How To Catch Huge Slab Crappie

- Today we're catching Slab Crappie on swimbaits, hair jigs, and finesse plastics. If you want to catch bigger crappie, these tips are what you've been looking for. Crappie are abundant but anyone who fishes for them regularly knows how temperamental they can be. Some crappie gear works remarkably well but a lot of it is unrefined. By making a few quick changes you can take your crappie fishing to a whole new level.
For years bass fishermen have known the power of Keitech swimbaits and hair jigs for bass. By applying these same refined lures to Crappie, anglers can increase their catch rates and typically increase the size of catch as well. We tend to use heavier heads than traditional crappie fishing in order to get the correct action out of the lures. The heavier weights also allow us to use light bass tackle.

We don't have lots of huge crappie here but we do have significant numbers. The 3 largest that I have ever caught, all over a pound, came while bass fishing - one was flipping cover, one on a jerkbait, and the last on a 2.5 squarebill. You just never know what you're gonna catch on bass tackle sometimes. Enjoyed the video!
My best time for catching big crappie is in the winter. Seems like the colder it gets the bigger the size I catch. Great vid guys!!

Avid crappie fisherman here and I love watching your crappie videos. What lake are you fishing? Also just to expand on your tip about using bass lures to catch crappie, I use a 1/2 oz spinnerbait late in the spawn on my home lake and catch some slabs on them.

Did the same at Pickwick, bass were not biting but I caught a giant shell cracker on a drop shot. Me and my 14 yr old stayed there and caught 30 of them for the frying pan. 1 of the most enjoyable days we've had.

I only get an opportunity to go fishing once a year in clear lake it's a two family tradition now for the past 4 years where are some good areas to go crappie fishing. We usually do lakeside county park. Thanks for the video

That happened to a friend on T-Bend, out crappie fishing with his elderly dad, and a 10 lber got his crappy got stuck with the hook wore himself out dragging the cane pole around as he chased him down in his dad's little aluminum boat, with only a scullilng paddle. But when they finally caught up got the pole back, got the bass and a very ragged small crappy.
Lol this happened at CL to me. Wasn't the only teener chasing it either! It was insane

Hey Matt and Tim, what do you guys think about eating those crappie out of Clear Lake? Would you risk it?
In the spring when crappie spawn on the Rocky banks take a one inch gulp minnow and drop it down on a tiny jighead and smack the lure against the rocks they're spawning on, but not on the bed and you'll get slammed 9/10 times
How did you find the school of crappie? On the fish finder? Did you have a pretty good idea of where they would be, or just troll around until you see something?

I was out yesterday and i decided to throw a Duel Hardcore 65 size jerkbait while my wife was throwing your typical slip bobber set up with one of my prototype jigs and the zeropod from Zero-Baits.com we did really well and i have to agree on using light bass tackle. But that being said i'm still searching for the larger fish in my lake.
