We just bought a 2018 cx9 in Deep Crystal Blue colour. Couldn't be happier!! The features it offers for it's price point is awesome. Mazda is doing a great job!
I just bought a 2018 Mazda cx-9 and love it I am 56 and even the passenger side has lumbar support. I have heard folks talking them down but I hope mine was made on a wed or thurday.
I went to this years auto show and let me tell you, I looked at the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Toyota Highlander, the VW Atlas, Ford Explorer, Nissan Murano and the Mazda CX-9 was by far the best. I drive a BMW X3 and I’m looking for something bigger while keeping the premium driving experience with or spending too much and the Mazda CX-9 is the best option so far. Not to mention I test drove it and it has a ton of torque, feels like a sports vehicle.
I have a 17 mazda3 and I have never used the touch screen. The controls in middle are much easier to use. People won't know how annoying a touchscreen truly is until they get this system.
Great video and you captured the traffic sign recognition in action during your Drive! You missed mentioning the lane keep assist that nudges the steering back into the lane when the lane departure warning is activated. As well, the neat hidden storage under the rear cargo floor. Great video though!
I was with some of my family today, as we left the park we were hanging out at we got the parking lot and I saw this exact cx-9 in red and we couldnt get over how nice it looked, definitely looks nice like a European luxury suv. I think I might trade in my speed 3 one of these days when I find a good deal.
Pretty good review. Well done, again, Dave :) The part where you showed to us the heads-up display was brilliant. And if I was on the market for a new car this is what will make me buy the CX-9.
This is the reason why I live Everyman driver! 😁He spends lots of time on a car and made a video about it.....not like some other car channels only drive a few hour and give opinions 🤔
Good review, I just wish a lot more car based channels did SUV/Crossover videos. I'm a big guy and I'm not comfortable in small cars. I'm an SUV guy all the way.
Actually that's not true. I own and Ford fiesta 2011 and it's the saddest thing ever to have no oh blank handles. It's one of the things I look at when I look at cars now. When you don't have it and you want, it's very important
Hoping to get one of these this Year, trading in my 2015 Avalon since the Family has grown the Avalon doesn’t do it for us anymore, would like a Highlander, but for the money I think you get more with Mazda, and that’s saying a lot, I drive nothing but Toyota since 2000, great review!
Great video again Dave. Have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised that it was a finalist for Car of the Year. Think that the CX-5 was more deserving. Just sayin' ...
What concerns me is a 4 cylinder turbo for the size of the vehicle. Wouldn't that be alot of stress for the engine and transmission over the long term?
Would you recommend this over VW Atlas? We’re in the market for a family suv, cx9 looks much nicer than the atlas, but atlas offers a 7year, 70k warranty.
Hi. Is there any differences between the years of 2016-2018 Mazda CX-9 and model CX-5 for beginners drivers that you would recommend best? For safety, reliable, last longer and etc? I'm between two brands used midsized SUV Nissan Murano and Mazda CX-5 or CX-9, which years are the best to choose that last longer than just 4 yrs?
On a vehicle of that size, I am not excited by a four-banger engine. I know, you want to lecture me on it is not about engine size. But, sometimes it is. I know the bhp and torque numbers are sufficient to move this car along at a clip. However, in my opinion, those four cylinders are going to be working hard. A couple of extra buddy cylinders would sure help. And, would gas mileage real suffer all that much with an efficient six-cylinder?
I have seen quite a few of Ur videos. I really love them! Great reviews!! But, I wanna know, whats up with the "oblank" handles??? Why do u call it so?
I love the redesign of this vehicle. My only gripe, like a lot of people, is that engine. I'm not against turbo engines, I actually welcome it in a Mazda as this is brand known for speed and performance. I just think that the turbo should have been optional and the V6 as standard but revised to about 305 HP. It would make the CX-9 more competitive, though I'm aware that the V6 AWD versions would be more expensive, especially with added options. I can only imagine the cost of a CX-9 Signature AWD with the V6 BEFORE destination charges. Oh well, I still wanna test drive this one for the hell of it!
Another Great review Dave! How's the knee room for the driver? I am 6'-3" and my wife's Nissan Rogue irritates the crap out of me, banging my (replaced) right knee and the seating is back all the way and at best it's for a 5'-10" driver.
Dave, this is the first video of your I've watched. I am curious why you emphasized the four "oh blank handles", don't most, if not all vehicles in that class have four handles? Thanks for the nice video.
Hey Dave, I've always loved your reviews. I subbed when you did the Kia Sorento and loved the road trip you took in it. I wish you would have highlighted more of the differences between the 2017 and 2018. 1. They have finally added front parking sensors 2. Added heated steering wheel 2. Heated second row seats. Now all I have to do is wait for mazda to get rid of the ugly black plastic trim and add a 360 view camera to make parking easier. After that they can take my money but until then they will have to go back to the drawing board. No one really takes a $43k plus SUV off road so what's the point of the black plastic trim. That plastic trim will get sun baked or salt stained and thus make the cx-9 age faster. Come on mazda, it's not that hard to paint plastic trims. Keeps up the good work Dave, ps all that biking, running, and CrossFit is paying off cause your calves look like they are ready to take over the world.
Bonsi, you realize EVERY crossover in this segment as well as all compacts have the unpainted grey (not black) trim. There's only one with painted ones, the top line Sorento. I have a grey CX-9 and the trim matches nicely but I do get that it's not so great looking on lighter colors. Only point is every company does it, not just Mazda.
Did you get the 2017 CX-9? I wish they had added front parking sensors to it. Anywho you are absolutely right about the unpainted grey, I know that Mazda was trying to move more into an upscale market so I would think they would want to get rid of all the stuff that kind of make the car look cheap or age quickly. I hope you got the HUD, its amazing and I think its way better than some $65K cars like the Volvo XC-90. The Kia Sorento has fully painted body panels in the top of the line SXL model but Mazda does not offer it in the top of the light Signature model. hmmmmm
I am so happy for you. I think its a fantastic car and the mpg is out of this world. I think the 4 cylinder turbo is enough for the way everyone drives these days. We have the 2017 grand touring with the hud as a company vehicle that I helped them purchase but it got crashed in the front in a parking lot because of no front parking sensors. The led headlights are also so soma zing, I love how the day time running lights look.
Awesome review (as always!). Just wondering if you have the new my18 Kia Sorento and Kia stinger on the books to review when they are available in the US? Regards from Australia!
You still did not tell us about the third row AC situation . Will the air from the second row vents reach to the third row in a hot day with passengers sitting in each row?
The only way to really cool the back is by using the floor vents so putting the ac on the head and feet setting for the back passengers will get cool air flow to the third row, just make sure your carpet isn’t covering it lol!!
This is not much different than previous reviews other than speaking about the mileage and the headset display. I own this SUV and love it. But one still needs to say a few things about drivability of the. CX9. I still till now don’t like its oversteer where I always feel it pulling sideways and have to correct it and hold on harder to the steering wheel. The entertainment system is great in principal but lacks behind all others. Not much info is given on the screen. If you have the Nav on and want to change stations you have to get out to find what you have on (especially if you don’t remember your last choice) the infotainment needs some serious combo programming by Mazda. Before they put the Apple and Android apps To add third row seats users complain about the AC not being strong enough for them. Another aspect I found out, on hot summer days the AC struggles to keep up and takes a long time to even get the SUV to a close to comfortable temp (Mazda sure missed with the small vents there. Oh yes another big miss, the compass does not give direction once the touch screen unlocks two dashes show instead.
The deal breaker for me is the lack of remote start, especially since the A.C. is less than stellar. I live in Oklahoma where it gets super hot and super cold. I've had remote start in every vehicle since 2007 and can't do without it in 2018 vehicle! I know I can add an aftermarket one for about a hundred dollars but who wants to keep up with two key fobs, especially in a 45,000 dollar vehicle! I love the car and would buy one tomorrow if not for that glaring omission. :(
I wouldn't want to be in the back seat it just doesn't look that safe. Other than that it's a very nice looking car. I'm going to say the Subaru ascent and this one is the best looking ones so far.
Design of the year. How it looks exactly like 2016 except for headlight design. Also vehicle is incomplete when rest of them comes with panoramic sunroof.
Not sure what you're saying. The 2018 is exactly the same design as the 2016, the first year of this model. And while it is subjective, it is the best design in class. Also, pano roofs only come on the top trim of competitors which all cost more than the most expensive CX-9. So 90% of all of them sold don't have the pano roof. And every other model is incomplete for not having the Mazda's driving dynamics, nappa leather, real rosewood, real aluminum, heads up display, best interior and exterior design, etc.
These prop rods are basically deal breakers for me. I think it really cheapens a vehicle and shouldn't be on a $40,000+ vehicle. The viewing screen is hideous and looks like an afterthought, and where is the panoramic sunroof? No Apple car play? And it really should have a V-6, at least as an option.
You won't have many choices if you need hood struts. While I agree they should be on these classes of vehicles, most still don't have them. The infotainment screen is beautiful - much better than the old fashioned in dash screens. No panoramic roof explained a million times. Too much weight strapped to the roof = worse handling. This is a Mazda! Mazda is too small to build a V-6. Even Volvo no longer builds them and they make large luxury vehicles.
Would never want a pano sun roof, gets too hot, a rollover accident and someone’s going out the top, if it breaks (glass shatters) it’s just to dangerous and not necessary. The hood prop, you can get aftermarket that works well and installed easy.
On a vehicle of that size, I am not excited by a four-banger engine. I know it is not about engine size. But, sometimes it is. I know the bhp and torque numbers are sufficient to move this car along at a clip. However, in my opinion, those four cylinders are going to be working hard. A couple of extra buddy cylinders would sure help.
No Panoramic Roof Stand - No Ventilating Seats for Third Seat - Front Cover Not Automatic - No Cameras 360 Degrees - No Sensors to Open Back Cover - Screen is not beautiful - Its price is expensive for its specifications
It's competitors don't drive well, don't look good, don't have heads up displays, don't have real rosewood, don't have nappa leather (except Sorento), don't have nearly the torque. CX-9 is a bargain! Best in class.
Everything you talked about and more than that exists today in Chinese cars and if you talk about torque: I advise you to take BYD TANG WITH 820 NM AND 505 HP JUST $35000
faten, what are you talking about? Chinese cars? This is America. Chinese cars aren't even allowed to be sold here because they suck so bad. Wouldn't pass any American standards. The things I mentioned are against US market competitors.
mack Hasen How do you know it's a bad engine? Do you have any data to support your claim? Have you ever designed and built an engine? What experience do you have as a mechanical engineer?
LOL, it's a bigger 4 turbo than bigger 3 rows have. This has a 2.5 liter, Audi Q7, Volvo XC-90 have 2.0 turbo's. Huge VW Atlas will have 2.0 next year. Heavy Explorer has available 2.3 liter turbo. Are you judging turbo reliability from decades ago? Big difference now. Would Honda go turbo only on the 2nd best selling car in the country if they weren't going to last? Accords standard engine for 2018 is a tiny 1.5 liter turbo. No naturally aspirated engine available.
I used had mazda cx9 3.5 l with 275 hp better then new I did build m5 which bad too I told my buddy dnt put turbo , but he ask me to put bad idea turbo always blow hot air no matter what u driving with turbo sorry for suckers who bought that
We just bought a 2018 cx9 in Deep Crystal Blue colour. Couldn't be happier!! The features it offers for it's price point is awesome. Mazda is doing a great job!
Amrita Amy Congrats! My favorite color in the Mazda lineup. Enjoy!
Just ordered a blue with beige interior today. Can’t wait to pick it up
Joe Krol nice.. We are thinking about the same colors but I cant decide. I wish it had a panoramic sun roof.
Got mine. Couldn't be happier.
Great review Dave. Nice detailed demos and good camera shots. Thanks for the live HUD demo. First reviewer to do that.
I just bought a 2018 Mazda cx-9 and love it I am 56 and even the passenger side has lumbar support. I have heard folks talking them down but I hope mine was made on a wed or thurday.
ncrdisabled Submarine vet : It was made in Japan, so there’s no Monday/Friday work ethic slacking....the Japanese have a work pride beyond reproach...
Ok that slide up sun screen just blew my mind. Damn that's cool.
I went to this years auto show and let me tell you, I looked at the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Toyota Highlander, the VW Atlas, Ford Explorer, Nissan Murano and the Mazda CX-9 was by far the best. To anyone hating on the touchscreen, just take a look at BMW... Mercedes-Benz... Etc
It's a big SUV for a 4 cylinder. I wonder how much room was in the middle
Seats while he was in the back.
I was with some of my family today, as we left the park we were hanging out at we got the parking lot and I saw this exact cx-9 in red and we couldnt get over how nice it looked, definitely looks nice like a European luxury suv. Dave your body is legit!! Good job
Great video Dave - couldn't have explained it better myself
Dave Ericsson....I luv the 4 oblank handles thing u do. Funny as crap. Keep up the excellent work.
Although there's really no need to point them out. Every vehicle built in the last 30 years has 4 grab handles.
Actually that's not true. I own and Ford fiesta 2011 and it's the saddest thing ever to have no oh blank handles. It's one of the things I look at when I look at cars now. When you don't have it and you want, it's very important
I need you to do a Mazda 5 minivan review that's very detailed backup camera is a must for me . On every car now. Please
Hoping to get one of these this Year, trading in my 2015 Avalon since the Family has grown the Avalon doesn’t do it for us anymore, would like a Highlander, but for the money I think you get more with Mazda, and that’s saying a lot, I drive nothing but Toyota since 2000, great review!
coolslc : Mazda makes the best looking of the Japanese cars , plus best driving...I consider Mazda the Japanese BMW.
This was the best review I’ve seen for normal people that are not mechanics, lol.
Legend has it, for every mile Dave puts on a new rig , he runs 5 miles
Great video again Dave. Have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised that it was a finalist for Car of the Year. Think that the CX-5 was more deserving. Just sayin' ...
I think 43,900 is for the signature model.
What concerns me is a 4 cylinder turbo for the size of the vehicle. Wouldn't that be alot of stress for the engine and transmission over the long term?
Alpha Bravo, I doubt the heavier Explorer, Atlas, Traverse, Highlander, XC-90, etc would all have available 4-cyclinder engines if that were the case.
Great Review!! I’m debating between the Mazda CX-9 and that VW Atlas. Which was your favorite?
Would you recommend this over VW Atlas? We’re in the market for a family suv, cx9 looks much nicer than the atlas, but atlas offers a 7year, 70k warranty.
I just got this vehicle so I didn’t have to drive my Mercedes and I LOVE IT !
German Korean and American cars is a trash but morons still purchase them
Hi. Is there any differences between the years of 2016-2018 Mazda CX-9 and model CX-5 for beginners drivers that you would recommend best? For safety, reliable, last longer and etc? Mazda easy.
Dude your calves are scaring me.
DoMN15
Calves scare me too. I was chased by a bull once, it created a phobia in me for anything bovine...true.......😉
lol bro i was thinking the same thing i forgot the car review and was waiting for the workout tips
You've seen that Geico Ad? That's him on the bike?
Very nice.
*Looks like a shark from the side.*
yep, front lights are awesome
Lol.. Yes.. I love it!!!

A. Ayush instead of saying “oh sh!t.”
Dear Sir,
Thank you for your detailed introduction on the latest Mazda CX-9 model. This tube is insightful as well as informative.
Just watched this video to learn how to use my new car. 😂 Thanks for the awesome review!
I love the redesign of this vehicle. My only gripe, like a lot of people, is that engine. Dirk Diggler just for fun. Some do have 3.

Love this new CX-9
I like these new CX-9 but I’m disappointed they didn’t offer a V6 version. Not really a big fan of the turbo charged i4
bKal dipasarin ke indonesia ngga, ngacah euy.. no doubt this is the best SUV of 2018
Awesome review (as always!). Just wondering if you have the new my18 Kia Sorento and Kia stinger on the books to review when they are available in the US?
Regards from Australia!
Can you get these without the third row?
Buy cx70
great review bro!
You still did not tell us about the third row AC situation . Will the air from the second row vents reach to the third row in a hot day with passengers sitting in each row?
I get complaints from third row users and that is coming from kids.
Please don't pass gas back there!
The only way to really cool the back is by using the floor vents so putting the ac on the head and feet setting for the back passengers will get cool air flow to the third row, just make sure your carpet isn’t covering it lol!!
nvamember
Thats ok. Kids arent people. They won't remember when they're older.
Can you review the new 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT sport? Id love to see that
David can u make a car review of a 2017 honda pilot?
I will when I get one... in the meantime, have you checked out my NUMEROUS 2016 Honda Pilot videos?
Everyman Driver i did after i sent my message, i didn't saw it at first, your one of my favorite car youtuber! Keep doing more car reviews! Thanks
It's 250hp if you're using 93 octane, but only 227hp when using 87
it's really about the 310 FT/LB of torque regardless of fuel grade used, but people are used to HP being advertised.
With turbo, the higher the expansion of the fuel (octane rating), the higher is the air flow from the turbo!
Torque wins races, horsepower sells cars...
Can the infotainment display hide in the dash?
No. Its position on the dash is fixed.
does it have an AC outlet?
Yes, two.

Great review.
im 6.2 an when i test drove cx9 it felt like center console was impeding on leg room ..do you feel the same??
I don't, try adjusting the seat?
im talking width.....that cant be adjusted gorgeous...
If you move the seats further back, your legs won't be impeded on. also don't be creepy. lol
it just feels squishy....
I am shorter but fatter...felt the same problem...its going to be a pain in long drives...loved the car though.
I am STILL waiting the Metallic Royal Purple COLOR. PLEASE !!!
Disappointed, I was hoping the topic would focus on what’s the improvement in 2018 model...ie g vectoring control
Invite your friends & family.... CX9 is A full size 7 seater SUV. People buy CX9 more for them Rather for own drive.... good review anyway!
This is not much different than previous reviews other than speaking about the mileage and the headset display. I own this SUV and love it. The deal breaker for me is the lack of remote start, especially since the A.C. is less than stellar. I live in Oklahoma where it gets super hot and super cold. How i can know its 2018 becouse same the 2017 and they change the machines & gear to be better plz show as how we can know its 2018
I wouldn't want to be in the back seat it just doesn't look that safe. Other than that it's a very nice looking car. I'm going to say the Subaru ascent and this one is the best looking ones so far.
The lack of Android Auto really perplexes me! Why even bother with any other Nav system?
A good half of all new vehicles don't have Android Auto. You make it sound like it's a Mazda problem.
Good review.. great awesome vehicle..👌
From Kenya🇰🇪🇰🇪
And I think you look like John Cena 😂😂
?Third row Is there air conditioning
Why is the background music like breaking bad! LoL
@everyman: review Cadillac SRX AWD please
I’m not sure if anyone notices or not but the way he talks looks to me like Mr John Cena
Nope
Lol I’m with u on that
gud am sir, i like all your review... but, can u improve your video quality... tnx
Okay, calves..
hey your car.show.ererymandriver doesn't work
A rod for the hood? Really? Even Mazda's from the 70's had automatic stays.
Club 1 Fan, almost every 3-row in it's class has prop rods.
What's all about the handles? Why do we care about that? What's the need?
Very Nice
There you go again with the I’m 5.11 bro you 5,7

Wtf is a "commadation"?
fire engine...
It's just like a 19 Hyundai Santa Fe...
Sigh, those legs!
Off road it!
MUTHİS BİR MAKİNA AMMA TURKİYEDE COK PAHALİ
Do you even lift? Lol
Drives pretty zippy for a big vehicle
These prop rods are basically deal breakers for me. I think it really cheapens a vehicle and shouldn't be on a $40,000+ vehicle. This suv doesn’t need a v6. It has enough power as is. My dad has one and it has plenty of power

OMG...no hydraulic hood struts? Somebody better burn Mazda's corporate HQ to the ground.
The display was hideous to me, horrible placement.
Much better than in dash which looks old fashioned.
Are you married Dave? please marry me please.
Popeye calves.
No Panoramic Roof Stand - No Ventilating Seats for Third Seat - Front Cover Not Automatic - No Cameras 360 Degrees - No Sensors to Open Back Cover - Screen is not beautiful - Its price is expensive for its specifications
faten altawil Prefect information and notes comes from a girl .. God bless you
It's competitors don't drive well, don't look good, don't have heads up displays, don't have real rosewood, don't have nappa leather (except Sorento), don't have nearly the torque. CX-9 is a bargain! Best in class.
Everything you talked about and more than that exists today in Chinese cars and if you talk about torque:
I advise you to take BYD TANG WITH 820 NM AND 505 HP JUST $35000
faten, what are you talking about? Chinese cars? This is America. Chinese cars aren't even allowed to be sold here because they suck so bad. Wouldn't pass any American standards. The things I mentioned are against US market competitors.
Today China is sweeping, on the whole there is much better than Mazda like volvo xc90 T6 OR T8
very small engine n bad engine because it will blow the turbo , turbo no good
mack Hasen How do you know it's a bad engine?
I used had mazda cx9 3.5 l with 275 hp better then new I did build m5
which bad too I told my buddy dnt put turbo , but he ask me to put
bad idea turbo always blow hot air no matter what u driving with turbo sorry for suckers who bought that
still not agree turbo always blow hot air no matter what u driving
Can't really understand your posts, sorry. If you're taking about the old CX-9, that was a Ford.
