I agree with Tasha, this made my project management studies, currently the focus is on quality management, a lot easier! My previous 2 sources hadn't clarified well either. Thank you!!

I found that very helpful as an easy example to figure SIPOC and helped me figure out a more complicated one thank you for doing it

Why you ranked smoothy requester as supplier not as customer

It's because the 'Smoothy Requester' supplied the first input, the 'Smoothy Request' or order that kicks off the process. It's common for the same entity to be both supplier and customer - think 'customer-owned material' or data used in the process.

What seem to be forgotten in this example is that there are very important external customers, THE LAW! There are so many requirements to input and output. SIPOC tries to understand what are the requirements for the input, and the requirements for the output. Those who are specialized in these topcis need to be involved in creating or reviewing a process.
The requirements for input and output need to be 'measurable'. Essential part of SIPOC. You can name the input (spinach), but what are the requirements of that input? Red spinach? Green spinach? Fresh or from the freezer?
It's all about creating awareness that you need to make agreements with your suppliers and customers about the requirements.

SIPOC is a tool used for creating a boundries of the project. You dont always have to include all customers, suppliers or inputs within SIPOC if your employer dont want you to take it in the DMAIC project.
In fact there can be only a client in Customers.
You can use SIPOC as a definition what to focus on this time :)
