What you call the grapple is actually called the thumb

ahh yea... I can see the controls are backwards compared to my deere. The boom and stick are opposite controls... The left hand joystick controls the stick and the right hand controls the boom and bucket

Just take a few lessons from Chris on ( Let's Dig 18 ) he can do just about anything in an Excavator. For a novice you did fine, smoothness comes with experience when you run these. All good, great video as usual thanks for making it!

For a while, Chris had a little friendly rivalry going with Jason (Vantagetes). It's fun to watch them go back and forth between videos. The two couldn't be more polar opposites, but they're both good guys to follow.

    T. H. U. M. B. Good job. JD machine controls are notoriously basakwards from everybody else. Tim @cotontop3 has mentioned that several times on his channel.

I’m only 13 but my family is in construction and operating and excavator to me is like operating my right arm. I actually find back hoe controls a little weirder because although I run them some I’m more used to excavators and skid steers than any other pieces of equipment

Nice video, Travis. Wow, what a smooth operation of the machine. It looked easy enough to learn how to operate. I've always heard that that thing you called a grapple is actually called a thumb. But grapple works too. I watched you operate it on Ryan's channel useing the thumb and you were running like a old pro. Great video Travis!!! See you tomorrow....

For us, a (larger) excavator is very important. We use them to trim trees, push trees, dig ditches, and clear land. I swear they are so handy

I trained on a CAT excavator several years back, and about half way through our training they said we could switch the machine from CAT to JD controls, and everyone of us almost broke stuff trying to work it in JD. Why for anything reasonable JD would have their controls work the exact opposite of what you want the boom and bucket to do. CAT, you want to reach out, you push out on the joy stick, JD you pull in to reach out... JD was drunk, or just figured there was no way they'd do what CAT was doing... lol

I liked your video of the culvert replacement better because you explained how the machine worked. No disrespect to Ryan. Just my opinion.

Nice job... we rented one when I was doing the site prep and water lines and stuff for my parent's new mobile home at Shiner about 5 years ago... handiest thing since sliced bread. I'd never run an excavator of any type before, nor even a backhoe, but I hopped into the thing and within an hour I was flying with it... once you get used to the feel of the controls it's easy and quick! Did a LOT of trenching and backfilling and the little stabilizer blade on the front is really good for that part of the job too...
Only thing is, those mini-ex's are handy as heck for trenching jobs, but if you're trying to do a lot of major work like land reclamation or digging out stumps or moving a lot of Earth, you're better off with a bigger machine... I tried digging out a roughly 1 foot diameter tree stump that I had cut off about 4 feet high, which I planned to push over with the front end loader on the 70 horse Ford tractor, but which it wouldn't budge. I dug out all the way around it, popped as many roots as I could with the bucket, but she just wouldn't budge, even using the leverage of the tall stump. Dad was worried I'd break something on the rental machine and told me to quit... let the stump dry a few months and the roots rot and then easily knocked it over with the tractor and loader...
    Later! OL J R :)

I don't know if I should do this, but I will anyways. You should check out the channel called " The Dirt Ninja". If you'd like to watch a good guy and his machine. He does some good tricks with it.

You would love it moving back and taking out hedge rows also. Called a thumb but grapple works for me me. We don't need to be that technical.

That looks very similar to the one you showed in a video last year. It looks like a very handy machine for jobs like this. I'll probably never operate one in my lifetime, but it's pretty cool to see when someone learns how. Regarding the controls, I've heard there are multiple ways to set them up, and much of that depends on the brand of excavator (Cat vs. Deere, etc.) and operator preference. It's fascinating to watch how someone's hand movements on the controls translate to the operation of the swing, boom, stick, bucket, and thumb (when equipped). There are some channels like LetsDig18 (who has collaborated with Cotontop3) and Vantagetes (from western Canada) who do this stuff all day long on much bigger equipment. Thanks for the video!

Think this is one of the first videos of Ryan's I watched. Switching controls is nice. Once you get use to one its hard to switch back.

Your pop can comment reminded me of a challenge they had years ago at the county show involving a mini digger and an egg I think they had to pick the egg up and set in in an egg cup all I really can remember of it is that it was a baking hot day which with smeared raw egg caused a really foul smell but the hire company's demonstrator did it not only with the mini digger but with a 15-20ton excavator.
Glad to see you had better luck than us, we needed a new drain put in so my uncle who has a digger came and put one in and the first scoop hit an old once galvanised water main that served our two neighbours.

Bunch of stumps could be dug out. Over in the field where Ryan took the Rhino there's some old trees as well. Shoot even some big rocks too big to dig out by hand as well.

BigAndy Hatton that is what we did at college every year when we covered fixing ploughs or the plant guys worked on the digger we would go to clear a derelict area which basically involved digging holes and filling them in

Milky bar dairies that's what i just saw you are right I have owned 3 and back hoe s also I can't run them fast in backhoe mode and your rowing the boat as my grandfather would sayboth hands forward both hands back and that's what he has going on backhoe mode one goes back and one goes forward

    • @jwhitley101whitleyfarms9
      @jwhitley101whitleyfarms9 6 ปีที่แล้ว

mcleanfarm that's the only way I can go fast our old backhoe I always let my grandfather run it cause it took me all day to do a little but on the track hoe setting I can pick pull grade at full speed its just so much easier in my opinion
