So much so, it's been covered extensively (and unselfconsciously, I might add) by many rock bands, although many aren't particularly well-known: The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, The Mission, Tank, Lawnmower Deth, Neal Morse, The Frames, KMFDM, Electric Six, Pretty Maids, Tigertailz, and Butcher Babies. Westlife covered the song live in 2003, and even performed the song alongside Donny Osmond. Pop Will Eat Itself sampled the record on their 1988 single "Def Con One". The song was also covered by Tigertailz on the 2010 live album "Bezerk: Live...Burnin' Fuel." The song was also covered by Mat Sinner on the solo album "Back to the Bullet 1990." My first concert was The Osmonds when I was 8 yrs old...I grew up in Vegas. Parents took me it was 1973 at Cesar's Palace. I admit had a huge crush on Donny when I was 8 yrs old. Had this album too.
I was there!! My parents took me & we only had two tickets so my mom accompanied me! While standing in line a man & his daughter walked up & asked if I’d trade tickets with him so me & his daughter could sit in front at the stage! Don’t know who it was but we got to go backstage & I got Donny’s autograph & gave him a kiss on the cheek. Funny - I remember thinking that Donny looked tired!
Love this song. That was Donny on the keyboard. Jay was the lead on this song (up front) along with Merrill. The 4 older ones are known as "one take Osmonds."
I seen them here when I was seven years old in Atlanta Fulton County Stadium I think it was July 15, 1972 my birthday was the 13th we had my party on that day of the concert. My mom and dad an older brother went with me and several of my friends and my brothers friends it was great memories but sadly everyone has passed as far as my dad mom and brother since then but I will always have the memories and two other people that went with us to the concert one was my friend and one was my older brothers friend I have them as friends on Facebook till this day.
This was about ecology and way ahead of its time. The Osmonds are legends and Donny was on the keyboard Jay took the verses with Merrill then taking over. They were regulars on The Andy Willams when much younger than this where they had to learn routines every week, learnt how to play instruments in a week for the Andy Williams show the following week's episode learnt to ice skate so by the time they left were ready for another gear change recorded one bad apple and pop stardom took of, Donny made solo songs concerts with his brothers and later recorded with sister Marie and on 1974 they had their own variety show The Donny and Marie Show where they did sketches, musical numbers with various guest stars and at the start of the show would do a little routine on the ice after they sang their opening number so this family worked since they were kids. Walt Disney heard Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay were doing barber shop quartet duels with one of his groups and from their history was made.
Eric. Agree. Listening with an open mind is how it should be done!! I've heard that their talent was admired by Paul McCartney, Ozzie Osborne, Led Zeppelin, Def Leppard, The Queen!!!!! All Brits, right? So yeah, glad that you Brits DID judge them for their talent. The ongoing love from their fans worldwide all these years later shows you that they weren't held back by TOO many, ya know?!! I'm an American, and the Osmond Brothers are music to my ears!!!!! (Get it)??????? 😂😂😂 Eric, please let your father know that he can use my joke here. (Heard that he is a big joker).
Thanks Jamel, that was HILARIOUS !!!! As much as the Osmond's may have wanted to be "rockers", they will always be known for their teenie bop songs like Go Away Little Girl, One Bad Apple, and Puppy Love.
@@bvbatcu1650 Sales of the song were prohibited in South Africa. Government censors were convinced the word 'horses' was referring to heroin! And I also now see that you did a Kate Bush video & she is my absolute 80s idol!!! Mr. jamal I salute you for your excellent taste in music sir!! I am subbed!!
You're reaction tickled me to no end. I haven't seen a more genuine, spontaneous reaction to this song than yours, and, for that, I thank you very sweetly. I always likened Donny's keyboard to a Native American war cry rather than a neighing horse.
The MGM singles...."Crazy Horses" and "Hold Her Tight" were released to widen their demographic for an older audience...trying to get away from their "preteen/teenie bopper" image. The Osmonds projects utilized some of the best recording studios and session musicians.
And unfortunately for them, they did back up singing and dancing for skits on Donny and Marie show. No one would take them seriously after that. They were so under rated because the whole family was extremely talented. Too bad the Osmonds (original four or even after Donny joined) too bad they couldn't move forward.
The Osmonds were very underrated, and never really given a chance to show what they could do. Talented bunch of guys! So much more talented than the Jackson 5 that it's unreal.
That was fun watching you watch that. This is the first time I saw that video…never knew the Osmonds did that. I’m going to go watch the video because I’m impressed.
The one singing is not Donny but Merrill - he was the lead singer. This is the most listened to song of the Osmonds ever. Its about air pollution and how we are using up our resources.
I was so happy to see that you reacted to this one. The “Brothers” were before my time. I was a “Donny & Marie” era. I watched their variety show every week. My favorite part was “I’m a Little Bit Country, and I’m a Little Bit Rock & Roll”. But I wasn’t the kind of fan who actually bought any of their albums, singles, etc. But at the time, they hadn’t put out any new music…Maybe Marie did a few in country music. Anyway, I didn’t really know much about them, except what everyone else knew…there were many children and the family were very devoted to their religion and they weren’t ashamed to say that. The thing I remember the most about the family is they were considered to be too “goodie goodie…anyone, my age at the time (mid-teens), could never admit to being a fan. If you liked them, then you weren’t “cool”. And they (brothers and D & M) had been through their peak anyway. I’m trying to get to my point 🤣. I had never heard of “Wild Horses”. I first heard it & watched them perform it live while on tour. I was so surprised. It wasn’t a song that I was expecting to hear them sing. I thought they were just a “One Bad Apple” kind of singers. But the BEST PART OF THE ENTIRE performance is the choreography!! I still find it funny as hell to see the brother out front doing a shortened version of The Chicken Dance!!! That’s why I was so excited to see your reaction. I knew you would love that part also. Thank you for making me giggle like a school girl (what exactly is the meaning of giggle like a schoolgirl? 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️

And now the opening act for Black Sabbath... THE OSMONDS!!!!
Ozzy had this as one of his faves. I can see it as a possibility.
It's about industrial pollution. The Osmonds song many rock fans secretly love.
No it's about car pollution.
Pollution caused by cars primarily!
What a shame that they weren't given the credit that they were due!!!! They DESERVED that!!! ALL the MANY instruments that EACH of them played, the precise, tight choreography, the overall musicality and writing their own music. They were robbed, BUT they still have legions of fans worldwide who STILL love them, all these years later. Maybe that was a problem..... Their versatility and massive talents were threatening to others???
I loved these guys in the 70's...their concerts were awesome!
You should do 'Yo-Yo' when they were on the Flip Wilson Show
Because who Doesn't love Flip as Geraldine??! ❤
Not to mention all his other hysterically funny comedy!
There is a video of Donnie showing how he can still do all the moves to Yo-Yo in his 50s. It's pretty fun to watch too. I'll search and see if I can find you a link.

Had this song on the B side of a 45 when i was 10, till this day it rings in my head. Pure talent
Donny Osmond was my first love. That whole family was so talented, and good people. You need to check out more of their stuff. They had the looks, the moves, and the jumpsuits!
Donny and Michael were friends. They bonded over being child icons and not being able to grow up as “normal “ kids.
Jamel, you should check out the Cowsills! They were dope! They were the inspiration for the tv show The Partridge Family. Check out Hair, Indian Lake, The Rain, the Park & other things.
Definitely react to Hair, it's a crazy video!
They did the love American style theme song also.If you have Amazon prime watch the doc about them they had a bad up bringing the Father was an asshole.
They also did a milk commercial and the theme song to the TV show Love American style which is where the tv show Happy Days spun off of.
Poor Barry Cowsill died during Catrina. He drowned. I was his biggest fan back in the 60's...
The Osmond brothers did a lot of covers, so this was a really good example of them writing their own.
I love the Osmonds! My bedroom was wallpapered with them! And this was their best song !!
You got me LMAO 😂 !!! I'm 55 so I was raised on the Osmond family. Down by the Lazy River is awesome... Donnie was on keyboards. The sound was the horses neighing.
Love Me For A Reason, That's My Girl, Down by the Lazy River! I loved Are You Up There.
My room was wall to wall Osmond Posters. You couldn’t even see the paint on the walls, which of course was purple, Donny’s favorite color!
Unbelievable talent!!! Enjoyed them back in the day and enjoy them now!!!
The Osmond Brothers were the first boy band out there ... I have been an Osmond fan since 1971... the song crazy horses is about air pollution ... the one that you say is Donny is actually Merrill, Donny is on keyboards ... the lead singer is Jay in this particular song but Jay is normally on drums and a very good drummer for sure ... that was so long ago but some very good memories!
Not true The Jackson 5 had hits before they did right they was out 1st But not one the Jackson 5 Level
Even though the Osmonds were on television first because of Andy Williams show The J5 had the first hit record of 69 going into the 70's
The Bee Gees were singing in the early '60s or before! They've been singing since before they were teenagers!
Crazy Horses is about cars and how they pollute the environment. The ONE TAKE OSMONDS were so well rehearsed that one take was all that was needed.
This is one of my favorite songs by them. I actually got to see them in concert a few years ago. They are awesome in person.
who else used to watch the young Osmonds on
Andy Williams??? Huh talk about perfect harmonies...I know you guys are out there!!!!
Started back on the Andy Williams show back in the seventies. And they sing at Disneyland and Walt Disney hired them to do some street singing
Grew up listening to the Osmonds. Watch there show every week✌💖
And their cartoon every Saturday morning too!
@@KandKs_GG Thanks for reminding me about the cartoon. I watch that too 😎
Yep and the Jackson 5 one
@@helen8755 Jimmy... that One Bad Apple 🤣🤣
@@KandKs_GG Ur right One Bad Apple!
I saw them in Lexington, Ky. at the Rupp Arena. I think it was in 1977. I was 15 at the time. I was so excited to get to see them in concert! Thank you for the blast from the past!
Jamal check out the Osmond's song "Yo-Yo" You'll be out of your seat again for this one too!😄Happy times!
Eric, like someone else said... So glad to know that some Osmonds are actually reading some of these comments so that they know how much they're STILL loved!!! I bet that you ARE proud of your Dad!!!! What's not to love????? Though I loved all of them, Jay was my favorite. His HUGE, happy smile, energy, and enthusiasm were plenty to be impressed by, but I just heard his drum solo on I've Got the Music in Me again....... And my mind is blown ---- again!! Please thank your Dad and the other Osmonds for SO many happy and exciting memories of their concerts in Charlotte, Atlanta and Newport News. My sister and I plan to see your Dad's musical when it comes to the US!!!!!! The Osmonds ALWAYS make people happy!! WHAT a legacy!!!!!!
Wow, first time I've heard this song. I didn't know the Osmonds rocked like this!
My first concert was The Osmonds when I was 8 yrs old...I grew up in Vegas.
@@debramoore7513 small world.

Always loved those Kustom amps with the naugahyde tuck and roll coverings. My old bass player had one back in the late 60's.
The Osmonds were among the most talented groups of that time! The only thing that held them back was that their last name was Osmond!
Didn't hold them back in the UK. We used to mob them like they were The Beatles!
I've never heard anyone say it quite like that... well said. I hear you, thanks!
@@mst1740 lol haha
Eric.
That singer you thought was Donny was Merrill, who was actually the lead singer of the band.
Merrill and Jay, he probably thought Jay was Donny.
Donny on keyboard!
And, Merrill, believe it or not, was deaf.
@@platterjockey Merrill was not deaf, their two OLDER brothers, not in the band are deaf. One of the brothers has a deaf son, I believe.
I just Wikipedia that song and the reason Donny wasn't singing is because he was going through puberty haha.
They were my first concert in 1972.
When your only knowledge of the Osmonds is "One Bad Apple," this song comes as quite a shock. But I enjoyed it.
I can't recall ever hearing Crazy Horses before. They must hot have put that into the rotation by us; too radical.
Right!
@@bvbatcu1650 Sales of the song were prohibited in South Africa. Government censors were convinced the word 'horses' was referring to heroin!
The song was also banned in France when authorities believed the lyric “smoking up the sky” was about drugs. The song hit #14 on the pop charts here in the States.
They do an awesome version of "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother"

HaHa! I've just found your Crazy Horses reaction video & after hearing it I was prepared to post a comment to educate you about the Osmonds, but as I read many of the comments here I am surprised & thrilled to see I am not the only Osmonds super-fan on here! All I will add is that the song is about pollution. I didn't read all of the comments, so if someone already mentioned that I apologize for re-stating that. BTW, I have been watching ur channel a lot because I'm a Pentaholic, but when I saw this I was tickled to see you posting it!
Yo-Yo and Down By the Lazy River are also great songs! Lots of funky/crazy outfits, and high energy synchronized dancing!
When Jamel opens a video with “maniacal cackling” like the Wicked Witch of the West, you just KNOW it’s going to be entertaining 😂😂😂
This is a hard riff for an Osmond song and still they manage to dance to it. Donny's on the keyboard.
From England LOL loved your reaction
I'm 60 yrs old they were my idols
Ditto from Sydney, Australia.
Im 62 this song is great I don't remember this song
Cra Cra🐴🐴🐴😂....they were the first concert I went to in 1971 at the Spectrum at 11 yrs old!!!! Long live The Osmonds!!
I remember when that song came out, and it still sounds cool....
This is why I love your channel. I was not expecting that. Grew up watching the Osmonds but don,t remember this. Thanks
Yay, you are finally reacting to The Osmonds! You have made my day!!
Had the pleasure of seeing them in concert twice when I was very little (about eight.) They were AMAZING live. Incredibly talented.
How have I never saw this??🤪🎸🎸🎸🎸 This is like their heaviest song I've ever heard 🤩‼️
Another one of their heavy songs is called "Hold Her Tight". I actually prefer it to this song.
Donny was the guy dancing behind Weird Al in his White and Nerdy video.
Donny played the keyboard/synthesizer. The Crazy Horses refer to the horsepower of vehicles.
The Osmonds were very underrated, and never really given a chance to show what they could do. Talented bunch of guys! So much more talented than the Jackson 5 that it's unreal.
The Jackson 5 was awesome as well
I thought that keyboard sound at the beginning was like a horse's whinny. It suits the theme of the song, mechanical horses, mechanical horse sound.
Joe Elliot from Def Leppard loves this song
Wow!! Loved the Osmonds in the 70’s. Love Def Leppard. Big Queen fan now!!
Just makes sense!
what a great song. way beyond its time.
I don't think I have ever seen a reaction video on this song. Wild...
That was fun watching you watch that. This is the first time I saw that video…never knew the Osmonds did that. I’m going to go watch the video because I’m impressed.
I was so in love with Donny. And my name is Marie.
Same. I was mad when my parents wouldn't take a vacation to Utah so I could marry him LOL
Yep. I had to wear purple socks for a solid year lol
My mother's name was Marie.
@@stephcol23 I think that's why my favorite color is purple. And I like guys with dark eyes and hair.
The one singing is not Donny but Merrill - he was the lead singer. This is the most listened to song of the Osmonds ever. Its about air pollution and how we are using up our resources.
This was definitely their best song. I remember this. Awesome song. I believe it was Jay and Merrill on vocals.
Marie Osmands Paper Roses!!! This was on one of my first LP mixed compelations from either K-Tel or Ronco ...Totally dating myself!!!!
You're right Jamel, "That" dance move was the Funky Chicken. What can I say, it was the 70's.
