@@CollardValleyCooks I make my dumplings exactly the way you do Tammy. That's how my momma taught me to make them. And for years now it's my family's favorite meal that I cook, Everyone around. My Family and Friends always request for me to make my chicken and dumplings. I even make them for the Holidays every year. Thanksgiving. Christmas, and Easter. Right along with my Ham and Turkey. Yes Ma'am Tammy our Momma's taught us right! Thank you so much for sharing. God Bless Y'all. Much Love From your longtime Indiana Friend.

You are so right, some people don't know the difference between dumplings and soup. Celery, carrot, and onions don't belong in dumplings.

Hi Tammy and Chris...So good to see you. When I was newly married I didn't have a rolling pin so I used a can. My husband went out and took the last few dollars and bought me a rolling pin. I still have 59 years later that same rolling pin. Hope this will be a good year for you guys and CVC. God Bless LuvYa! Bye from Ohio

I use the store bought cooked chickens and my own cooked chickens to make broth, if I am not going to need it I can it, hate to waste anything today, and it is so much better than anything you buy. I have never ever made chicken and dumplings, but now after watching you I want to, you make everything look so good.

Just finished making this and I am eating it right now. My mother's family all come from Macon, Georgia and so I grew up on this good 'from scratch' food, but not a one of them can tell me how much of each thing to put in . This is as close as I can get to mom's and my husband says this is how I make them from now on 😊.

    • @CollardValleyCooks

When I started the show I had never measured anything. It took a lot of thought and patience to try and figure out how much of everything to put in. I did not best with my videos for years. It took me years to figure out how to tell people to make their dumplings so they wouldn't fall apart. I would just say get it right, get the consistency right, but it was hard to tell him how. And now I've learned if you could pick up the sheet of dumplings. They're going to hold together. Just things like that have been such a blessing to be able to tell people I think you'll love my recipes. I'm glad you're here

I've never put cream of chicken (or milk for that matter!) in my broth before but I think I'll try that when I make a batch up later on this month. I use the Costco rotisserie chicken for my shortcut. Something about the already roasted meat going into the broth that is already thickened seems to make the chicken smoother and more silky than adding some boiled chicken back into it.
I used canned biscuits a few times when I was younger for the dumplings but they always, always disintegrate in my broth. I do prefer your way of making the dumplings as I grew up eating dumplings that were made from the exact recipe my mother used for rolled biscuits. Some folks think that dumplings shouldn't have any leavening in them but those unleavened dumplings have a weird mouthfeel in my opinion.
I was born in the Delmarva region and would eat this dish at least once a month. Mom continued to make it after we moved to Missouri and it was a favorite meal of my own kids. I'm on the west coast now but when I go back to the Midwest, I rent a house for a week and make use of the kitchen. I cook up a big pot of it for my grown kids to enjoy.

Your dumplings look delicious! Thanks for explaining why dumplings dissolve. I have my mom’s recipe and I tried it a couple of times to make them. I put the several dumplings in the broth and went to get more. Much to my surprise mine dissolved. I’ll try again. Thanks again. Love your channel. Another "free" thing to get out of a Rotisserie chicken is to take the pieces of chicken skin and bake them on a sheet pan (or air fry). It's a yummy snack--it crisps up like bacon. It has a really good flavor to it. (It's keto-friendly, too, I think.)

My mom made dumplings out of the “biscuit “ mixture too. She did make hers thicker though. And sometimes she would make fried chicken and make potatoes and dumplings to go with it. I love both ways but do especially love the potatoes in with the dumplings. I think our mama’s cooked very similarly. I’m from Ga north of Atlanta too so maybe it’s a Ga thing.
Also since my mama made dumplings the same way I know what they taste like and they are the best dumplings you’ve ever eaten.
