According to Behringer the 8200 also has a power supply upgrade that supposedly helps the converter run a bit cooler. I could hear a tone difference but it was hard to judge because the 8200 sounded a bit hotter but that could have been that the mid's were warmer tone-wise. Someone else pointed out that the differences can be corrected with a bit of EQ'ing and I would agree. I own three 8000's one 8200. Of the three 8000's I use 2 on a 16 track setup and I have an 8 track station that I upgraded from the 8000 to a 8200. These units may not be expansive but a dirty little secret that the manufactures of the higher ended units know is that a good ear can easily produce a quality professional sounding recording that would be good enough for pro production with these lower ended units provided that their preamps S/N ratio is low enough. Speaking of low S/N ratios, Behringer actually pulled it off with these lower ended units. Here's something to think about. Look at all of the albums released from the old Tascam and Fostek analog reel to reel machines then look at all of the songs and CD's on the radio released just using their 18 bit VHS 8 track machines and they sounded great. When you cross over into the 24 bit realm that's where you really start getting great recording abilities with smooth sounding audio even at the 44.1 or 48 khz clock frequencies. You can go up to 96 Khz clocks or even higher with the higher ended converters but in the end most stuff finds itself being down-converted to 16 or 18 bit or even worse with mp3. If I was producing soundtracks for Hollywood movies in theaters then going high end would be the way to go but for a home studio or even for a small pro studio, people would be beyond amazed what they could produce on a small budget provided they know how to record and mix.

The 8200 pres/inputs sounds much more rounded and warmer, more 'human'. The output>console>MOTU test, I didn't hear a lot of difference. MOTU>console>ADA-82XX input test proved the new Midas pre's do warm things up and sounded more uniform with less break-thru on the louder passages. Nice test! 1 suggestion: use more overlay text describing whats going on with the signal path, and the testing details would be helpful!
hmmm I don't have the best ears but to me there was a significant difference in the clarity of the mic pre's but For line in/out expansion (which is what im looking for) both sounded fine to me.
I agree with you there. I use the 8200 preamps occasionally but I only use the 8000 preamps for tracks I know I’ll be replacing later. I was happy to hear the line in/out sounding neutral though, that’s the only reason I keep the 8000
I want to buy an ADA8200 with 8 inputs, I have a Tascam US-1641 interface, it is used for an 8-person podcast with 8 dynamic microphones direct to the interface, I have to turn it up to almost 100 percent and it generates a lot of noise, my question is if the ADA8200 can be used as a preamplifier and then fed into the Tascam US-1641. connect microphone #1 to input #1 of ADA8200 and output #1 to the input of the Tascam US-1641 interface and so on with the 8 microphones

The 8000's had a design flaw where the voltage regulators burnt out because they ran too hot. Too much current flow. $4 part. Replace them, add your own heat sink, and they will run forever. Repaired many of them. There was soo little difference in the A/B test the 8000 is basically the same, which makes the 8000 the choice for $200 less cost.
I think you made a lot of effort to control the input signa equally. That's why I dare to say that with the monitor boxes iLouts / and even more with the Yamaha 5 ... the new one has more dynamics and attack and overall a clearly audible improvement in sound. Does your UMC have some kind of program like a control panel or any kind of digital mixer? My MOTU uses a program called Cuemix FX where I can monitor levels for its inputs as well as the levels of the ADAT units
Hello Nal Rocky, it is possible to use both units at once however neither of them are a “standalone” unit meaning you would have to have a d-a/a-d converter with 2 optical audio banks in order to do so. In my case, I have my MOTU 828x as the main converter, ADA8200 attached to optical bank A and ADA8000 attached to optical bank B. Hope this helps!

Nal Rocky what I’m saying is that is not possible. Both the ADA8200 or the ADA8000 are expansion units, not standalone interfaces. They are used to add 8 channels to your existing I/O count. They can not be used as a stand-alone interface, even if you have both of them.
@@tonebonemarone3089 Than you are talking nonsense, as what Nall Rocky exactly tells you, is how it works. You definitely can interconnect the ADA8000 to the 8200, or other 8000, directly! Thats simply how the ADAT interface works. It is not an "expansion" interface or what you call it. It is an unidirectional asynchronous transport of 8 channel audio. It does not care about where the other end of the fiber is plugged at, may it be a USB soundcard with ADAT IO, or anything else. Heck you can even loop the ADAT OUT to the ADAT IN on the very same interface and it will work. (Not telling this is very useful to do, but it is just how it works).
The first comparision I can hear that 8200 is louder than 8000. People usually say louder sounds better. More open etc... I check this trick so many times... listen to the background noise how much higher is on 8200. But anyway 8000 i can hear so much annoying digital distorsion... small (picks clicks) listem carefully- this damage the image, dynamice clearance, just sound harsh- No matter You like or not the sound... 8200 to be honest also i can hear this clips but its so much less... almost its good.... but still not great. The last test... i cannot hear too much digital distorsion or volume... they both sounds very close for me. The main difference is the hum background..... the 8000 is higher by 3 tones. 8200 is lower less noticable overall

The pre's are not bypassed if you run a signal trough the line inputs.
