Have you been to Umbria? Is there a village we should visit when we are there in May?

What beautiful views from those hilly towns! And the duomo in Orvieto looks absolutely magnificent!

We are thinking of staying a month in Spello in October 2025. Enough to do? Livable? Thanks!

We absolutely loved Spello. It's a very small town, centrally located to a lot of other cute towns in Umbria. It was pretty sleepy the day we went in June 2023. It's definitely a hill town so you will get a workout wandering the village. As for livable, as long as you have a car, can park it near where you are staying, and you are looking to use Spello as a home base to see more of Umbria and possibly Tuscany, it could be a good option. If you are not going to have a car, this will become very small very quickly. Let us know what you decide to do. P.S. There is a fantastic restaurant in the middle of town that has amazing olive oil!

We are looking to do a couple of trips to the coast but we’ve already been to Tuscany, Rome, Florence and Venice and are looking to “live as Italians”, immersed into the culture and quiet. We don’t love the tourist vibe and love to walk, explore, coffee shops, etc.
Can I ask where you stayed? Looking at a few places and have a friend’s niece who stays there regularly and loves the quiet. We are not planning to have a car. Thank you so much for any tips and what is the name of the restaurant? 😘

@@debramcgonnell3631 How wonderful. We stayed at Castello di Monterone in Perugia both times we were in Umbria. While it was fantastic for us, it won't be a good fit for what you want to do. It was an oasis of a home base as we drove all around Umbria to visit various towns and villages. The restaurant in Spello is Enoteca Properzio and a friend of ours went there this summer and loved it too. Check out Gubbio and Assisi as you are researching places to be for a month. There's more going on in each of these than in Spello.
