    So many people are calling him a fraud, and faking the guitar playing. He admits to using a hand double for the solo, but he did actually play most of the song in the scene. Awesome dedication to the character.

      All the while it is standard in movie productions for the actors to be using doubles for instruments, or oftentimes straight up not caring about looking the part, and just having the actors doing the equivalent of a cat screeching on said instruments while some sweet melody is mixed in. Like... dude, at least he actually plays guitar, and knows the song.

      there's a DND theory about vecna having a general betray him so there's speculation Eddie may return in such a manner. no guarantees, but still hopeful!

    • @longlost3286

    • @Navajonkee
      @Navajonkee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      @@longlost3286 But this isn't Vecna, not even remotely. Stranger Things tends to borrow the names of DnD characters for their monsters, but that's where the similarities end. I wouldn't bet on them incorporating actual DnD lore into the show.

      @@Navajonkee I mean they kinda have in some aspects, 001 essentially went from being a human (like DND Vecna) to becoming a god. The Mind Flayer in ST also had powerful psychic abilities, like the Mind Flayer in DND. He did play and film the scene himself in the show which was really awesome (it wasn’t a live performance obviously and the actual track was recorded), but they also had a very talented kid to double for him named Aidan Fisher for the solo part, so basically the fingers we saw during the close up shots was his double. • @SpaghettiYOLOKingTTV
      @SpaghettiYOLOKingTTV 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      I definitely caught on to the genius song choice. But things going over people's heads never surprise me. Even with the Duffers confirming through very direct words on the aftershow that Vecna is indeed the one behind every Upside Down threat in every season of the show, there are those that either somehow don't connect the dots and still think they're two separate entities because Dustin said Vecna is the Flayer's '5 Star General' or there are those that straight up deny it and even call the reveal lame. It's even been incorrectly labeled as a retcon, which is just wrong because we've never gotten any explanation about the Flayer before outside of HIS (remember, Will always referred to a sentient particle cloud as HE) motivations.
      It's a revelation that makes sense and actually makes Vecna a monster even more because he enslaved all life in the Upside Down. They said there's more to be revealed, which I'm sure will have a surprise or two. But I don't see anything changing the fact that since day 1, Vecna has been the mastermind all along and he's just been playing chess, making move after move after move through every season, always having another plan already in motion if one fails.
      Season 5 should be a slam dunk. If they somehow botch and fumble the final season, I'd be thoroughly shocked. I'd hate to see this show suffer the same fate as GoT and become nothing more than a distant memory with a sour taste instead of being a show/story that's talked about with reverence.

The man isn't a pro guitarist and never claimed to be, he's an actor who happened to play some guitar as a kid and bought a guitar specifically to learn MOP before shooting to have a go at it. That's not an easy thing to do especially when he's also got to focus on building his character and acting at the same time as playing. This dude is awesome for even attempting it and he did a solid job when most actors would have asked for a double to play the whole thing. You can tell how extremely important his character was to him and how insanely dedicated someone must be to learn a whole new skill just for one scene, like this is something not everyone gets to experience in their lives and lots of people would die to be able to play a role as memorable as Eddie.
    I don't think Joseph realises how extremely lucky he is to have the opportunity to be cast and to have a role in a show as successful as Stranger Things, As we know, Joseph/Eddie was only just introduced into ST in season 4 and may or may not come back for season 5.
    ~~~~~~||||SPOILERS/THEORY WARNING - PROCEED WITH CAUTION||||~~~~~~
    Many of us know, Eddie was 'killed' in episode 9 by Vecnas bats, I read somewhere that The Duffer Brother said 'Vecnas bats cant kill'. At this stage I'm unsure how true that is, Dustin also did not check for a pulse so Eddie could possibly still be alive.
    Kas is a vampire and Vecna's top lieutenant. He wielded the Sword of Kas, a sentient black longsword that convinced Kas to betray Vecna in an attempt to usurp his power. Their explosive battle led to Vecna losing his eye and hand.
    If you look at a full body image of Vecna, you can see his left hand is the hand he uses to kill/possess his victims, maybe while Eleven and Vecna are having a big battle, Vecna almost kills El and Eddie rises up from the ground with full armour, shield and The Sword of Kas to betray Vecna just like Kas did.
    While El is seconds from death, the fight between Eddie and Vecna comes to a close end with Eddie cutting off Vecnas left hand so he is unable to kill any more people, Vecna becomes enraged by Eddie's act of heroism and tries to kill him once more failing to do so...why? Eleven, close to death, kills Vecna, not only lifting his curse but unfortunately sacrificing herself to do so.
    Will confesses to Mike (you know the rest)
    Eddie (now alive) escaped The Upside Down looking back at El and Vecna burning up in a firey pit :)
    Ok, a bit of objectivity here.
    For the people criticizing him, this is likely when he was learning to play the song. You can tell he's struggling with it. His guitar is definitely out of tune, and he hasn't learned it fully here yet. But he is playing it and not miming. You can hear his guitar the whole time, mistakes and all. I'm sure he got it much more polished after this. The fact that he's doing the downpicking properly shows how committed he is.
    For the people worshipping him over this, it's not as great as you're acting like it is in this video. He's clearly just learning the song and getting comfortable with it. He's not "killing it" here, nor does he have to for it to be awesome. This run through is full of mistakes, but like I said, he's learning it here and I fully believe he had it down much better after this.
    Either way, it's super cool that he learned it and played it properly in the scene. I immediately noticed that he was playing it right in the show and that made a huge difference to me as a musician. I really admire him for that, no matter how great of a guitar player he is. Most people would chicken out. He fully committed to it and the result is one of the most iconic scenes in TV history.
      I think a lot of people don't realize how unusual it is for someone to be an actor of that caliber AND be able to play guitar at this level. Metallica isn't the easiest stuff to play.     I will never forget Munson The Banished for as long as I live 🤘🏼🖤 Thank you Joseph Quinn, for not only dedicating quite a lot of time to practicing this song on guitar for one of the coolest and most metal scenes to have ever metal'd, but for showing us the sweeter, sensitive, more innocent side that a majority of these people (at least in my experience) have. Some of the most empathetic people I've ever met were Metalheads that genuinely care about other people's well-being and safety. Society likes to outcast anything and anyone they deem unorthodox, even based off of appearances alone. If you're different and you stray from what's expected of you, especially your appearance, you're considered bad and shunned for it... Society always does that, dehumanizing and discarding people that "don't fit the perfect mold". Thank you, for helping in continuing to push the agenda further that everyone should just be themselves, never change to fit that mold, do what's right, and make sure you're having a good time doing it, because society will find a reason to hate you anyway, so just be who you are and the right people will come 💖
      I told my fiancé the dual riff right after the acoustic part would have been amazing!
    This is a shortened version of the song, for the show I’m guessing?
    Pretty good skills bro! Spot on 👏 you were starting to play on the same style as James Hetfield, too, nice job with the down picking. 👍
    I will say, even though he's only mimicking the song, this is still more devotion to an instrumental scene than 95% of actors out there. I've heard of studios bringing in an musician advisor to make these scenes more realistic, only for them to be ruined by the people doing the editing cutting and pasting different moments of the song than what's actually being heard...
      There are parts he’s actually playing in the serie
      He's not mimicking, the only part of the song he didn't play was the solo and he talked about that
      He was playing on set, but they used a recording for the final edit and a hand double for the solo.
    This is great. I'm sure there are plenty who are pointing out the mistakes because keyboard warriors are a cancer that infects everything, but this is someone who clearly plays the instrument and has played the song before, but it's not a song he regularly plays, or else it's just been a long time since he did. He obviously knows the fingerings, he's playing with nothing but down strokes, etc. It's an 8 minute song. Metallica's music isn't the most technically difficult stuff out there, especially in metal, but it's not the easiest stuff ever, especially their earlier stuff.
    tl;dr: This kicks ass and I'm glad the actor actually played along instead of faking it like a lot of others would have had to do.
      Pointing out mistakes doesn't make someone a keyboard warrior lmao. That's about the equivalent as saying "if someone doesn't agree with you, they are a racist"
      He's faking it. Look at 0:30, he literally misses the queue to play the higher notes.
    Joseph Quinn looks like that one therapist who you find just learning and being a master in martial arts and calling it “a hobby”. A calm pleasant face with hands just dropping fire beats
    Major props for him practicing to do this for real dude. Playing a metallica song isnt something you can just try for fun, thats master level shit! Even with the mistakes it's still an insane feat. He said he had experience playing before but hadn't touched a guitar in years, but went out to buy one as soon as he got the part. Amazing work and dedication Joseph
    I don't wanna be that guy, but he's playing this wrong.
    Like the actual sound coming from his guitar is 90% wrong notes
    Y'all are listening to the Metallica backing track as if that's what he playing
    Again I don't wanna be that guy but he hits like 1 in every 10 notes
