- The sanctuary of the Madonna della Corona is located in the district of Spiazzi in the municipality of Ferrara di Monte Baldo, in the province and diocese of Verona, in a hollow excavated in Monte Baldo.
In the 15th century it was a hermitage: the first church was inaugurated in 1530, after the visit of the bishop Gian Matteo Giberti. It became a sanctuary in 1625, when the knights of Malta had the church rebuilt, which was then completed in 1680.
At the beginning the sanctuary was known with the name of "Santa Maria di Montebaldo". In 1898 it was decided to extend it by about two meters towards the square in front; so it was that in 1899 the facade was rebuilt in the Gothic style and decorated with marble from Sant'Ambrogio. In 1928 some adjustments were made to the main altar in the niche of the Madonna. In the Holy Year 1975 works began for the renovation of the church, it was dug into the rock to expand it: from 220 square meters it went to 600 square meters, it is now 30 meters long and 20 meters wide and its dome is 18 meters high. The six Veronese bells, in the key of B major, were cast in 1884.
The sanctuary was consecrated on June 4, 1978, the completion of the renovation was done in honor of the visit of Pope John Paul II on April 17, 1988 (in July 1982 the same pope had elevated the sanctuary to the dignity of a minor basilica).
While once it was accessed only through a climb of 1614 steps from the village of Brentino in Vallagarina, today the sanctuary can also be reached via an asphalted road that starts near the village of Spiazzi and ends with a tunnel dug into the rock in 1922, where a painting depicting the Madonna is exhibited.
This road can only be traveled on foot; along the way there are the fourteen stations of the Via Crucis in bronze statues and the sepulcher where Jesus was placed after his death is reproduced.
The sanctuary is the end point of the so-called Path of the two Sanctuaries, which begins in the sanctuary of the Pieve di Chiampo, crosses seven valleys of the Venetian Pre-Alps and arrives at the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Corona.
Inside the sanctuary there is the Scala Santa, a reproduction of the staircase found in Rome near the basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano: it is the ladder where Jesus went up and down several times on the day he was scourged, crowned with thorns and condemned to death on the cross, thus staining it with his blood.

È possibile salire a piedi e scendere di autobus o uber? Belíssimo vídeo. Congratulazione. Vorrei fare questa escursione
Ci sono 2 percorsi a piedi, uno che parte dal basso e uno che dall’hotel scende fino al santuario. Questo secondo percorso si può anche fare con bus che parte dall’hotel e porta giù fino alla galleria prima del santuario e poi ritorno, poi da lì saranno solo 200 metri di camminata. Alla fine c’è una scalinata da fare, ma c’è anche un ascensore volendo. Ciao!
