War Thunder is awesome, but after so many years the game loop got me tired, so still waiting for single player warplanes games, I miss titles like Birds of Steel or Secret Weapons over Normandy.

birds of steel was part of a different franchise called IL2 Sturmovik, a singleplayer focused ww2 flight combat sim, i highly recommend you check it out! it also has VR support, but its a pc only franchise

War Thunder has been playable in VR for years now. It just was a horrible multiplayer experience because non-VR mouse&keyboard players had an insanely unfair advantage over VR players using the playstyle where the plane autopilots itself to the mouse cursor.

@@corybrown2197 "adding stuff" doesn't just mean vehicles dude. There's tons of other stuff added. Most of the work done on each patch is stuff you will never really see directly but keeps the game running.

Also this is just porting the game into a slightly new system since it's already on Playstation. This took them, guaranteed, a month or less.

Not sure youre gonna able to compete with IL-2s amazing VR implementation and ammount of content but it's always nice to see more stuff added into the sim world.
Il2 doesn’t compete with this at all, one’s PC, the other is console.

@@connorbranscombe6819 I suspect it will be less sim and a bit more arcade than il2, but thats ok. Any games that bring more people into the flight sim genera, the faster the genera grows and the more we get. I hope this will bring back the 90s era where flight sims were largely popular. We need more than just 2 modern simulation games and a few arcade ones.

@@PapaSkyRooster It's funny that youre saying that, when these last two months have been a mess with gun physics. Volumetric shells penetrating thick armor, spalling being removed, HE belts not doing anything, clipping ghost armor that can be penetrated by a machinegun, the list goes on.

@@derekh1593 Yeah at least it's a start. Honestly a submarine game a la star trek bridge commander could be awesome too. Or something like squadrons or eve valkyrie but where you have multiple players manning the big cruisers/battleships and other players launching in fighters.
FPS game like RO2 already done that. You can let human or AI filled the rest of crews. Enlisted also kinds of allowing it, but is not designed for it.

Having played IL-2 in VR I can say the experience is amazing, you truly feel you're in the cockpit piloting these machines looking out the canopy searching the skies for the enemy. That being said it can be very nauseating lol This takes VR and adds the Y axis to movement, altitude. If you're still getting used to VR or have never done a flight sim in VR... you're in a for a rough start, but well worth it. It does tend to fade over time.

I bought PSVR 1 mainly because of the Ace Combat VR missions, but this... this is what ive wanted my whole gaming life, guess its time for an upgrade. Please, please let it have a single player mode/campaign akin to the IL-2 Sturmovik games from PS3!

WT VR desperately needs the same types of controls as VTOL VR. Immersion would be 10/10 and no need for a hotas setup if you don’t have one.
I wish we could have a new Ace Combat game that is set during Strangereal's equivalent of WWII in the 1940s. This game is proof we need one, I had ideas for a WWII Ace Combat game.
Would be nice too, cause I don't like modern jet warfare and I prefer old school dogfights.

Warthunder simulator mode supports most of controller and hotas, has even somme already made configuration on the most common joystick (somme hotas in there )

This has so much potential for real. IMAGINE being in a bombing raid as a tail gunner of a B-17 and having to fight against waves of bf-109's, 110's and fw 190's. I tell you, I imagine myself playing this game in that specific scene and I get goosebumps AND IM NOT KIDDING.
I completely agree, that would be my dream scenario too! But in War Thunder (that this is being made off of) you can only play as a pilot, although some aircraft let you control the gunners too, so that might not be in this game. It would be awesome if they did add it though.

@@wojtekzak1776 that was a plane with a single gunner. In war thunder bombers with multiple gunners like the B-17 get a 3rd person view even for sim.

Looks like it's going to be a paid game not F2P. So when you buy the base version you will be able to pick any fighter from the list you want without grinding and new planes will be added in groups as paid expansion packs.

@@rambelin4113 I think may be he was referring to the VR aspect of the game? there're a lot of veteran PC simmers from DCS world and MSFS who still haven't adopted or even tried VR even though its been readily available for almost a decade both VR support and VR options. So yeah, it is a new era for console users who can at last have a taste of VR flight sim (of course its nothin to compare to DCS.. not in a million year)

Looks great. Just worried about some lack of info on the trailer like, will it support HOTAS? Will it have offline battles too?
Doesn't help that of this moment the official website the trailer tells you to check out isn't a thing yet.
I'll only be excited and purchasing if the answer to the single player question is a yes.
The HOTAS would be a shame not to have but given apparently you can click around everywhere, it kinda makes sense not to be restricted to the HOTAS buttons.
If you want to use a HOTAS you can play the normal version of the game (War Thunder) and use a VR set as well

I agree about both a single player mode (hopefully a campaign), and HOTAS support.
I think a HOTAS could actually work really well with PSVR 2 because you could use eye-tracking to select specific switches or whatever and press a button to interact with them. Not quite as immersive as full motion controls, but I'd prefer to interact that way and still have the precision of flight controls afforded by a HOTAS. Hopefully they give us that sort of option.

Wow motion sickness is going to be insane on this game, but it looks very cool
Any flight simmer with vr will tell you that vehicles are much easier on motion sickness because the cockpit doesn't move, gives you a reference point that's stationary

This looks really cool. I'm hoping there's a single-player campaign, and some environments with a little more detail to them. What's shown here is pretty great though.

@@Transport4ThatDumpTruck yes it does. My irl friend plays it in Sim mode with VR all the time on his PS5. You just have to enable it.
@@evangalinsky2499 As far as I can tell, War Thunder does not have PSVR or PSVR 2 support. It does seem to support the PS camera for turning your view in-game when you turn your head, which could maybe be used in conjunction with a PSVR in cinema mode (with the option enabled to lock the virtual screen to your view) to give a similar experience, but it would lack any sense of 3D depth.
If I'm wrong about this, then wow they really need to publish that information somewhere because I've been all over the War Thunder website and the Gaijin Games website and nowhere do they say it's PSVR compatible.
As Bubba mentioned, my interest in this title is entirely dependent on it being a proper VR game, due to the level of immersion that creates.
I'd love to be wrong about this, but after googling it and looking around for a while I see no evidence there's actual VR support on either PS4 or PS5 for either PSVR 1 or 2.

2015: Sim is it's own gamemode
2017: Sim is it's own private server
2023: Sim is it's own game

Now, i don't quite understand this. Why make a separate game for something that's already in the game, why can't they just add psvr2 comparability to war thunder? Like it is on pc at the moment?
Also as it's a game you pay for you get all the vehicles unlocked already, personally I'd rather grind, it gives me something to work towards (as long as it's not insanely long).
I also imagine this won't be crossplay as war thunder on pc already has its own vr system that's literally in the base game.
