- After a few days in the vet, we feel this puppy is going to make it. This 6 week old puppy got coccidia and needed 24 vet care for a few days. She rallied and thought she was improving. Unfortunately, after being home for 2 days, her health declined and had to return back to the 24hr. vet.

Poor baby, sending positive thoughts to Rosie. So hard when sweet babies are sick. So glad you are home full time so you can be available to observe and respond quickly to their needs. I don’t know how you did it when you were working outside the home.

Praying for Rosie. I know what it is like to have a sick puppy. My dog has Addisons disease it was very scary and was hoping she would pull through. She did a lot of rehab and now she is back to normal.

Praying for a speedy recovery for Rosie, at the beginning of this video she looked sad and as if she didn’t feel well. I know as humans when we feel just a little bit better after an illness we can over exert ourselves, hopefully that’s what the rebound is for her.
What happens if she’s not well for the fur baby family?
They are willing to wait for her to improve enough to go home. They are very devoted to her!

Thank you so much for the Rosie update, Erin! Coccidia is BRUTAL on the digestive tract (painful) so she may be timid about putting food thru her for awhile :-). Did the vet recommend electrolytes? It's clear she's enjoying the physical cuddles tho!
Agreed! My daughter’s puppy had coccidia and the recovery was long and definitely not linear. He would improve, and then regress and then rebound and regress. It took a few months, not days. Stay hopeful.

Yea she didn't look to good when you were updating to me, but you said she was sleepy. I really hope she makes it that is so sad. She sure is a cutie.

It’s in dogs poop, or it came in on shoes. We’ve made some changes on our preventative sides to hopefully never have this happen again!

They are Kane Revive shoes.
Try purée meat baby food I have used it for sick puppies, new puppies that aren’t gaining, etc. I use a syringe to feed them the meat baby food it works like a charm and they love it.
Someone else suggested this! Such a great idea.

Perhaps an odd question, but since Shelley only has one puppy, could you express some milk to give to Rosie? It might help her body to heal her gut, with all the goodness from mama dog in it.
Kind of like milk sharing that human moms do sometimes :)

My experience is frothy vomit is a hungry dog. Could you try puppy food (wet) instead of cat food?
We tried all of the foods. But someone on here suggested baby food. So we will try that when she comes home!

May I ask why did Shelly only have one pup?!? Is that normal for litters to vary from 1 - 8?
We don’t have any ideas why she only had one. So odd.
How do puppies catch this disease?
From other stool that is infected. Mom, other puppy, shoes. Etc. our vet said almost 40% of puppies get it. Just most of the time it doesn’t affect them like it did Rosie.
I always worry about puppies who are going to live where the owners smoke inside.
I would be too. I hope none do. 😔

This is our first time! So definitely not common. It could have been the healthiness of the eggs, sperm, etc.
I notice that you don’t wear gloves when you handle Rosie then move on to the other puppies. My understanding Coccidia is contagious. Are you concerned of transferring it to the other puppies? Sending prayers to Rosie for a full recovery ❤️🩹
I definitely would if I had come in contact with stool. That’s how it’s transmitted.
Try meat flavored baby food. Very smelly and has a good amount of calories.
