Damn! You and Hobie-Wan Kenobi’s channel inspired me to get a Shimano Aldebaran BFS! Have been having a BLAST with it paired with an ultra-light and a light St. Croix (spinning) rod. Best success is my fishing smallmouth streams where in one 5-hour outing I landed 86 smallmouth and on another 5-hour outing I landed 96 smallmouth Bass! I am not a true BFS guy as my go-to lures are a things like a 1/4 oz. Panther Martin Fly Spinner (6 Grams) or a Z-Man tube with a 1/10 oz. or 1/6 oz. Z-Man EZ Keeper Hook and 4# Berkley Nano-Fil w/ 6# flouralcarbon leader.
I fish a lot and seem to always choose this darn Shimano Aldebaran BFS. I fish via a bassboat with at least five rods rigged up. If the weeds will let me fish, I will often grab that darn reel. All my reels are Shimano. This and my Shimano Metanium DC are my favorites.
Be well and keep up the Excellent videos.

What line and how much capacity do you get on the aldebaran bfs?

    • @muskietime
      @muskietime 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@jamesh7469 I load about 100’ of White 4# Berkley Nano-fil and then 6’-12’ of 6# flouralcarbon on the BFS spool. I use the FG knot (with 25 twists) for the connection. That way I can make a 110yd. spool go a long way. My casts are probably 80’. While I am more accurate with spinning gear and I have found that “skipping” a lure oftentimes “excites” fish to bite, I get more casts per hour with a baitcaster. The act of catching the line with your index finger, opening the bail, casting and then manually closing the bail is slower than with a baitcaster.
      Hope this answers your question.
      Be well.

@@THEREELTEST Ha, ha. YOU are the Boss. Try In-line Spinners (Panther Martins, Joe’s Flies Elite Series (1/4 oz)) and cover water (horizontal and vertically) fast. Fish larger streams and find the holes and slots (deeper narrow channels) that are in stream runs. Holes hold the most fish. Big rocks in the holes hold the largest fish. Fish the rocks with slower presentations like you are excellent with. My go-to lures are Ned Rigs, Tubes and 3” Fat Senkos (Texas Rigged), often with a 3/32 nail weight in the rear section for greater depth. Senkos, Texas Rigged, are outstanding in areas where you are getting hung up.
Mule Jigs would be PERFECT in the slower, rocky waters of streams.
Only other thought/reminder, which I do not always do:
Ned Rigs are best fished slow with the jig being dragged, not lifted much per Ned Kehde (Ned Rig namesake).
Lastly, best advice for anyone: Use White Line and be a Line Watcher. Close to 30% of my fish caught are because I see the line “twitch” or “move”. Fish don’t have hands. They feel with their mouth. If the line moves, they are “feeling” the lure. Set Da Hook!
Be well and keep up the outstanding, positive vibe videos. You Sir, are a STAR!

I think the tatula sv is more of a close quarters /tight environment reel. Where you can only do hard short cast and don't want to blow that spool.
The coastal sv look to be tuned to cast much farther than the tatula sv. Maybe it's due to the CRBB bearing on the spool 😁.

The aldebaran is the king of the lightweights, in my experience. Sure, you might find a reel or two here and there that might cast “such and such bait” a little better but...it probably won’t be as ergonomically nice. My oldest alde has been through years of hard work and it feels like it only gets better with time.

@@chaoyang9080 you know your vanford cost 4 times some of the budget bfs combos out there. I am with you on spinning reels being versatile, but it will not hurt if you try something new. Like I said it just boils down to your preference and curiosity. although I find it much easier and accurate casting with a bfs combo than with an ultralight spinning reel combo. especially when you are working with artificial lures throwing, jerking popping and cranking it up for their action. I kinda being slowed down using the spinning reel as you would be opening the bail out for each cast.

FILL UP YOUR SPOOL GUYS! There is physics involved; it is misinformation to not fill your spool up while expecting maximum performance, further casting distances and accuracy.
A full spool not only has a effect on distance and accuracy but also your gear ratio.
When casting with a "full spool" the distance gains come from more line coming off the wider diameter spool; that's why BFS spools have a wider circumference. The shallow aspect of the spool [line capacity] and porting aids in lowering the rotational mass and friction (lessened by line contact at the spool) which has an effect on lure weight options to be cast; in the context of BFS allowing for small lures to be cast further and more accurately.
Gear ratio is effected by line capacity due to the fact that it takes more turns of the spool to take up more line; there is a calculus involved in this part of the development of reels. Example: Changing the tire diameter on your car will affect the speedometer. [Speedometer calibration is done by tire size]
Shimano, Diawa, KastKing etc. exhaust alot of resources in Research And Development of their products and in my opinion I think it's in our best interest to approach modifications and expectations of performance, durability and functionality from the same perspective(s) as they do. Let's follow the science. (No pun intended)
I don't work in the fishing industry, I'm a subscriber and I like what you have going on. ✌🏾
