What about the overboost power that Ford never officially spoke about until about 2016 when the SPRINT was released with something like 370KW on overboost? The standard XR6T always had the overboost available for about 12 SEC in each gear at the right temp, so was always SIGNIFICANTLY more powerful than the V8. Even the XR6 SPRINT had a higher NM rating than the XR8 SPRINT. You've gotta have the ZF Auto to get the best out of the XR6T motor. I've owned both and as much as the manual is rare in modern cars, the ZF is a far superior match to the Barra on boost.
Agreed, I have owned many XR8s and 1 x XR6 Turbo and as I keep my vehicles relatively stock bar intake and exhaust, I'd take the XR8 any day as I'm chasing a nice looking and sounding cruiser.. Sure the turbo kicks its ass but when doing the day to day drive to work etc, there is something special about the 8, it has character that the 6T is missing, to me driving the Turbo 6 feels just like I'm driving an everyday falcon until I plant my foot.. While day to day driving in my XR8s feels special everytime.. that bulge, that throaty idle and V8 growl while cruising around never ever gets old, I'm nearly 40 and have been driving Falcon V8s since the day they would insure me in one.... so about 16 years

The 19" wheels you showed for the XR8 (and said were 18" wheels) were a part of the Luxury Pack available as an option on both the XR6 Turbo and the XR8. 2. That XR8 does not have a stock exhaust.
The 5.4s are not a bad engine by any stretch, very underated considering it was basically only fords second generation of the modulars after the previous Boss 260. All manual xr6t manuals have a lauch assist, put it in any gear (including reverse) with the clutch in and stomp the acceleration pedal and it will sit at 3500 rpm
6:34 Affordable power? Nah, not here in Australia. It's like 16k if you get a tuner shop to stick on an aftermarket turbo for a couple hundred KW of extra power. 😆
Just saw this video after watching you do 5.2secs in the Hyundai I30N. When the XR6T and XR8 were made they would have laughed at you that a bunch of years later a stock FWd Hyundai would bus gap these two icons. Strange times indeed.
@@RossReviewsau I think it’s also worth commenting on the tyres (brand, width and wear) on the more powerful FWD and RWD cars you review as they play such a big part in how they achieve their 0-100.
Neither have aged well and look very dated. Especially interior. That said, The turbo is a better all round performer with much sharper acceleration, better handling and good fuel economy for a big car. 12 second car in the auto all day.
I have no idea why would any one want so much power in a Ute? There is no way Ute can handle as good as sedan. I think you should have used Automatics for the test.
F6 typhoon better faster than BA BF FPV GT F6 FG better faster than BOSS 335 XR6 Turbo better faster than XR8 Sprint 6 better faster than Sprint8 HSV needs massive 6.2 SC V8 to beat the Turbo Falcons. I own an FG XR6 Turbo 2010.They are the pick of the Ford group. The smaller Garrett 3576R Turbo spools 30% faster than bigger Garrett 3582R Turbo minimising turbo lag giving it better accelaration of the mark and coming out of corners.
But the 3576 cant be pushed as hard when tuning. The 30% spool becomes irrelevant when tuning anyway because the 30% is from the turbo and the low boost pressure. You can only get up to 300rwkw on 98 whereas something like an FGX Xr8 starts at about 310rwkw and goes to 400kw with just a tune alone on pump 98 still.
@@lukesm5747 3576 will do 320 at the wheels which is 416 kw at the engine. You don't need massive power for the car to be quick.it has to put the power quickly with low psi boost at lower revs. The SC FGX needs a bigger supercharger pulley to extract big power which more revs are needed with a bigger pulley costing bigger dollars
@@zorankarabeleski392 3576 will only reach 320rwkw on e85 and at that point the turbo will be highly strung at which it wont last long. That is the same power the stock FGX Xr8s make from factory. Getting a Sc miami into the 400rwkw range is far cheaper than a barra and just as reliable.
if stock pretty cheap to maintain.. modified can become more expensive but still in general terms reasonably cheap.. if you compare them to new cars or euro cars..

i would still take the fg xr6 turbo it justs has better power than the fg xr8 falcon but both cars are still nice cars . merry christmas ross. good review
Totally agree both are amazing but the power delivery in the turbo 6 is just that much better.. merry christmas to you to Darren!
All manual xr6t manuals have a lauch assist, put it in any gear (including reverse) with the clutch in and stomp the acceleration pedal and it will sit at 3500 rpm
F#$k did i mention its only in manual
Thanks for sharing
should be both sedans, weights differences n handling is so much different.
not much of a weight difference actually.. and i mentioned about handling
The XR8 sounds much better but I'd take the blown six...also tuning potential much better with the XR6
so much more potential in the Turbo 6
Yeah but wouldn’t you rather a maloo for a v8 anyway and an xr6t for big power
I've got fg 290 with cams, exhaust, intake and tune. It's definitely no slug
When you do that of course you’ll open them up! Sounds mint
Strange times indeed.
its true.. even my F6 cant do 0-100 in 5.1 seconds... (yet) lol but i would take the i30N on the freeway... modern cars are insanely quick
@@RossReviewsau I think it’s also worth commenting on the tyres (brand, width and wear) on the more powerful FWD and RWD cars you review as they play such a big part in how they achieve their 0-100.
@@MrTroytroy that is a good point man..
I'd chose the turbo engine and the sedan but would get the diff bushes replaced with powerflex brushes ..
if you had the ute no need for diff bushes ;)
should do FG X XR8 vs FG X XR6 turbo/ FG X XR6 Sprint
i think that might be happening for 2021
Just rewatched this and noticed your recent G6e turbo smoked both these two 🧐 strange
ZF vs manual 😅 that’s why
Neither have aged well and look very dated. Especially interior. That said, The turbo is a better all round performer with much sharper acceleration, better handling and good fuel economy for a big car. 12 second car in the auto all day.
i reckon they look good haha.. each to their own tho n yeh turbo is just the better performance car
Hey mate. Would go for the v8. Prefer the raw sound
hard to beat the noise of a V8
Xr8 any day of the week for me. Just has more balls to me
fair call still gotta love a V8
Id take xr6 turbo over the v8 i live there v8's but the barras are sick
up the BARRA!
Xr6T all the way for power still like the rumble of a v8 though
totally agree
I'd pick the Barra for sure. If I was getting a V8 I'd go for a LS3
Good call I reckon
turbo ute, good choice!
love a good ute
I have no idea why would any one want so much power in a Ute? There is no way Ute can handle as good as sedan. I think you should have used Automatics for the test.
I’ve had both & I prefer XR8 something about a V8
You might have probably heard... "Once a V8 driver, Always a V8 driver."
fair call m8.. gotta love a V8 i hope one day to have both haha
Is the clutch on the XR8 heavy?
no very easy
Xr6 is the go I got one
up the barra
Turbo sedan! I might be abit biased though 🤔
me too :p
Why would you not put a XR8 bonnet on the XR6 ? I think they look awesome to me. 👌
they "can" look good but idk just feels wrong to me lol
F6 typhoon better faster than BA BF FPV GT
F6 FG better faster than BOSS 335
XR6 Turbo better faster than XR8
Sprint 6 better faster than Sprint8
HSV needs massive 6.2 SC V8 to beat the Turbo Falcons.
@@lukesm5747
3576 will do 320 at the wheels which is 416 kw at the engine.
I own two Barra’s both utes. So I’d have to say Barra Ute
up the barra!
I would take the xr6 turbo Ute
100%
I wish barras were available in the states...
if you send me cash ill send you Barra motors.
they can be imported starting to see it happen more often
Cheers bro a sedan is pratical but dont make ya money ute can. Thanx ross
V8 sounds better imo. I would love to get a ute in canada new but noooo that would never happen. So I'm gonna try for a 8v manual mustang
Best option nowadays it seems
The turbo sounds way better but only put 2 people in ...not very useful
yup 100% the struggles of a ute
high maintenance cost for this car ?
if stock pretty cheap to maintain.. modified can become more expensive but still in general terms reasonably cheap.. if you compare them to new cars or euro cars..
@@RossReviewsau Also, does the falcon xr6 all have the turbo ?
@@brucezhan208 no there are Naturally aspirated ones.. you have XR6, XR6Turbo, XR8
i hope you mom can do some more reviews and travel to oz when covid is over , nothing like a lady driving a stickshift
The xr6 turbo has factory launch control also
really? i thought was on FPV
@@RossReviewsau no all manual fg turbo have it
Why use a ute ? its probably like 300kg's lighter just from the tray, motor probably adds another 20+ in savings.......
because small youtuber lol so gotta get what im given
