That is exactly and precisely how it is for me, too. Music is the one that triggers my depressing nostalgia because it makes me long with heartache for a time that I know I'll never return to. I hate it.

Susie McCallister exactly the same for me... minecraft was my childhood & i miss the days where i would just come home and play it all evening with my friends.. some of the best times of my life 😔
Nostalgia can be toxic. We like to romanticize the past. Our memories portray a false reality. We too often remember the good whilst forgetting the pains. And the good is depicted as better than it actually was. We are left in a state of melancholy, believing that the past was always more enjoyable than the present moment.
dave genest for me personally this resonates with me as I usually have a lot of self pity for myself in the present. Saying things like "I wish I could go back to the past it was so much nicer" this nostalgia prevents me from seeing the actual negative bad parts from my past and focuses on making the present the worst possible moment. My mind is just negative in that way and I make up pretty much all of the problems I have. I hope that explained it a bit more.
Nostalgia taught me that life isn't that bad than how I thought it to be, it made me remember and see the beautiful moments in my life that I couldn't see before. It makes me appreciate my life even more.
Whenever I get nostalgic I get really depressed but it feels good knowing that I had those great moments in my life that will always be a part of me and in my memory

I've been feeling Nostalgia alot lately, from old music I listened to as a kid, to games I used to play after school, to even the shows I watched and loved.
I think a more weird feeling is when you are happy in moment and realize that it will pass and things wont be the same, Basically feel nostalgic about the present :/
jay fawn Me! As a matter of fact, that's the time that I intensely long to go back to the most. I can't listen to music from that time because it makes me want to break down and cry. I wish it were possible to go back to that time as a child/teenager, but Stephen Hawking says no.
Yep. I remember it with fondness. In reality though lol, Bush was elected, 9/11 happened, the war on terrorism commenced and America went into Iraq for very "questionable" reasons, not to mention all the shitty goddam reality TV shows which dominated the media. But I'm still nostalgic for all those skater/pop-punk bands like Blink- 182 and Sum 41, the garage revival bands like the strokes and the white stripes, the cartoons, and me just being a young kid. Ahhh it's odd this nostalgia thing isn't it?
I hear ya. Late 90s/early 2000s were my jam. It says a lot about the resilience of children and how we could have a great time despite these shoddy things happening. I was in 1st Grade during 9/11. We were sad about it, and we never forgot it, but after maybe two weeks, we were back to smiling on the playground, getting excited about the new live action spider-man movie with Toby Maguire, playing Pokemon, watching Dragon Ball Z, wearing puka shells, and listening to Good Charlotte and Eminem. I think just being a kid with at least a halfway decent childhood at any point in time can trigger nostalgia.
@pannoni4 I'm a millennial, and trust me, we're all the same. Some may like football and some may like vampire diaries, but we're all connected together through pop culture, and the fact that we're all human. And yeah sure, you may at the surface think while watching some DnD geeks how 'niched' their interests are, but the same could be said if you were to watch a group of investment bankers or astrophysicist in 'your' time. I'm sure that that the previous millennia was awesome, by how my father describes his childhood. But I can relate to him sooo much, like yeah there werent phones in that time, or video games, but when he was telling a story of how his friends and he would play under the summer sun, carefree, I relate to it because I too went to my friends' houses to play some ps2. We're weird, but we're your kids. Good day man, and don't let the nostalgia for the past curb the excitement for tomorrow, and for the right now! Cheers!
Nostalgia makes me literally cry...because of that one song i used to hear when i was young...I miss the old times where my grandpa was still alive and the time that I would go to my family and friends almost everyday now I'm just sitting alone thinking about those beautiful memories that will never come back...I think I'll never be able to live such moments in my entire life again...
Last night I dreamed of listening to a song I haven't heard since childhood, but forgot what song it was a few minutes after waking up. It was enough to make me feel extremely nostalgic though, it was such an amazing experience... I've never felt so sad and happy at the same time before.
Armando Hernandez I'm 19. I listened to many songs from 90's and early 2000's when I was young, like "Believe" by Cher and "Nas ne dogonyat" by tatu. What I heard in my dream could one of the more popular songs from that time, I think
Furrik Hmm... Yeah, songs from those eras are really common for other people too, including me. Do you remember anything about the song? Are you sure it was an actual song?

Yeah am not sure how nostalgia doesnt make ppl sad.It makes me sad.I yearn for simpler times of childhood. My father was alive and taking an exam was the biggest worry.
It goes through stages, trust me it usually just happens at night, but eventually you’ll just start getting so stressed out you won’t even have time to feel nostalgic
Sometimes I wish that too, but if you would know that it wouldn't be the same in the future then it's actually better to not know that youre in the good old days.
Same, but I also feel so nostalgic during dawn. That first sunrise with my favorite music and comfort food, just keeps reminding me of my childhood days with my family, especially with my grandparents in the countryside. Away from the bustling noise in the city. It makes me happy and sad to remember the past, but I'm thankful for every moment that I had back then.

It's like a natural high mixed with "Ying & Yang" emotions. The good times and the bad times. I'll feel happiness, depression & regret all rolled into one. Those thoughts of "What if?" or "What could have been?". Feels like Nostalgia hits us the hardest when we reach a certain age & time. When we slow down or stop creating what could be future memories and we fill that void with memories of the past.

I don't know. People who have improved their standard of living significantly from the past do talk about their old lives with fondness. It wasn't always the case but my parents can travel anywhere in the world and eat at any Michelin star restaurants whenever they want to, and they have. But when I ask them what the best food they ever had they say it's the fresh donuts from the donut shop right next to the school they used to go to. The shop is gone of course so I can't say for sure, but if I were to venture a guess the donuts would not be objectively better than the churros we had in Barcelona. Nevertheless my parents still insist that the donut shop by their school made the best food they have ever had.

My nostalgia hits when my best friend from my childhood calls and talks with me. We are both nostalgic. We would talk of the good times living in the apartments ( we were neighbors ), the poor meager meals we had, the hardships we witnessed from our parents having to go through financial woes, about our teen lives and how ridiculous it was to be in our teens at the time. Its good to talk about those memories with someone who was also there. Now we live our lives in our early 30s, he’s married with kids while I’m in a relationship, never married and have no kids. Everyone’s live is different and nostalgia treats you differently. If anything, my nostalgia harder anytime I think of anything I witnessed from 1998-1999.

I find it hilarious when people under thirty say they feel nostalgic, especially for decades they never step foot in. The problem with today’s youth is they live their lives vicariously through the screen of a computer or a phone, so it’s not nostalgia you’re feeling, it’s jealousy and boredom.

That song was "wherever you will go" by The Calling. It's such a romantic song but the lyrics "if I could turn back time" and the way he sings it just got me crying my eyes out thinking of the past.
Recently i started crying because I was remembering a cartoon I used to watch a few years back and I eventually stopped watching it. Actually I came across a verg sad comic related to the cartoon I watched and that just triggered all my past memories, how I used to be so happy in the moment. I never even realised that a day will come when I will stop watching it. The cartoon is Doraemon. I guarantee 99% of the teens from India (my country) have watched Doraemon in their childhood. I'm 16 now and I KNOW it is not that old but idk man I just feel sad always nowadays.
Damn i remember coming home everyday to watch hours of Doraemon and rewatching the same episodes over and over. That was a way of life for me from 2015, when i was 7, up till i was about 11 or 12 in 2019/20. I started to lose interest as the old voice actors went and the “New Doraemon” took over. I watched it sometimes but it was not the same as watching the older(and lower quality) doraemon on tv. Gradually, as i entered my teenage years, my love for it started to lessen and now, i am turning 15 in June. The last time i watched Doraemon was over 6 months ago. But i recently watched an older episode of it and it just refreshed so many memories for me. I wish i could go back to the old times where i watched Doraemon all day and i had no tension of studying 😢
@@ESFilms77 I can relate so hard. I'm just a year older than you (I'll be 16 this year). Newer Doraemon is nice I guess but nothing will match the old doraemon with the og voice actors. Now it's just the opposite,I'm overloaded with stress about my 10th grade board exams. I'm not even done with my syllabus and so many of my friends are and it's stressing me out. Only god help me at this point. I just want to time travel and go back to the time where all I did was watch Doraemon and studying was the side thing lol. Sorry for the rant I said a lot in the flow.

I suffer nostalgia all day long, it began when I started to appreciate things, I was around 8 when it happened to me, its like this deep feeling of sadness in me, it keeps reminding me of "this and that", like how I always wonder if a person living a better life than me has been in this place where I am or has done the same thing I did, It also reminds me of memories I never experienced, I call it my "Nostalgia aesthetic" bc it really has consumed me. I think it started out when I appreciated little things, then the appreciation grew deeper to even the tiniest thing. It feels like a neverending wonder, a neverending wonder of appreciation that is happy, but it brings me sadness or sorrow.
Nostalgia makes me cry sometimes when I'm thinking about it, it feels like it was just yesterday. It's one of the most pleseant and painful things time flies like the speed of light! When were having so much fun all day everyday you forget about time then you realize your almost all grown up and you say "What happened to the old days"? It's so sad to think about 😞😭
I feel it about my childhood, since I was born in 2004, I lived in 1 house with my mum and Dad, then in 2012, we moved house and my mum and Dad broke up, then my mum has had different boyfriends and my dad has had different girlfriends since, I guess they were just looking for happiness but they have settled now and my mum has had a baby with someone else, (my stepdad) and through the course of 2012-2018 I moved houses 6 times and it hurts and makes me very unsettled and when I compare it to when I was a kid and my life was so innocent and calm with my nana and grandad just up the street from me and my other grandma just around the corner it makes me feel nostalgic because of how good it was and to think that my grandma has now gone into a care home and isn’t great is sad. Because when I go down certain paths and roads, it reminds my of when I was a kid and I would walk the dog with my grandma and things like that and I can’t do it anymore 😪
I miss being a kid playing Spyro the Dragon going out to play with my friends and watching WWF, my childhood was amazing and I fear my life will never be half as good again.
The worst nostalgia is when you hear a old song and it reminds you of your good old times with your parents and super boring but beautiful summer days. Those days in which you knew everything was ok because you had your mum or dad.
Me missing home so much right now. To be with my family, the sounds, the smells ,sights and feels. Contemplating those memories make me appreciate the simplest moments in time that have only increased in value the older I get and the further away I am. Nostalgia begs me to be present in the most non present way. I get transported into another time and come close to feeling those sensations all over again. And when my mind fades back into the present, I find myself incredibly grateful for the things I have and people I truly value. It’s such a humbling and wholesome form of human expression.
Man I’m 16 right now I remember living in my childhood home for around 5-6 years then I left and the moment I came to the new area in school at “home” I just cried and felt so nostolgic..
This was wonderful. I have found as I grow older and more and more disillusioned with life that I've grown more and more interested in surrounding myself with things that I grew up loving. Something about having them around me takes me back to a time when I believed in the world, that there was still so much left to be discovered and I was still hopeful.
despite only being 13, I get nostalgic from hearing songs from like the 50s and up. Or looking at old west photos. It's very odd but perhaps my wish to be a trapper, or a pioneer versus being a grade 8 student.
Same, I'm 16 now, but since the last 3-4 yrs, I've been obsessed with past decades and now they feel like the 'good old days' to me more than even my parents. I sometimes find myself wishing I was born at those times, because they seem more connected to me than any time in my life.

I hope that explained it a bit more.
omg..u descibed it perfectly
Nostalgia taught me that life isn't that bad than how I thought it to be, it made me remember and see the beautiful moments in my life that I couldn't see before. It makes me appreciate my life even more.
omg I feel exactly like this
😢
It's a beautiful feeling, and it makes me excited to experience a new day so I can make more happy memories
Whenever I get nostalgic I get really depressed but it feels good knowing that I had those great moments in my life that will always be a part of me and in my memory

I miss watching Doraemon. And I also used to watch Doraemon for hours after coming from school, not giving a damn about anything else. I had practically no stress.
@@shbgmusicparody1201 noooo thats the saddest news I have recieved in a long time. Rip. No one can replace him.
I watched an edit on Pokemon where brock, Misty and Ash parted their ways . And i broke down in the toilet the next day thinking how brock doesn't actually exist.
Also i was missing the time back in 2014 when i was in 6th grade, used to get back home and watch Pokemon in the afternoon. I wish I could experience that again.....
my nostalgia :
playing with my friends
me and my friend splited up :(
having fun with my dog
watching spongebob
playing lumber tycoon 2 (ROBLOX)
etc
@BECAUSE IM BATMANi had a dog once, i would choose my dog over online games, computer and toys, we were best pals, one day my family had to move far away and we couldnt bring our dog, i havent seen my dog since, then after 9 years, we finally go back home(summer vacation), and the first thing i want to do is to see my dog, but he died.........
RIP Jaymer.
I remember having a nostalgia moment when my parents couldn't stop slapping turkey on their chest in the fourth of July
your parents are weird
Huh
WILD
WTF
What was in your parents minds at that moment?
Smell is the biggest nostalgic surprise people experience.
I sometimes miss who I was in the past in terms of behavior and attitude.
Cant relate more
Same now I'm all moody and stuff:(
Same
I always miss it
Same
Nostalgia makes me cry sometimes when I'm thinking about it, it feels like it was just yesterday. It's one of the most pleseant and painful things time flies like the speed of light! When were having so much fun all day everyday you forget about time then you realize your almost all grown up and you say "What happened to the old days"? It's so sad to think about 😞😭
I get nostalgia the most when coming across old TV shows or old video games😢
God bless dude, fight through it, you can do it
I feel really bad for you bro. But you can pull through. Have faith in yourself :-)
I miss being a kid playing Spyro the Dragon going out to play with my friends and watching WWF, my childhood was amazing and I fear my life will never be half as good again.
yeah I feel that. And nowadays, how do you feel?
I love Nostalgia, it takes us back to our youth when are hormones were flying high. Those memories can make us happy
The worst nostalgia is when you hear a old song and it reminds you of your good old times with your parents and super boring but beautiful summer days. Those days in which you knew everything was ok because you had your mum or dad.
"Hey let's build that diamond house tommorow"
"Yeah I'm so excited!"

Halo 2
Proust's experience sounds like the inspiration for Ego's flashback moment in "Ratatouille".
It’s such a humbling and wholesome form of human expression.
omg I m just feeling nostalgic
im still remembering it like it was yesterday
Man I’m 16 right now I remember living in my childhood home for around 5-6 years then I left and the moment I came to the new area in school at “home” I just cried and felt so nostolgic..
This was wonderful. I have found as I grow older and more and more disillusioned with life that I've grown more and more interested in surrounding myself with things that I grew up loving. Something about having them around me takes me back to a time when I believed in the world, that there was still so much left to be discovered and I was still hopeful.
I had nostalgia thinking about memories that give me nostalgia while watching this video about nostalgia.
despite only being 13, I get nostalgic from hearing songs from like the 50s and up.
I sometimes find myself wishing I was born at those times, because they seem more connected to me than any time in my life.
no wonder your name is arthur morgan. i bet you are feeling so because of red dead 2 lol. that game was a masterpiece. Felt like a different world altogether
Same but with different things
Me too I always get nostalgic when I think of the 80's in America (even tho I wasn't born in America and 80's)the houses, the freinds, what schools look liked it just seems nostalgic
I am 13 too (going to be 14 soon ) but I just miss going to my school , I may sound like an old geezer but I feel like those were the good ol days , but covid has ruined my life.....
Nostalgia is so different for everyone, I ran into a childhood friend once. I'm a pretty nostalgic guy, and I enthusiastically recalled some of the memories I had with him. Seems like they meant more to me than to him.
Is it wierd that Tom Scott uploaded a video 6 minutes ago where he got nostalgic talking about the teapot?
Marijan Tadijal lol, ye
I literally just watched that too
Yes I watched that first and I do bet nostalgic about technology.
my name is Marcel!
Marijan Tadijal who's tom Scott?
