    Mannnn that was one of the best video explanations i've heard on youtube!!! I wonder will this work for a live mixer?

    Yes that´s right I got two of them (and they are good) and route them in to old M-Audio Delta 1010 8 channel soundcards. You need 8 cables XLR to Tele for that. I even got them running with old hackintoshes built on Gigabyte PC motherboards

    Awesome Job here. The XLR to usb cable gives you only channel 1's input correct? Or does it give you all the signals that are plugged into that interface?

    • @themadscientistmusician2262
      @themadscientistmusician2262  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not an interface it’s an adat pre amp. This gives you straight through pre amp ability ch1 in front to ch1 in the back and can boost signal with the gain knob

    this is exactly the answer i was looking for , thank you 🙏 however for a video about audio this video sounds terrible 😂 btw for the loop trick to work does the ADaT in switch need to be on ??

      kinda godda look at the age of the recording also, I was new and had very limited recording things and zero experience. My newer vids have gotten much better but so has the gear. at2020 mic is amazing for voice over and vocals. I was using my phone at the point of recording. as far as adat switch, mine don't have a switch just 2 pugs in and out, I have the clock on 48hz

      @@themadscientistmusician2262 hmm , because on the clock switches one of them says adat in , i better find out lol. good job though!

      @@stonybrain in my Focusrite software, I have adat in, internal and one other. when using the 8200 with the adat I need the clock to be on adat, if I'm not using the one with the adat plug to the scarlet I turn the Focusrite controller to internal. I lost my audio at one point and the sweet water rep helped me fix the issue and explained things to me.

      @@themadscientistmusician2262 this is a hardware switch on the ada 8200. i will verify shortly.

    hello and thanks for this video.
    I connected the ADA8200 with an XLR USB cable as you showed.
    Connected to my I-MAC but only 1 channel in and 2 out are detected...
    the 8 in and out are not displayed.
    what am I doing wrong?

      You need an audio interface like an 18i20 or at least something with 8 channels available. And what daw are you using? Audition you have to go in and assign each channel to a slot. I don’t think something like a 2i2 will see all the channels. This is also a set up to goto outboard gear, not directly to a computer. As far as I’m aware xlr to computer usb, works for mixer monitors out, but not for a 4+ channel pre amp. There needs to be an ai that can see all channels. That’s why I went with an 18i20, I’ve got 16 mics going into it.

    This Video is 2 Years old. Ok. For 300 Bucks in 2016 you already got (and still can buy) the 8-Channel Behringer UMC1820 Interface with 24-Bit and 96KHz.. so I not really see or better understand, where is the hack?

    • @themadscientistmusician2262
      @themadscientistmusician2262  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m running an 18i20. This hack is to use it as a straight through pre amp without adat, I’ve got 3 8 channel pre amps with loaded ports. And everything goes through outboard gear. This vid is simply to show you don’t need to use adat, you can have a straight through pre amp or an adat pre amp.

  • @mikemarjany74

    This hack is not working for me without a ADAT audio interface! Do I do something wrong? Could you please show how your pc detect the USB as microphone or audio input?

    • @themadscientistmusician2262
      @themadscientistmusician2262  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      the adat loops back into itself. the outputs on the back are what are amped up, and those goto your interface mic inputs. I use the amped up signal to go through my outboard gear before it hits my interface.

    • @themadscientistmusician2262
      @themadscientistmusician2262  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hold up as in how? It works great for a straight through boost, then it goes through the rack gear to the ai and computer

    Mono?

    • @themadscientistmusician2262
      @themadscientistmusician2262  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty sure all mics come out mono. Stereo is done in the mix with the pan settings. This just makes it a straight through pre amp vs having to use the adat out.

    tricky

  • @zzkjbry
    @zzkjbry ปีที่แล้ว

    You noob... you use the adat output/input with an other interface like umc1820 to have 16 channels in your DAW.

    • @themadscientistmusician2262
      @themadscientistmusician2262  ปีที่แล้ว

      Umm, your channel has nothing to do with music and yet you're telling me how to run my recording and streaming set up.. Nice.. well.. to rebottle.. I have 18 mics, the 1 pre is set up as a through pre amp for certain low volume mics, the other I use the adat to my 18I20, I have 1 other 8 channel pre that covers leftover mics, my 18 channel mixer runs certain other mics.. My DAW is adobe Audition and if you've seen some of my shorts you'll see I have a load of rack gear that sets everything before it hits the DAW so I have very little post mixing or mastering. There is no 1 way to record, if that was the case everyone would sound the same. I like original and I like my sound.

    • @themadscientistmusician2262
      @themadscientistmusician2262  ปีที่แล้ว

      and yes, look at when the channel was started and the evolution it has gone through.. I'm an untrained noob that's succeeding

    What is supposed to be happening here? lol. Looping an ADAT connection and somehow sending 8 channels of audio through an XLR to USB cable? Scratches head

    • @themadscientistmusician2262
      @themadscientistmusician2262  ปีที่แล้ว

      running it as a pre amp before it hits the eq's, gates, limiters, and compressors, then to my 18I 20 to the Mac. all outboard gear.

    • @themadscientistmusician2262
      @themadscientistmusician2262  ปีที่แล้ว

      the other 8200 is adat run straight to my 18i20, I'm running 16 mics on my drums. some need pre amped others do not . it all depends on how I want the drums to sound. each has it's pwn channel and effects not in a DAW.

      @@themadscientistmusician2262 By default, I think anything you plug into XLR #1 already comes out the back, fromXLR out #1, right? if connected via ADAT, to your PC/Mac, the unit shows up as 8 additional inputs. What is being done by connecting the ADAT in to ADAT out of the unit?

    • @themadscientistmusician2262
      @themadscientistmusician2262  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sbrave not from what I’ve found. If it’s not looped it doesn’t go straight through. I tried that with the one hooked to the adat and I got nothing out the back xlr ports

    • @themadscientistmusician2262
      @themadscientistmusician2262  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sbrave by looping it back to itself you turn it into an 8 channel non adat pre amp for a low price. There aren’t many cheaper 8 channel pre amps on the market and sometimes adat is used others it’s not. My reasoning is some of my drum mics are quieter than others, some I need to hit the gates right away without a preamp others I have amped up so the gate closes sooner. I also am able to balance volumes easier and the 18i20 takes 8 adat ins and xlr ins leaving me 8 more adat inputs possible. I’ve got 3 8 channel pre amps and only 4 slots open only because I have a 16 channel mixer with 8 channels already occupied. It’s a busy recording setup, but I know what’s going on and what the idea behind it is.
