Drummer Mike Portnoy said this was the heaviest song he'd ever heard on the radio as a young boy. The boys were channelling Deep Purple or something with this one!
Merrill not being a vocalist for a classic hard rock band is such a missed opportunity and will forever be one of the greatest "what ifs" in music history
I was front row center at one of their concerts, in 2001. They LOVE when you headbang to this! It's one of the songs THEY WROTE!!🎸🎵 Jay choreographed it.
It was their parents who wouldn't allow too many harder edge tracks. One of the brothers was really into Zeppelin, but as I said, their parents said no...
Love, love the Osmonds. Had their pictures all over my walls in the 70’s. Crazy Horses is a song about air pollution. "Crazy Horses" represents automobiles - "horsepower" - that create pollution in the skies from the exhaust. This was written by Alan, Merrill, and Wayne Osmond. They were the oldest of the group, they were all concerned about the polluted world their children would inherit. Donny has a residency at Harrahs in Vegas. Going to see him this week. ☺️. Thank you for listening to their music. Such a talented and awesome family. ❤️
I saw Donny in Vegas last month....Awesome doesn't even begin to describe it!!!! LOVED how he took us from the beginning to the here and now....their entire career honoring Andy Williams, Disney, his siblings, his parents, and Michael Jackson. It is truly a must see show!!!! Merril retired in 2023.....Donny seems to be the only one left performing ❤
Can you imagine the music they would have crrated had they had freedom to do heavier songs!? I was a teenager and grew up on the Osmonds and this was definitely a favorite and influenced my evolution toward metal and harder rock!
“Down By The Lazy River “, “Hold Her Tight” , “Yo-Yo”, “One Bad Apple”, “The Girl I Love” and of course their cover of the Hollies “He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother”. Their harmonies were phenomenal and their choreography was awesome. If you want to see some of their choreography check out the Osmonds UK special where I first heard a section of “The Girl I Love”
The Plan was their concept album. The song The Last Days is heavier than this and still relevant with its message with what's going on in the world today
Donny Osmond was the guy dancing behind Weird Al Jankovic on White & Nerdy 😄 The Osmonds were from a Mormon family from Ogden, Utah. They were 9 siblings. The two oldest had hearing impairment. The 7 others all played music. Started out in the 60's as a barbershop quartet. Later younger brothers Donny and Jimmy joined. Both also had quite good solo careers. Their only sister Marie also had a solo career
We had the best music back in the 60's and 70's ! Check out the Jackson 5 too. Donny Osmond and Michael Jackson were great friends growing up. Donny and their sister Marie had a tv show too.
Each Osmond could play multiple instruments. You should look at some of their other video's. They are amazing dancers. They choreographed their own dances. They wrote a lot of their own music. Wayne Osmond, who played that amazing guitar solo in Crazy Horses, recently passed away. Their concerts were always sold out! Their music company held them back with their music. They wanted to do hard rock. They would have been amazing if their management given them more freedom.
I can't stop crying over his death. I saw Donny in Vegas this oast September (2024) and original clips from the beginning of their career to the here and now we're running on the screen behind him. It is truly a must see show in Vegas. I've been to a few of their concerts in the 70's and 80's.....never a bad concert. I saw them in Branson in 2011....the year before Wayne's first stroke 😢 I am not a fan of country music and they gave it a try in the early 80's, but I don't think it was as successful as their rock and roll career. All in all....I will always love the Osmonds 😊
I've loved the Osmonds since 1972 and seen them a few times and have tickets to see Donny in Cardiff, Wales in December. Great reactions. Love from Yorkshire, England 🇬🇧
You know, so many classic Rickers lived the Osmonds too. Sir Paul McCartney told the press to stop picking on the Osmonds. Paul gave Merrill Osmond one if his bass guitars. Robert Plant and Led Zeppeln invited the Osmonds to their show and had them onstage with them. They were truly multt talented. You should check out their 1970s live video. They never miss a beat and are always in sync with their choreography and vocals.
I was a massive Osmonds fan, but(!) Donny & Marie took the stage and the brothers as seen here melted away. D&M were all cheese, the real good stuff was the 5 brothers. So glad you enjoyed this.
This is the first record I bought back in the day (I was about eight at the time). It was the early 70's and I'd not heard anything like this before. 50 years later I still like it, even though I wasn't a fan of The Osmonds.
The Osmonds are really really impressive. Shame they had so much pushback and their image was ridiculed. In 2023, im not afraid to say I’m a fan and enjoy them a lot!
I went to go see the Osmonds here in Atlanta Georgia it was July 15, 1972 it was for my seventh birthday in Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. Two of the people that went with me then along with my parents and older brother are on my Facebook page today. I saw them another time a couple years later when I was about nine years old in the Omni in Atlanta. Definitely brings back memories but this one was definitely one of the best songs.
Donnie’s voice was changing during this time due to puberty, so he was on keyboards. Merrill had to takeover what Donnie use to sing, and you can hear how he struggled hitting the high notes that Donnie sang so easily. It still worked. This song is on an amazing album with no duds. Every song is outstanding. It has to be the most underrated album ever recorded.
One of the early environmental statement songs. Crazy Horses = automobiles. "What a show, there they go smoking up the sky, yeah. Crazy Horses all got riders and they're you and I".
I have been an Osmond fan for 50+ years. They can sing anything and it sounds good. You should check out their song called walking in the jungle. That is another good fun one.
If you notice Donny on keyboards was trying to replicate a horses whinny .. he would go up and down like that.. so talented!! Back in the day no fancy keyboards like today .. these guys were just ahead of their time in my opinion
It is a shame that these guys were held back and not given a chance to show what they could really do! Very talented bunch of guys, and so much better than the Jackson 5!
You’re absolutely correct.. The Record Producer’s seen how the girls when insane of Donny Osmond and then just saw $$$ one producer said “money in the bank” so they pushed Donny out in front making him America’s first teen idol
I have to say I laughed when you thought it was going to be about horses. It was about pollution caused by automobile horsepower. It was written by Alan, Wayne, and Merrill.
Donny got that unusual sound on his Yamaha YC-30 organ. He uses it with a portamento strip that, if you run your hand along it in a certain way it produces this unusual sound.
As a young kid in the early '70s, we used to live near the Osmond's California home. I remember that it was always fairly quiet around the exterior of house as they were probably out on tour quite a bit during those days. I also seem to recall that Donny's keyboard intro was simulating a horse's neigh, but I'm not sure how accurate that description is.
They were very talented and because they were one family they worked together very cohesively plus they were Mormon, so drugs and alcohol never watered down their talent
I haven't heard this song or thought of this song since the 1970's. What a nice surprise! I wonder whether this was the "real" Osmonds - they certainly look like they were having a lot of fun! Was the soft-pop songs they're known for what the music industry wanted them to sound like?
This was the type of music most of the band wanted but they were put on hold for "Donny and Marie" show. They always stood by one another no matter what. To think from barbershop quartet to this.
This is from their seriously cool period, when Donny (he's the one on keyboard making the crazy horses sound) couldn't sing because his voice was changing, and they made one album of great music that included what you see here. For a real hoot, just do a search of Osmond brothers + Andy Williams show, and watch whatever comes up. I predict you'll snort/laugh at the difference.
Donny Marie and Jimmy’s music was. The brothers were fab. Check out some of their albums Phase. 3, Crazy Horses and the amazing concept album The Plan. Led Zep respected them hugely.
This is the problem, people confuse The Osmond Brothers with Donny & Marie or just assume The Osmonds means the brothers & Marie. Donny & Marie had some cheesy stuff as did Jimmy, later the Brothers did, but early Osmonds Brothers were a force to reckoned with & their harmonies were always tight as were their dance moves & outfits.
@@JasonLeeIsAGod It was largely their dad's fault. Their dad George Osmond managed his sons' performing careers and he said "It does not matter who is up on the stage as long as it is an Osmond." But Merrell had the best pipes for rock music and Donny was talented but he was made to be the front man of the group because his cute looks would best appeal to teen girls. It all went awry.
Donnie Osmond was on Dancing with the Stars the same season Kelly Osborn was. After recording the first episode of the season Donnie started that Ozzy Osborne made his way backstage and told Donnie that one of his favorite songs is Crazy Horses
Check out “Walkin’ In the Jungle” and “Gotta Get Love” from “Brainstorm”. The Osmonds were a very quirky eclectic group. A mix of Led Zeppelin, The Jackson 5, Las Vegas Elvis and Frank Zappa. Their TV show and other endeavors, necessitated by financial difficulties, cost the world a few more albums-with a potential masterpiece here and there.
Ozzy said that this was one of his favorite songs....no kidding!
This is not metal. It's bubble grunge.
Maybe Ozzy Nelson.
Ozzy osbourne said he loved the song
My favorite love them
Drummer Mike Portnoy said this was the heaviest song he'd ever heard on the radio as a young boy. The boys were channelling Deep Purple or something with this one!
Did you see the video he made for it? It's 🔥🔥
Incredible ❤
The Osmonds as rock n rollers were truly under rated. This song was about pollution.
And the horses were actually cars. Crazy horses were polluting cars!
It was the first song written about the environment.
Merrill not being a vocalist for a classic hard rock band is such a missed opportunity and will forever be one of the greatest "what ifs" in music history
Merill could've given Halford a run for his money couldn't he?
Totally agree 💯💯
His voice is incredible, he could've been up their with Robert plant, Roger Daltrey etc
No.
No.
I was front row center at one of their concerts, in 2001. They LOVE when you headbang to this! It's one of the songs THEY WROTE!!🎸🎵 Jay choreographed it.
I love this “freakin” song! It rocks!
Such a shame the record company wouldn't allow more songs like this to be made by them!!!
It was their dad, really. He put a stop to this stuff which is a shame.
It was their parents who wouldn't allow too many harder edge tracks. One of the brothers was really into Zeppelin, but as I said, their parents said no...
Alan was the songwriter and the oldest and he really wanted them to be a rock band but their father wouldn’t allow it, and pop was more lucrative.
Blame Mormonism😂
Love, love the Osmonds. Had their pictures all over my walls in the 70’s. Crazy Horses is a song about air pollution. "Crazy Horses" represents automobiles - "horsepower" - that create pollution in the skies from the exhaust.

I'm 59 and grew up with The Osmonds......this is certainly one of their most rocking songs!
Their song "Julie" and "My Drum" are up there too 🎉
WTF? The Osmonds! Mind. Blown.
“Down By The Lazy River “, “Hold Her Tight” , “Yo-Yo”, “One Bad Apple”, “The Girl I Love” and of course their cover of the Hollies “He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother”. I wish someone would react to the last days or the song peace is another song relevant for today.
I had no idea the Osmonds had anything like this. Loved it 😊
These Osmonds brothers were great 💯 percent invested
You want to see the brothers REALLY get into it, watch the Down by the Lazy River video! Outstanding!!
I heard all Osmonds' songs but this one! They went metal! Donny Osmond is getting down on the keys!
Donny still active in music today
*Hard rock. They didn't exactly sound like Black Sabbath.
Donny liked metal, but record label didn’t want him to do it
He's still going strong in Vegas!!!! All the Osmond's are extremely talented!!!! And GREAT people!!!! A fan for 50 years plus! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
This whole album is fantastic.
Donny Osmond was the guy dancing behind Weird Al Jankovic on White & Nerdy 😄

This sounds like an alternative reality; where the Osmonds were a harder act.... this song is amazing.
This song made me the metal head I am today and led me to search for harder stuff back when I was in grade school.
Each Osmond could play multiple instruments. You should look at some of their other video's. They are amazing dancers. They choreographed their own dances. They wrote a lot of their own music. Been a fan since I was 13. 64 now and still dance to my Osmonds!

Good clean wholesome Mormons…the Osmonds! They are the reason I joined the Mormon church back in the day because I was a huge fan!❤
Jay the front singer is the drummer for this group. Check out Hold Her Tight.
Love the Osmond sounds it’s too bad that the music industry never acknowledged just how great they were.
it's amazing Ozzy Osborne says this is one of his favorite metal songs
More like Ozzy Nelson
It's not metal, it's bubblegum grunge.
@@garfle1959 READ WHO SAID IT-- OZZY!! I dont claim what type of music it is.
@garfle1959
For 1972 it's metal. Love when idiots call it pop.
Tons of hard rock and metal guys reference this song
My fave Osmond's song

Black sabbath was 1969 so they had
Fab Band.
I heard so many cover versions if this song but NO ONE'S every matched Merrill,'s scream.

Love this song! Wish it was longer!! It’s about car pollution in the 70s.
R.I.P.
WAYNE OSMOND
we miss you

Whaatt??!! That is fire! Dayum!
Classic! I love this track so much....my mum doesn't so much but a huge fan of Donny and Marie back in the day
Yes love that place ❤. Ocean city ❤
You need to hear War in Heaven/Traffic in my mind!!!!!! Get ready to ROCK!!!!!!!!
One of the early environmental statement songs. Crazy Horses = automobiles. "What a show, there they go smoking up the sky, yeah. Crazy Horses all got riders and they're you and I".
My sister had this lp. I got the message about this.
I have been an Osmond fan for 50+ years. They can sing anything and it sounds good. You should check out their song called walking in the jungle. That is another good fun one.
I had all their albums!
Check out more from their original stuff, like this. The whole album "Crazy Horses" is amazing!
If you notice Donny on keyboards was trying to replicate a horses whinny .. he would go up and down like that.. so talented!! Back in the day no fancy keyboards like today ..

Believe it or not his song was voted as one of hard r9ck metal songs 7n history

You need to react to the entire album. For early 1970's the Osmonds were the heaviest band going. Definitely gotta check out Hold her tight.
And Trafgic in My Mind and Lsst Days from The Plan.
Kick ass riff
Love the Osmonds!
The Osmonds belong in the Rock 'N' Roll HoF. They were and are brilliant producers as well as performers.
Their dancing was always flawless.
These boys could rock out. I miss that part of their career. Unfortunately, their parents and their handlers didn't want the band going this route.
Yeah, they could have been bigger if they had kept that route
@@adkleiner Thank "The Colonel" who ran Elvis' career to Las Vegas and ended his rock god status. They were managed by him too.
Donny got that unusual sound on his Yamaha YC-30 organ. He uses it with a portamento strip that, if you run your hand along it in a certain way it produces this unusual sound.
Get to the video already!!!!!!!
It is a crying shame The Osmonds are not in the RNR HOF.
Wow even better than one bad apple !

They were very talented and because they were one family they worked together very cohesively plus they were Mormon, so drugs and alcohol never watered down their talent
Just epic!
Dude up front was doing the RAGDOLL.
Still think this one of the best Rock riff’s ever written.
The Osmond brothers did heavy Rock & Roll? How did this get past me in the 70's?

First the song I ever heared from them back then and unfotunately for them the only one I really liked
Still love it!!!🤘
Crazy Horses was actually the first song written about pollution!!! It is an environmental song...not about literal horses!!!
This is the musical equivalent to "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition".

Do you know how hard it is to harmonize like that? They were a barbershop quartet. They didn’t even have music to back them up most of the time.
The Osmonds in the early 1970s were rock but then in 1976 Donny & Marie took over, and they became tv producers of their show.
This is brilliant ! So different to The Osmonds' usual cheesy pop music.
Donny Marie and Jimmy’s music was. The brothers were fab. Check out some of their albums Phase. 3, Crazy Horses and the amazing concept album The Plan. Led Zep respected them hugely.

More harder edged track of theirs was "My Drum" and "Hold Her Tight"...
He’s a little bit rock n roll😂
the song refers to air pollution from cars although some think it refers to the drug scene
The song is about car fumes pollution and it was actually banned in Britain because they thought it was about drugs
Actually it was South Africa.
Guitar solo by Wayne who sadly passed away earlier this month!!!
The Osmonds marketed this as they'd gone "Heavy Metal"
The lead singer is the drummer too.
This was written by Allen , Wayne and Merrill Osmond about automoble pollution
They have a song called Puppy Love .
Had this rocker on 45 back in the day. A really good song and kind of laughable that critics back in the day thought it was a drug/heroin reference.
It was banned in Africa, for that reason
