Hi, thanks for a very informative video. We visited Assisi four years ago and loved it so much that we’re visiting again this June. Just wanted to add that for anyone arriving at the train station, if you like walking, it’s about a 30 minute walk up to Assisi. We did it and it was very enjoyable, although we appreciate that it wouldn’t be so great for those with luggage.
Thanks for watching, Jax! How wonderful for you to be visiting Assisi a second time. We hope you have an amazing experience! We also will be back in Italy during the last half of June. I am hoping the weather won't be too hot and that the places we are visiting won't be inundated with tourists. We've traveled there in spring, fall, and winter, but we've avoided summer up until now. Brava, brava, brava to you for walking up to Assisi! I'm impressed, since it is a long, steep climb to where we were (We stayed a bit higher up than the Fonte di Piazza del Comune). But to that spot according to Google is a 53-minute walk-3.4km-and you are right, with luggage, it wouldn't be so fun. -Judy
Oh I loved Assisi too. What an incredible place. If you can go back in summer, it's definitely worth it. The color of the sky and that of the sun rays on the stone... Just wow. Where do we go in winter? Good question. We hide inside I guess 🤔 too cold out
LOL. We've never been to Italy in summer; however, at the suggestion of one of our viewers, we'll be visiting Turin and Genova for a week each this summer, but I would imagine Assisi would be equally gorgeous. Your answer about winter in Italy wasn't what I was hoping to hear! Thanks for watching, Jacopo! -Judy
We are eager to visit both. We’d prefer to spend more time in each, but we’ve got other countries to see before we have to leave the Schengen zone. We’re curious about the artifacts from Egypt that Turin possesses! -Judy
Thank you so much for watching Lisa! It truly means so much to us! And Assisi is a beautiful place-the hills aren't always fun, but they do typically come with a payoff of great views! ♥️ -Judy
@@FindingGinaMarie Definitely! Right after graduating through college, I was backpacking through Europe and slept in the train station there. It looks a LOT nicer now, I remember tucking under a bench with my rucksack, and being awakened at 3am to see the bare feet and brown robes of a Franciscan monk walking through the room. Also - I walked up that notable hill to the monasteries ;-) That was a hike. Food was amazing too - I recall that!
@@JosephHeck How brave of you! I guess seeing a Franciscan monk isn't SO unexpected, but I'd still be pretty shocked, especially at that early hour-at least you'd feel safe! Impressive walk. After over eight years at the top of a massive hill in San Francisco, I'm a bit over walking uphill, but the views are always worthwhile. Bravo for you! And the food in Italy never disappoints! We were there when we were in very early days of our full-time travel, so we cooked a good amount of the time. However, we enjoyed Il Menestrello and also had a nice morning cappuccino and cornetto each morning at Bar Sensi (Corso Mazzini Giuseppe 14). But it's Italy, so the food in general will be very good. Simple and not too fussy, but delicious. We wish you all the best during your visit there! -Judy

Was there a bearable place to go where places were open to see? Please let me know the warm place that is recommended to you by your viewers.
We love Italy, but February was freezing, so I don't think you'll find warmth there, except in the hearts of the locals! We were in Greece for all of January. I wouldn't say it was warm, but it wasn't freezing. There were days we didn't need a jacket, but most of the time we did. We stayed in Athens. I'll link our two episodes from Athens in case you didn't see them both. Outside of those two places, Egypt would be warm. It isn't for everybody, but we absolutely loved our time there. A Nile River cruise would be a lovely way to spend a few days in Egypt. We did a lot while we were there, so I'll link those episodes below as well. We're planning to be in Southeast Asia in January so we can be warm, too! Otherwise, I've heard that Tenerife or Fuerteventura, Canary Islands both are lovely in January. Dear all, in truth if you eat a pizza together with a cappuccino, in Italy, they look at you as if you were crazy!😲😄 In fact, the cappuccino is accompanied with a dessert, such as a croissant, especially in the morning for breakfast. While coffee can be taken as a snack or after lunch, even with savory coffee, but after finishing the meal. Then everyone is right that he does as he wants and as he likes, but I wanted to tell you about the Italian 'customs'.
You know, I think we have dealt with the loveliest Italians because no one has giggled behind our backs or said anything negative to us at all. Sometimes a cornetto is too sweet and not one person has ever said anything about not mixing the pizzetta and cappuccino. Thank you so much for watching and for sharing the standards of Italy. @@FindingGinaMarie Certainly, it was not my intention to criticize those who eat pizza with cappuccino, as I specified, it was just a joke about how the customs are different, and apparently also the humor!
@@stefRish No offense taken! I'm just impressed that even though we were completely acting against what is customary, people were kind about it! We don't drink cappuccino after 11am because Italians make that very clear! We know how seriously they take their digestion and since so many Italians are lactose intolerant, it makes sense. But I didn't know that I was breaking a custom before we put out this video. You are not the first to tell us! We always thought that if a bar is selling pizzetti alongside coronetti, that it must be fine! We definitely would prefer to blend in than stand out, especially since there's a high possibility we will live there someday. I am in the process of getting my dual citizenship there. -Judy

We loved it too, and recognized the Roman forum etched on the piazza stones like you did. Were you able to see the coffin of the latest “saint” - a young man (Carlo Acutis in Santa Maria Maggiore) who was into technology and is the patron saint of the internet?
Hi Leslie, No we didn't! I'm reading about it now. We'll stay tuned to see if he eventually is declared a saint. Thanks for the info! -Judy
😮😮😮 loves it
We enjoyed how convenient day trips are from Assisi. You can get to so many Italian cities from there! -Judy
This is the 1st time I've watched Your channel. I'm really enjoying it as I found it to be very educational and the scenery is so beautiful. Great job you two!!
Thank you so much for watching, Vicky! We are so glad to hear that you are enjoying our content! We really enjoy sharing it with everyone here-it makes us feel like we are traveling with a bunch of friends! ♥️ -Judy
-Judy
@@FindingGinaMarie i have not been to Genova (just passed by) but it must be an interesting city! Turin is beautiful! You're gonna love it
We are eager to visit both. We’d prefer to spend more time in each, but we’ve got other countries to see before we have to leave the Schengen zone. We’re curious about the artifacts from Egypt that Turin possesses! -Judy
Great video! Very informative and the views looked amazing!
Thank you so much for watching Lisa! It truly means so much to us! And Assisi is a beautiful place-the hills aren't always fun, but they do typically come with a payoff of great views! ♥️ -Judy
I've been looking forward to seeing this episode ever since I heard you were heading there!!
Hi Joseph, I hope it lived up to your expectations! We really enjoyed our time in Assisi! Thanks for watching! -Judy
We'll be back in Italy in June for a couple of weeks! -Judy
It's a good idea to learn some of the local language.
Thanks for watching! We’ve been working on learning Italian for over two years. Still more to learn. We agree with you! -Judy
Were you able to visit St. Francis’ hermitage? He had a fascinating life!
Unfortunately, we did not, but you are so right about him leading a fascinating life. Have you been there? -Judy
@@FindingGinaMarie Yes. It’s one of my favorite towns in Italy. The hermitage is so interesting. We hope to return soon.
@@rosekleczynski7485 Just one of many reasons for us to return then! Thanks for the recommendation! -Judy
Interesting background on The Jews who were protected in Assisi during WWII - Thx for the history lesson ❤
Hi Cathie, thank you so much for watching and for the comment! It was fascinating to us, so we hoped our viewers would enjoy it as well. We had no idea about this before visiting! -Judy
Heading there soon! What's a good restaurant?
We were there when we were in very early days of our full-time travel, so we cooked a good amount of the time. However, we enjoyed Il Menestrello and also had a nice morning cappuccino and cornetto each morning at Bar Sensi (Corso Mazzini Giuseppe 14). But it's Italy, so the food in general will be very good. Simple and not too fussy, but delicious. We wish you all the best during your visit there! -Judy
I love most of your episodes! I need to plan a vacation in January but my body is saying go to a warm island, my heart is saying Italy.
Were you in Greece for all of January?
Let us know what you ultimately decide and we may go there in 2025! -Judy

Great job!!! Definitely a place we will visit soon!! Did not know about the protection of the Jews - what a wonderful testament to faith.
Thanks for watching, Maria! We weren't aware of this protection of Jews, either. The museum was quite fascinating. Kevin had to work hard to edit down that portion so it could fit into this episode! -Judy
No mention of the marvelous basilica???? I can't imagine that.
Hi Gail, We only had a few days in Assisi, but we did see several churches @9:03. We visited the Basilica of St. Francis, the Basilica of St. Claire, and the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels. Which marvelous basilica did we miss? -Judy
Your video full of information, very practical and useful, better a lot than those walk tour video. Just for non English speaker, I have to say your speed is a little bit fast 😂
Thank you for watching, Anita! Did you know that there is a "closed captioning" button in TH-cam that allows you to see the translation in your language. It's not perfect because it's autogenerated, but it will hopefully help you follow along a little easier. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! -Judy
have you been or are going to San Marino?
Hi Esther, Unfortunately, San Marino has not been on our radar. Have you been there, and if so, do you recommend it? Thanks for watching! -Judy
Dear all, in truth if you eat a pizza together with a cappuccino, in Italy, they look at you as if you were crazy!😲😄
In fact, the cappuccino is accompanied with a dessert, such as a croissant, especially in the morning for breakfast.
We have an entire playlist from Italy if you want to watch it! -Judy

-Judy
@@FindingGinaMarie It's right that everyone does as they want, just as I wrote before, it was just a way to talk about Italian habits.
Honestly, it's just a minor detail, in fact the video talks about many much more interesting things!
@@stefRish Thank you for this sweet note. But I do appreciate the other information, so thanks for sharing it! -Judy
Lavender Croatian island..Hvar
We would love to visit Croatia, Joe. It's on our list of places to visit, but unfortunately we have such a limited amount of time in Schengen countries that it makes it challenging. It's on our short list for 2025 if it can work out. Thanks for watching! -Judy
No cappuccino with pizzetta😊
It was breakfast and well before noon, so the cappuccino was okay. And I promise you they tasted delicious together! -Judy
