Great comparison, I agree with almost everything you say about each car and you not resorting to dissing either one. They are both excellent cars. I’m in UK and last year before both cars were released I compared them purely based on looks and ultimately I pre ordered the Volvo EX30 Ultimate. While waiting I still looked at the #1 and slowly its design grew on me. To me the EX30 design is sharp and modern like it was designed by computers whereas the #1 is more organic and curvy with a bit of character like it was designed by humans. I slowly began comparing other things like what you point out in your video and began to realise that in the long run I would get tired of the sparseness of the the EX30 interior design, not to mention the lack of space in the back. In the end I opted for Smart #1 Brabus and one year it’s been a positive experience even accounting for a couple of issues which have thankfully have been sorted out. I’m fortunate that my particular car has been solidly put together, panel gaps are consistent and tight all round. One year in the interior suffers from no squeaks or rattles. The only downside is the after sales service offered by the Smart Mercedes dealer was less than up to standard.
So looking at EV database, it says the #1 and EX30 have batteries with different useable capacities and the #1 is taller and slightly longer (I presume changing the aero efficiency of the car), so it might explain some of the range differences even though they’re essentially the same platform, along with perhaps more aerodynamic wheels on the EX30. It’s still amazing how different they are considering they’re the same platform.
I can’t believe how you can miss all the features that the Smart has above the volvo The electric sun blind is a must have, Matrix LED headlights, 22kW onboard AC charging, puddle lights, ambient lighting, 13 speaker stereo with subwoofer, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, memory electric and heated seats with lumbar support, ski hatch, rear seat armrests with cup holders, and no the batteries are not the same size. I’m comparing all models except the base model. In other words the Launch addition, premium and Brabus versions. Also towing capacity 800kg or 1,600kW with a braked trailer. These cars are almost the same price but the Smart is worth €10k more with its packed features. Coming shortly in the next OTA update.. The following features have been optimized or fixed in this OTA: 01 Improved frequency of traffic announcements via radio 02 Enhanced CarPlay system stability 03 Upgraded trailer hitch module 04 Fixed error for scheduled charging 05 Enhanced energy recovery management 06 Improved ESP function 07 Updated vehicle safety protocols 08 Stabilized automatic headlight functions 09 Fixed error in valet mode. 01 Enable low energy regeneration 02 Add simulation sounds and sound effect modes 03 smart companion Plus V2L
My EX30 twin motor Ultra has 22kw AC, puddle lights, ambient lights, 9 speaker stereo with subwoofer in the boot, memory electric heated seats with lumbar support and heated steering wheel and Android Auto and CarPlay are coming and can also tow 1600kg.
Maybe avoid words like Childish and Grown-up next time in your review. If Smart sees your video and they probably will wonder if you'll ever get another car from them or get invited to any of their events due to that. If you want to do this properly as in a TH-cam reviewer as your profession(ie: Press) then you'll need to look at vocabulary of car reviewers, just saying.
I own a Smart #3 and also think the main page is childish. Instead of all the real estate given to those graphics they could have place fast links to desirable options, such as disabling all the mandated warnings for speed. Otherwise a great car.
I’m an Android phone user from its inception so I 100% prefer the interface of the EX30 but it’s not perfect. However I also don’t dislike the that of the #1.

Excellent videos! Keep up the good work!
The Smart #1 gets less publicity than the Volvo but is a much better choice.
hahahahaha
Love our EX30 twin motor performance in the Ultra trim.
Too bad they don't sell the Smart #1 in North America! Thanks for the video 🙂

Volvo is so much more car and nothing is missing what Smart could offer.

Smart simply looks wierd

Not true
