When Lou described the engineering hull and nacelles as a sled, something clicked and I remembered how I'd read another fan's description of the Vulcan Shuttle (ST:TMP) as a "Faster-Than-Light (FTL) sled" carrying a conventionally-driven crew compartment. That concept is continued and developed in the form of USS Cerritos. Regards, Kev
Graphic artist here. What it look like what happened with the decals is that there is a keyline (black outline) to the letters. How you make these in a vector art app is to give the lettering several outlines of differing thicknesses. You layer them so that the widest is at the bottom and the others are stacked in size order. What it looks like is that the graphic artist who produced the decals has accidently sent the black layer to the bottom of the stack so that the largest, base white outline covers it. Then all you have is a solid mass of white surrounding the usual edges of the letters, giving them that 'blobby' look.
@@owenrichards1418 there's no black layer. What it looks like to me is that the actual letters and numbers have an outline that they shouldn't and when they scaled them down, the outline didn't scale to fit, so it filled in the space between the letter and the proper pinstripe that surrounds the letter
Next time, perhaps put the base stand under the lower portion, which may make the wire harness a bit cramped. Maybe on the next one, NCC Escondido! Great build, yet again
A really nice result Lou 👍. Particularly so for a first crack at a new kit. The warp engines look particularly good. It is indeed odd that the registry is behind the bridge - it means that the front bridge light has nothing to highlight 🤔. I know what you mean about larger scales - they are easier to work on and light but they take up so much space! After watching Star Trek TMP (yet again!) I have an inclination to build a "Refit" but the 350 is too big and is notorious for issues and the 1000 is too small to light properly. The 537 would be an ideal scale but that kit is over 40 years old and has countless problems of its own. I feel that the modelling community deserves a completely new, high quality and accurate"Refit" in 537 scale after all this time. It must be at least as popular as the Cerritos.
Fantastic work! This definitely looks like a very tricky model to light with what little space you have to work with. But lighting up those saucer rim windows feels like a must to me, and I don't think I'd be satisfied with just painting them on.
Lou + this is turning out nicely keep up the great work Lou how good is Bojangles restaurant they are coming to my state New Jersey I here the ice tea is great 👍😊😊
Great build Lou! And I agree, we need bigger models from Round2. They should quit putting out new 1:1400 scale ships and make them 1:1000. At that size they are also still managable for home display for most people.
It looks great, Lou! Looking forward to the later version(s) you build. For those red and green marker lights on the saucer, would it be possible to drill them out and replace them at the end with Micro Kristal Klear and then paint transparent red and green once dried?
Love to see this build of yours, as I am patiently waiting for my own kit to arrive. Are you planning to offer a masking kit for it for the aztecing by any chance? Since you seem to have the pennants as masking already, this sounds like the proper next step.
I'm mulling the idea of offering two sets. One that is masking for the stripes and light blocking and another that is just a texture pattern set. putting them all together might make the price impractical
Looks great! Another worthy addition to your growing fleet! I hear that the last episode of Lower Decks shows the Discovery is now set in an alternative universe. Opinions?
No, that's not what they show at all. There's a scene where they show some Klingons regressing to an earlier evolutionary state, and it's the design they used in Discovery, which really cements Discovery as Canon.
The windows are on the bottom I am sure some weird way they are up if your inside. Like the. Gravity swaps halfway in the saucers. So they are walking upside down but still feel like b their standing up. Like people in the USA to people in Australia. Which way is really truely up in space Science fiction theory
Hey Lou , are you maybe interested in a Star Fleet, X BOMBER? . I have scratch built a pretty good replica ( video on you tube ) I also have access to scanner and 3d printer . so any size available. Anybody interested ? It will be a must for any Sci fi collector. Please let me know and I will obviously get one too you .
Lou you are a master class at model making, that is for sure. But you still stink at, haveing what you're talking about in camera view. LOL, but I don't watch all of your videos and like them for your camera work.
A very nice build Lou, and very informative as always. Happy Holidays.

Looks great Lou, you did an excellent job on this.
Happy Holidays Lou, thanks for the past year of great build videos.

something to consider. but that's the way the ship is made
I’m a Vacaville resident, had no idea there was a starship named after it! Very cool
Looking great Lou!

for the edge lighting take a page from the constitution just put a few symmetry windows on all sides
I wonder if the saucer nav lights could be done with fiber optics?
I agree, a larger model would be good to get the missing details.
@@AirwolfCrazy fiber optic is my first thought as well. Something for the list on the version 2
Perhaps with the expanded decal sheet, you'll be able to have the necessary registry letters to make the tastiest ship in the fleet, the USS Tostitos.
@@johndillon8051 i heard there was a USS Sunnydale, but it disappeared into a hell mouth.
Lou is on a California roll.
yum.
For the next one, you might want to have a V shaped mount going from the base to the bottom of each nacelle
It’s all good
Great Job Lou! I wonder if you could make masks to mimic the episode where the Cerritos has to remove all the hull plating?

@slighter no. I don't believe it was consistent anyway. If that's what you want, get the wallpaper decals.

I can't wiat for people to kitbash this model for various versions seen in series finale.
