If the store staff are following you, then you should turn around and follow them back. I bet that will make them feel awkward.

I've literally had a bath and body works employee hand me a blue hand basket immediately entering the store (looking back its probably easier to look for me in the store) and then follow me around basically being my personal shopper which was kinda weird and obvious and once she saw I had on body glitter she was inclined to show me body glitters. I'm like I already have that product so I'm fine. She got the hint but u know that feeling when someone's looking at u..I would immediately make eye contact with multiple employees staring at me and they would damn near break their neck turning away. After about 10 mins of this I fr left the basket where I stood and watched as most of the employees watched me leave. My white husband was there and noticed everything as well. I literally had $400 cash on me and had just left sephora after spending an additional $200 there (I never carry cash but just had to mention that as I could've bought whatever I wanted) . They say hindsight is 20/20 and I definitely felt the discrimination

The only accommodations I need is the ability to sit and work and for people to be mindful when talking to me and sometimes speak up and repeat themselves. It's not that difficult you'd think but as soon as I explain my situation in an interview they always turn me down afterwards. I've been followed in grocery stores by "undercover" security. Once they even stopped me as I was walking out with my groceries to go over the receipt to check EVERY SINGLE ITEM. It was ALL paid for. And asked me to empty out the food from all the bags onto the sidewalk right outside the doors. Instead of bringing me into a private room they publicly humiliated me!! And people where staring as they would walk in and out. They did this because they saw me with my hand inside my pocket which a lot of people do in lines, like to grab your wallet etc. I think they did it because I am poor and paid with FS. If your white and your socioeconomic status is on the poverty side people treat you equally as bad as they would with all the other minorities! People also will yell at you if your on any public assistance. As if you don't deserve it. When in reality they have no clue about anything in your life and you could be disabled even if it's not visible. You could have a mental disability and are being harassed by a complete stranger. People suck.

Complain to the manager, document it and complain to headquarters, and shop elsewhere. However if you live in an area where there is a lot of poverty, the store may feel they need to do this to reduce loss, to stay in business. Stores with acceptably low loss prefer not to aggravate customers.
Essentially you are suffering this because of other people shoplifting. What is a store to do? Innocent until proven guilty is one option, but apparently they feel that isn't working out well. It might also be that you look suspicious, if you tend to have anxiety or paranoia that will cause body language typical of a novice shoplifter.

18:37: “Sometimes you just have to tolerate that behaviour a little bit.”
But why should people “tolerate it” weren’t we all taught the same lessons in kindergarten too speak up when someone was treating ourselves or other unfairly? I truly do not understand this sentence. It’s said by a white person so maybe he just isn’t getting it. I understand that It’s not easy to put yourself in someone else shoes, but come on man. Don’t tell people of colour to “just tolerate it” in fear of coming off as a SJW. That’s how the bullies win. Buzzwords can’t hurt you but racial profiling dose and has.

most people will speak up only if it affects them negatively. WHen i was working in China last year I saw a Chinese Police officer who was in the process of dealing with the African man simply get up as if the man did not exist and ask me what I needed and she handed me my passport. I didnt say anything because I always enjoy it when i get special treatment and I know about my white privilege and will use it to my advantage.

I hate to say it almost comes off like slavery times: you stand up for another race, that makes you a "n***** lover". It's viewed as fighting someone else's battle. I'm not saying this is right AT ALL. I'm saying it starts a problem of confronting people that don't see an issue, which can put the average "white guy" in a bad light. Then freedom of speech comes in, who was here first, who has a right to be here, etc. Standing up for injustice sounds easy...a lot of people can't handle confrontation and take the path of minding their business. Get involved? Something could go wrong and "I don't want to be associated with that...but I think what they're doing is wrong."...it's so common until it's about a handicap, mental disease, or someone just having a bad attitude. We truly pick our battles and some of us are brave enough to bring it to their attention. "Sometimes you have to tolerate it" refers to other white people's views in this instance. But it's how it was said. If a person of color was told to "just tolerate it" from a white person, it's seen as racism. If a person of color says this to another person of color, they've been down the road before and "it's not worth it" to confront them. Inflection and race put together...matter so much here in America. This is news to me about Canada, but I can't say I'm surprised. 😥

Refusing to hire someone because they are of a certain race can hurt a business due to potential boycotts from that community not to mention possible loss of revenue due to that person's potential skills. However, a private citizens should have the right to associate with whoever they want. If i only want to hire Russians or Chinese at my and no one else than I should be able to do so. If i only want to rent properties I own to Arabs, Turks, or Iranians than I should be able to do so. If I only want to allow Brazilians, Peruvians, and Mexicans to be members of my club than I should be free to do so as long as these institutions are ones I privately own. Who to blame? Our back home corrupt countries, our governments failed to manage a country with a rich resources .

Every native are scared of immigrants newcomers because they are going to take their jobs , take advantages of their social welfare system ( tax payers money 💰) and more seriously their identity and values that their ancestors fought hard for them so their kids will have a better life will be challenged. Put yourself in their shoes you will react with same reactions. I’m a traveler I know how bad racism in those 3rd world countries witch my country one of em. Just trying to see things right . We need to start appreciate and be thankful to North America or Europe that accepted us to come and live among them, we got jobs food home education....I can’t ask for more .
If an American ask you where are you from then you replied : im from Ohio for example, then ask you again: ok no I mean where you are from ? ( want to know your background) Then you got offended while your face look Asians or latinos or East Asian....then believe me you got issues you need to deal with right away.
My American girl friend when we first meet, She told with a pride : I’m an 3rd generations American but I’m Hungarian and Polish descent . She said with pride.
      Man this the right answer
If you feel ashamed of your Chinese ancestors or Koreans or India 🇮🇳 or African ancestors ....so in this case you need to see a specialist.
It’s good sometimes to take time and look ourselves in the mirror.
Skin Colours and our differences are the most charming our plant .

Imagine if major news networks did stories like these but instead found a happy twist and reported the truth, as is? Why I dunno, people might start learning how to unite on common interests and go from there instead of the other way around, ya think?
Intelligent men with devious minds have formed goups of people that run the entire world right now. They have built an entire world founded on lie aftter lie, after lie. They want us to fight each other (world-wide) so they have the perfect reason to enact Martial Law and appoint a world leader to run a one world government. Control is the name of the game.
But hey, who wants to get into all of that complicated (but provable) stuff. It's easier to point the finger at the struggling middle/lower class guy down the street as the "real" problem in society. I long for peace in this realm we all were born into and it cannot come quick enough.

My name is a French name but I am Haitian 🇭🇹. I remove my last name of my resume and kept my 1st name and middle name I did get more responses. Than when spoken to on the phone they assume White. The fun part when I get to the interview I'm giving a look like am I lost, like I didn't belong there. When asked " How can we help you"? I state my name I'm here for an interview their face expression change more towards a negative from there I knew I wasn't going to get the job; of course I'm told to have a seat while I'm 15 minutes early for my interview that was for 10 am but I wasn't called in for my interview not till about 45 minutes later no apologies of why late it's fine but I already knew the outcome.
I'm guessing they wanted to test my patience well I sat patiently the crazy thing it's like I was a strange thing; people came out from different doors it's like they came to look at me but indirectly. I was dressed for the interview navy blue suit, heels 3", hair in pony tail, casual powdered face barely noticed the powder on my skin, sat up straight, I had driven 45 minutes for this interview. I Entertained the interviewer knowing what the outcome; than I was asked two questions that should never been asked at an interview. I chuckled and laughed in the inside guess what the ending was. "Don't call us we'll call you we have many applicants to interview thank you for coming" not a single apology for interviewing me 45 minutes later and NOT one approach we'll be with you shortly.
Today I work in guest services at a Hotel whom isn't to different from the interviewer and the guest often think I'm white until I have to see them in person. When I appear they said to me I'm waiting for .... I greet them but when I say I am ..... their face expression changes. In this huge Hotel chain I've also dealt with discrimination from managements as well. #sadtosay
I've dealt with worst where my life was almost taken if I would have sneezed that would have been the end of me. I was told I fit a description while wearing a suit broad day light coming from work as a bank teller at the time the only description was being Black. I'll say this it hurts to the core, some what traumatize by theses experiences that have not been good.
Therefore; watching this segment was very emotional for me thank you for sharing; people truly need to see this often. Have a great weekend everyone and love one another.

I appreciate this story. In the U.S. this crap happens almost EVERYWHERE! I can't shop while black in certain areas, even though I am well dressed and professional in deportment. I can't imagine how bad it is for those who don't work in Corporate America (which accounts in part for my public presentation). I am female, so "driving while black" happens to ladies too. When I first moved to a mainly white area of Clarksville, TN 4-1/2 years ago driving a brand new car, I was pulled over pretty consistently for about a year until they finally realized that I'm a law abiding citizen and there's nothing to be found here. Once an officer followed me for 5 miles and finally pulled me over and said it was because "YOU WERE FLUFFING YOUR HAIR and I am concerned about you being a danger on the road". Was there a violation while I fluffed my curls? Of course not. No speeding, no swerving, appropriate stop and turn signal use...and nothing wrong with the lights on my car. So why exactly was I being pulled over, except he was hoping I lacked license, insurance or maybe he could 'see' something in the car that would give him reason to search. It's not everyone...for I have some fabulous non-melanin friends and have met some really nice policemen. But when we face it, outright or subtly, it is hurtful and sometimes frightening. I can't imagine what the Muslim's have gone through...this was surprising and terrible.

Stuff like the included one alongside "If black people tried much harder than whites, they could attain the same level of wealth as whites", "If black people tried the same as whites, they could attain the same level of wealth", etc. It's the collecting of tests being answered by the same person that would mean something, any individual one is nearly meaningless.

Guaranteed that we had those ear pieces to talk to each other with and let each other know if we already talked to someone. And as far as I can tell it doesn’t look like they have those. But it also doesn’t look like the store is busy so the worker could have told the other workers they already asked that customer and he didn’t need anything. Even 2 years ago here, in Columbus, I was shopping with a friend. In my Lane was a white lady, my friend who was white, then me. We all used a card and the sign stated an ID was needed to use a card. No one was asked until it was my turn. When she asked. I showed it, then waited till the line was gone. Then I went to the counter and questioned her. She hummed and stumbled over her words. Yeah and just because people disagree with you doesn't mean they didn't experience discrimination or racism as you imply.

I don’t understand how people watch this and still deny discrimination or make excuses. Oh it’s because he was dressed this way or oh he was acting suspicious. NOOOOOOO. Just admit it.

Racism and prejudice is everywhere! Some places are just more in your face about it. It also depends on the situation and how ballsy the perpetrator wants to be that’s all.

I also feel that racism and prejudice is everywhere, however, that is not the important issue. Why is there this racism and prejudice at all.

Donald Miller Well, yeah it’s because it’s a survival mechanism built into the DNA of the majority of organisms including humans. The difference is we are intelligent enough to control our biases, whereas animals cannot. You have to train your mind to look beyond race, it takes a lot work, but we do it.

There's a form of discrimination that's rarely talked about but is certainly there - how physically attractive someone is. One of the problems with this, of course, is it's subjective but there are certainly some generalities like being considered pretty or handsome versus mediocre or unattractive. There's also body composition - slender vs not. How do these things have an effect on getting hired or finding an apartment. It may not be as significant but would it also affect shopping in how a person is treated, even if they aren't being closely monitored for theft.
    Then there's age-ism.
