that LIKE this video, the more people that will see it! (and there will be less fires / blown up electronics in the process!)

    Thanks Lessco, digg the info you give out. I'm looking to run a 5 Amplifier system. The main amp is a 5 channel that will run front components, rear coaxial, and 2 door shallow mount subs. As you can see that pretty much takes up the front, rear, and sub RCA's from the back of the head unit. My question is what or how can I get a signal to the other 4 amplifiers I plan on having to run the 4-15 inch subs? Think you can do a table layout or drawing video on how I can pull this off. Thanx

    When using an SPDT relay for amp turn wire. How big of a fuse should I use for the 12v+ constant? its a 40 amp relay but the current needed for my turn on accessories are 2 amplifiers and one battery isolator. The battery isolator is about 1 amp, and the 2 amplifiers are about 200 miliamps each. Would I use a 2 amp fuse on the relays 12v + constant?

      Yeah, I actually forgot the car has a factory amplifier (Bose). So thats another 200 miliamps. In that case, I should be using a 2 amp then? Also, I heard that you should be fusing the remote lines that are going to the devices, is this true? If thats the case, then I should be using say 200 miliamp fuses for the amplifiers (I have some 250 miliamp fuses would these be okay?) and a 1 amp fuse for the battery isolator?
      Thanks for your response btw.

    Question, i am going to connect two amps to the cap, but i was wondering if the inline fuses that belong to each amp can those remain? Positive lead from the cap out towards the, inline fuse, the wire out from the inline fuse towards the amp?
    I have a 100A circuit breaker switch at the batt since both amps equal 100A. The switch is mainly to cut power to the system entirely when leaving the car unattended for several days.

    • @Lesscoelectronics
      @Lesscoelectronics  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lidia Oliver you need to leave the 2 fuses there, because a 100a breaker wont protect and amp that is rate d for say 50a. the 100a should be there to protect the whole thing on the battery side, let the other 2 do what they do where they do it, in the rear of the vehicle (usually).

    Great video for beginners, but the one thing that is wrong, is that anytime you are wiring two or more amps, or adding signal processors, it is always advisable to use a relay on the remote turn on wire, as most remote turn leads do NOT supply enough amperage to turn on multiple components, and the head unit remote output can be damaged by the excessive current draw. The maximum output current is usually never listed by any radio manufacturers, neither is the current draw listed by amp manufacturers. Just trying to help save people from un necessary head unit repairs.

If yes do I have to upgrade the main fuse holder rating or can it stay at 60amps... alsssoooo do I instead have to buy a fuse block with one in and multiple fuses out?.. I hurried to ask this question and if anyone can help please it will be greatly appreciated, you an even email me or contact me anything, I just dont want to make any mistakes and cause a fire or blow my amp/s even tho they have replacenable fuses

    i have two components speaker for front and back.as of now im using 4ch. amp to power front and back and a mono to my sub.i want to add another 4ch amp to power my rear component speaker.do you mind to send me a wiring diagrams how to wire 3 amps together?cuz i want to use my one 4ch amp to my high and mid in front and the other one 4 ch. amp to power the rear high and mid..thanks hope you can help...

    I tried to add a another sub amp to my system, but all i got was feedback until i changed the audio source. when i used the output from my amp for my highs (as apposed to the output of my first sub amp) it worked fine. CAN THIS BE BECAUSE MY HIGHS HAVE A SEPARATE GROUND THAN MY LOWS? i really want to use the signal from my first sub amp for consistency, but i don't want to run another ground wire. WHAT IF I GROUND MY RCA CABLE (THE NEGATIVE OF THE RCA CABLE TO THE SAME GROUND OF MY HIGHS), WON'T THAT GET RID OF THE FEEDBACK AND ALLOW ME TO USE THE SUB OUT?

      +Orlando Rodriguez sometimes all you can do is try this and try that, Ive been there. First thing I'd do is unplug all the rcas and see if the noise is coming from the rca's or elsewhere.

    • @jackjacks
      @jackjacks 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Orlando Rodriguez had my rcas running near some control modules on my mazda. Noise gone once rcas literally moved 3 inches away.

      +Jackjacks I'm really not surprised. after trying what I mentioned, it eliminated the feedback, but I then got alternator noise. I've since gotten rid of that additional amp and sub, realizing utter simplicity equals cleanest sound.

    Hi i have 2 x kicker L7 subs, i was looking to fit another amp for my component speakers, i dont really want to use my existing amp and connect another one to that because that amp is connected to my stereo lineout where is says subwoofer, i have 2 more places for phono leads at the back of the stereo and one say front speakers and one says rear, i am guessing the second amp connects to those but i am not sure how the connections must go.

    I have a amp question. Is it ok to run interior speakers with a class d amp? I've heard from people that the mids and highs amp should be class ab....just wondering. Thank you

    • @Lesscoelectronics
      @Lesscoelectronics  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andrew Oliver The major advantage of a class D amplifier is that it can be more efficient than analog amplifiers, with less power dissipated as heat in the active device. Typically class d amps are designed for high wattage grunt force and lack full range amps features, If that class d amp you have offers all the features (like a high pass filter you would most likely need) I say go for it.

    • @andrewoliver9686
      @andrewoliver9686 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has a high and low pass filter, but the downside is it only goes up to 500hz. Its an Eclipse XA4200 by the way

    Im running 4 gauge power wire. I want to run my negative to my battery terminal, do i need it to be 4 gauge as well or can it be 8?

    • @Lesscoelectronics
      @Lesscoelectronics  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First tell me, what is the reason of going to the batteries negative terminal? Is it nearby or are you just doing overkill wiring? Typically the shorter the ground the better, and whatever is on the + side needs to be duplicated on the - side, so say you have 4ga on the + and 8ga on the - you essentially have an 8ga amp kit. I hope that made sense..

    • @Lesscoelectronics
      @Lesscoelectronics  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      chachee15 if you have 4 on one side and 8 on the other, the entire kit can only be as efficient as the smaller 8 ga wire, always use the same size wire or you risk degrading the entire thing unnecessarily

    I have a question if i use a digital top post do i still need to use the fuse holder?

    • @michaelpalmisano6788
      @michaelpalmisano6788 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daniel Mejia yes. The fuse is there to protect the wires and the components the wires connected to in the case of a short . In the event your wire gets to hot or shorts out the fuse will break stopping the current flow to the components . Always always always use fuses. The top post terminals he's showing in this video are just other options you have to the distribution blocks. Basically all those top terminals are are distribution blocks , nothing more nothing less.

    Great video and Thx for the input! I'm actually about to install my system within the next 1-2days and Just had a couple questions... For one I'll be running two amps, one RF type x2.c which is a 200w 2channel which will be going to my rf T2 components in the front doors and that's it, and I also have an RF 1501bd mono amp pushing 1500rms @2.. So I want to run 0gau to the mono, how would you suggest running my power wire/s? Would I just run 0ga all the way down to the mono and splice in a 4ga wire to the 2channel? I have all kinds of dist. blocks and Tblocks that I can use also... And if I'm able to do that, once I splice the power wire, would I then need a Anl 150 fuse for the mono and a smaller fuse for the 2channel? Also how do you suggest running my remote wires through my system? Sry for all the question but I'm just kinda stuck, been hearing 17636862 things and not sure what's right, and I'd love the PDf you have - se77en221@gmail.com. Thx! Much Appreciated

    This was incredibly helpful. But I still need help. Soooo, I am gutting and remodeling a 32 foot 1988 RV into a mobile tailgating party lounge here in Arizona. I was going to put in two amps 800 and 550watts for speaker and the subs, respectively. Now I am thinking I need the 800 for the subs, is this right? I am putting in 4-6 10 inch subs (Cervin Vega and JBL) . Definitely going with Fosgate amps now that you described them here. How many speakers can I put in this thing? 8? 12? I have no clue on how to achieve the best sound. Can you help me in the design process? Some speaker are going up high where the cabiinets use to be. Others are going down low in the built in seat (fronts), the subs are also going in below the seats

    Hello, I learned a lot of things in this video. I just had one question, can I put two capacitors?, one for each amp. I was thinking of putting a power distribution block with ANL fuses for powering up my 2 amps, starting with a 0 gauge wire and then distributing it in 2 of 4 gauge wires. My 2 ANL fuses, one will be 50 AMP and one will be a 25 AMP, because my 4 channel amp has a 50 amp fuse and my 2 channel uses a 25 amp fuse. So is it okay to power distribute each amp with its own capacitor. And as you said, I will also ground each amp alone in separate places and to far from each other by at least 1-2 feet.

    I'm redoing my system with more power than before and I'm confused on a couple things..
    first of all I'm going to be running 2 amps, 1 for my subs and 1 for my doors and sides (2 door truck). I bought a capacitor and a dist. block, not sure if it would be redundant to use both.. All the plans I see say to run one amp straight from the dist. block. and only use the cap on the more power-hungry one. why not run power to both amps from the capacitor?.. Also, my amp is a class d mono and I'm going to be running two dual coil 12"s. Is that dumb or what? would I just split it straight off the amp then use one pos and neg from each coil? not sure the proper wiring.. I want it to slap to its full potential..
    the gear:
    TS-W311D4 (2)
    GM-8601
    2 farad boss cap
    6 port dist block (2 1-0ga, 2 4ga, 2 8ga, gnd)
    Any help is appreciated!

    anl fuses are made up to about 650 amps
    in my system i use 300 amp anls
    if u got the wireing that matches a 300 amp fuse go ahead and use it under the hood or at ur 2nd battery to protect ur wire
    if ur amp hss no input fuse figure out what fuse is rated at about that level you will need
    in my case i got 0gauge OFC from front to back battery. Fuses are 12 inches from the front battery AND 12 inches from the back battery and for that gauge wire 300 amps is just the right size
    and in the back i fused the lines to my amps
    my 2x1000wattrms sub amp(200 amps)
    and my four channel(60amps)

    I could be totally wrong but basically when you're hooking up your power wire to your battery the reason they want your connection very close to your fuse part is because it becomes loose you don't have a hot 12 volt wire thing going around you know flopping around hitting something grounding out so whenever you put your fuse holders or fuse holder near your battery make sure that you tie your wires up so if they do come loose they don't ground out on anything so zip tied to whatever but just make sure that if it come loose it won't ground out cuz then you got a hot wire then through your whole vehicle catching stuff on fire and it doesn't take but just a split second and your s*** is on fire. Just because you got a fuse on your amp doesn't mean you don't don't need one at the battery you need them at both places cuz that the one at the battery protects the wire and like you said fuse distribution blocks a must if you got a distribution block and you have four things coming off of it and they're all different sizes you need to have a fuse for every one of your components coming off of it just cuz you have a fuse at the battery that mean you don't have to have independent fuses on each item at the back you have to fuse each one of those independently also he probably said all that I was trying to reiterate and help but the great video thank you
