Twitch Ads directly drive me off the platform every time. They are intrusive, rude, loud and obnoxious. Never mind the fact that if you accidentally refresh a stream you can get hit with 5 minutes of unskippable ads.

I write this from a small content creators perspective. When I streamed on Twitch I had around 350 to 400 each stream. Since moving to TH-cam 3 months ago I average between 30 to 50. The platform has a terrible user experience with next to no integrations and those it does have rarely work. Its worst for discoverability. I have been told by viewers on multiple times that my stream doesn't even show in the category I am streaming to. The reason I feel compelled to write this is the larger streamers who move across do not rely on the discoverability that us mere mortals at the lower end depend on. Grass roots streaming on TH-cam is not a thing. I just thought some people may find that useful. Sorry for the epic amounts of text!!

There NEEDS to be a separate TH-cam Streaming app. They can connect it however they want to the original app, getting advice from creators and advertisers.
It is just WAY WAY WAY too hard to do TH-cam long form videos, shorts, community posts and streaming all on the one app and have it a good navigation experience. I don't see how it will ever be possible. Especially because if people are watching a stream and get bored, there is fully made, creative, edited, fast paced videos that are much more attention grabbing literally on the exact same page. Just have a separate, CONNECTED TH-cam brand app for streaming, it will fix majority of the issues (once you get all the channels and their connections with the OG app perfected).

    - Schedule your stream beforehand, people can get a reminder when its live to all their devices
    - Put up a video and advertise your stream (link the stream)
    - Use community posts, they work (polls, whatever)
    - Shorts are stupidly pushed at the moment so put a few up with sampler content to drive people to your channel

The TH-cam player being able to pause/catch up on live streams is an absolute game changer to me and dwarfs any of the benefits of twitch. I also find it pretty easy to find the creators I already follow as they just appear in the subscription feed if they are live. To Ludwig’s point about community - I entered the song contest mentioned in the video. This guy had 144 people enter the song contest and for the sake of the time, had his moderators make a cut to 32 songs. This was an unpopular decision with those that had entered the contest and didn’t make the cut because everyone assumed the songs would at least be played on stream making the hours of work worth it no matter the result.
This got a little bit of negative attention in his Reddit but he could have kept it the way it was and it would have blew over in a week.
BUT! To make about 100 people in his community happy, he decided to listen to every song entered ON STREAM. I had other contestants blowing me up on discord about what was happening and it was a super exciting moment for all of us.

Personally speaking, I've never watched Lud more than since he switched to TH-cam (if that makes any sense), mainly because I live in a part of the world where people usually stream when it's nighttime or early morning for me, and at those times, I'm not gonna get up from my comfort to boot up the PC just to watch a stream, and because the twitch mobile experience is GARBAGE(!!), watching his streams on TH-cam now, is much easier and smoother, I don't really care about emotes or community interaction, I just put it on, and if it's something interesting enough, I'll stick around, if it's not, either I go to bed or get up to start my day...
Also, the VOD watching experience on TH-cam, is MUCH smoother than it is on twitch, whether it's browser or mobile! watching VODs on mobile actually PISSES ME OFF, so I never go on there for past streams, so I basically almost never watch anything on twitch unless I go out of my way and make time for a planned stream or something.... and even those i can't catch nowadays.
So yeah, personally, I'm really starting to hate using twitch in general, but I guess SOME people I keep up with are still there I guess I'll still go on it every now and then **shrug**

twitch chat has its positives for sure. the streamers switching over still engage with their chat but even when they were on twitch they more and more relied on themselves for content.
They’re not like mizkif who are able to go hours on end with literally just their chat. And they don’t need to since they have to stream less hours. And I haven’t seen a yt streamer who didn’t use that for making more quality content on stream or videos.

I think that before making the switch from Twitch to TH-cam, a streamer must first and foremost ask the question of, "why am I switching?" They should consider what the TH-cam platform is. It is a bunch of videos made by people/content creators. As a streamer you will have to compete with these people. If all you do is stream? Then don't make the switch, you're better off on Twitch. If you make videos? Like have an editor or you are your editor that makes compilation videos or what you stream turns into a video or if you record videos yourself. Then make the switch.
XQC is what I would deem as a prime example, all he does is stream. He doesn't edit videos and upload them to TH-cam or records a video for the expressed purpose to upload it to TH-cam later, he just streams. He should stay on Twitch. While on the other hand, Ludwig. He hits record and makes videos for the express intent to upload them onto TH-cam. He made the switch and he is able to do more because of it. The intention of the switch should determine if you do. No intention to make videos, then don't. Intention to make videos, then do.

I love getting to rewind a little bit to catch something I missed, and then if there’s a lul and I want to skip back ahead I can. If I go back 10 seconds or so then there’s no delay in chat and I like that

Twitch experience outside the us and other main countries is really intresting
I stay in the middle east and I do not speak the language at all. Twitch dosent show ads thankfully for some reason over here, but that means people dont have a reason to subscribe to you unless you offer them something else (Discord Roles, access to videos bfre they are posted, community nights, you name it)
As an english speaking streamer that goes live when everyone goes to sleep, I expected to have no one watch me
but somehow the malaysian community found me
I am extremely grateful that it happened, but the fact that I am 4 hours behind them and they still watch me is baffling to me.
Ive expected the Middle east or european audience to be my core but I got lucky
what I wanted to say was,
when some of the core problems with twitch (ads being intrusive) are no longer a problem, it makes it so that creators have to get, well... creative and for those communities to move over to youtube in the future, it would mean that twitch needs to screw up even more than what they already have done.
the next few years is going to be intresting to observe

One thing not talked about a great deal is the impact that Vtubers have on TH-cam streaming. To this day they still have some of the most watched TH-cam streams ever. There are hundreds of thousands of people watching vtubers during any given hour of the day and more of those channels are moving over to TH-cam. Hololive and Nijisanji especially have been rapidly growing in the youtube live streaming sphere. Now that Twitch has gotten rid of the forced exclusivity even more have jumped to youtube.

I get youtube's hesitation. Every time over the last 15 years that they've ever made a change to the website we've called it stupid. And that's because everyone of those changes was fucking stupid. But, this time they need to change something. An overhaul of organizing this site as the media library it's going to be. Livestreams, Shorts, Videos, Movies/TV, all orgnaized in their own places with fully fledges features for each. Keep the community aspects strong. I'm always in favor of giving back the old creative options for channels. Let us have myspace pages that play ska music. It could be a social media platform all about sharing media. It'd be a big swing but if they pulled it off they'd have youtube set to be damn near be a public utility

    • @degmsp9529
      @degmsp9529 ปีที่แล้ว +10

it'd be amazing if they brought back the ability to customize the whole channel page again, but it's doubtful any social media would return to that "early web 2.0" style. the main issue is just how much people use phones/tablets. big social media sites want it to be the same experience on mobile as it is on desktop (which is why we have for example, twitter mobile for desktop essentially. remember when you could customize your background on twitter, and it'd apply on the homepage??)
i definitely agree that organization needs to be improved for all methods of accessing youtube. i hate clicking on a channel and seeing so many shorts - and when clicking on one, scrolling down for the next one gives you just a random short instead of the next one for that channel.

I personally would LOVE to have that kind of organization, but right now, youtube remains a video-focused site.

Viewership really doesn't matter via you are live or off-line... you can go live, then after it's live you can still get views... or make a video and still get viewers... that's the beauty of TH-cam it's 24/7 and you don't have to be on TH-cam live! You can make the bag while sleeping! lol What Ludz said is true, you have more time to create and grow your community for your fans and add different channels for more content about different subjects, part of your own eco-system!

Twitch atm is really shooting themselves in the foot right now with not enforcing their own rules. Atm twitch are killing themselves so much faster. So its not when are they going die, its when is 1 going to die because the viewership will just migrate to the one that is alive.

As someone in a European time zone, watching vods is way easier on YT. Because most of the streamers I watch live in the US, they’re all 6-9 hours behind me. That means I can’t ever watch them live without having to stay up all night.
I will say that the chatting function is way worse on YT, but that doesn’t effect me much because I end up watching the vods anyway 🤷‍♀️
I didn’t watch streams before people started coming to YT. I only watch one person on Twitch (who gets an average of 20-25 viewers, so not anybody huge 😅)

I feel like a current issue with Truffle, at least for me, is that the settings to change certain things like color (which is an option i really like on twitch.) seem to be non-intuitive or non-existent in the settings. There are a few other things that seem to be missing as well but i don't remember what those things are off the top of my head, hopefully somebody else could add more to what i'm talking about. I also think it should be an option whether to see the pig icon within youtube, possibly even what it looks like and where it is from a list of options would be very nice.
