  • Hello everyone! This is part 1 of a much, MUCH larger video that will likely be in the works for a long time into the future, where I review the contents of Xenoblade 3's story in its entirety. To get them out to you quicker (and to also ease my sanity, so I can actually feel like I'm making tangible progress with this megaproject!) I'm going to upload them in individual segments, and this is the first: my thoughts regarding the game's opening!
Please note: there are currently certain 'gaps' in the video where things like timestamps for later sections of the video I've not yet created - and so I do not yet know when exactly they're going to occur - WILL be shown, when the video is complete. For now, though, they are empty. I am fully aware of these and they are a necessity; think of them as placeholders that will be filled in the future.

Xenoblade 3 is my favorite story in the series. I know that’s sort of a hot take but I think this story hit me more than the others. The other two stories were good but they never made me really question and cherish stuff as much as 3 did. The themes ring truer more than anything. And I can’t wait to see how you tackle the rest of the series.

Not my personal favourite (as you’ll find out later!) but I still really respect how and why many have this as their favourite story! There’s truly something profound about it. Thanks for watching bro

@@linkalot7415 hey man we all have our tastes and I completely understand why some people wouldn’t like the main villain being a concept instead of a character and the unanswered questions pertaining to stuff in the game and previous characters. I actually made a video all about why I love moebius and when your critique part comes out I’m more than happy to have a discussion!

@@linkalot7415On a similar vein with you, I also think XC3 is not my favourite in the trilogy purely on its plot and narrative. However if we look at worldbuilding and lore, I think it is the strongest and most interesting. A bit more "one sided" this time around compared to both XC1 and 2 but it is so rich and themtaically profound that I cant help but think about many insights XC3 provides for me. Maybe moreso than XC1 and 2 which I like more as a package than XC3. It is very interesting actually when you think about it. Haha

Wow. The "Lamb" being the same for both keves and agnus as an analogy for sacrifical lambs is an extremely clever deduction I didnt even know about.

This will be interesting to watch. I believe Xenoblade 3's chapter one to be extremely well made, probably my personal favorite introductory act across all of the Xeno games, maybe minus Xenogears. Theres so much work done here to set up the trajectory and relationships of the characters, the atmosphere is extremely oppressive and thick, and feels completely unique from any of the past Blade games. Theres even a lot of really cool, subtle foreshadowing moments like when Noah has a Freudian slip while fighting Mio, subconsciously recalling running away with her in his past lives, or how Noah says that the day of witnessing the Homecoming as a child was the day he began to question to world, the same Homecoming where he first heard Crys's music. The dialogue is really great too for the most part, and I was immediately endeared to the way different characters behave in relation to the world they inhabit, like the way Lanz acts willfully ignorant of his shortcomings and tries to act almost like a Reyn-archetype character in an effort to mask his own trauma. I was also really enticed by the prospect of having a party that would actually have some inner conflict that would need long-term resolving, seeing as how it is made up of soldiers from opposite sides.
Personally though I felt the game almost immediately betrays the expectations it set up from chapter 1 upon entering chapter 2. The party is very quickly endeared to one another minus some occasional bickering played for gags, the tone of the world is presented in a very typical Xenoblade fashion where it doesn't really feel like the party is particularly in danger of being hunted down by Keves, Agnus, Moebius or otherwise; as a matter of fact, most Colonies you come across feature either straight up friendly characters, or characters who already actively seek your help in some fashion. The dialogue also feels less and less believable over time, with characters conveniently ignoring certain things for the sake of not writing it in, like how nobody in the party questions Noah's possession of Lucky Seven after defeating Moebius K. It could have been interesting to see the party question Noah's limited use of such a power, and how that reflects on Noah's character, but such things just don't get brought up, and Noah is often portrayed as the most objectively correct and righteous person in the room.
I found the game to be chock full of idea's with tons of potential, but sorely lacking in proper dialogue and execution of those ideas. Like you allude to in the beginning of this video, Xenoblade 3 somehow has both the most frustratingly weak yet extremely compelling story i've experienced in a game personally, so it will be fun to hear someone else's opinions on certain matters.

24:47 This is why I love the Xenoblade series so much. They let the characters have normal human interactions with each other with no ulterior motive to progress the plot. They give characters time to just breathe and soak it all it. Xenoblade 1 did this the least, but it set the groundwork with heart to hearts and the Fallen Arm scenes, and they mastered the craft of character relationships.

Love how deep the story is. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 taught me not to continue living in the endless now. Break the cycle and change the future for yourself and others as long as it's done unselfishly. If you're depressed and living in dark times look beyond yourself and awaken your true potential. That's what this game taught me.

xenoblade 3 is definitely my favourite story of the 3, the characters, world building and stakes all make it so and i feel that the underlying messaging accedes all my favourite stories in media including the other xenoblade games, and even movies and shows such as the wind rises or andor, which both are a lot like xenoblade with the underlying themes

i know it's ludonarrative dissonance and we all love using buzzword terms, but imo i don't see any issue with doing side content despite mio's ticking clock because it's a video game. if you want to be cheeky, you can let your game sit for 36 hours in colony 9 and bam mio and mwamba are dead before finding the ouroboros. i appreciate people that can get so immersed in the game where they feel a disconnect, but that kind of problem is just always going to occur in video games and forcing the player to stay strict on their time for the sake of the narrative is usually a flaw and hurts the gameplay experience
also in fairness to the whole world being their enemy, it's not like the two countries immediately began a hunt for ouroboros to gun them down. in fact, some of them don't even go out of their way to fight them much, such as valdi, juniper, teach, and fiona's colonies. i feel like they do a good job of allowing ouroboros to handle being successful despite the odds because most interactions with colonies are less around hunting and more "ah, they've passed by. let's give it a swing" which imo also pairs well with the way the consuls tend to handle the situation
outside of that, cool video! definitely looking forward to the rest of it

I think Xenoblade3's prologue is the best in the series, but you must have played the others game to appreciate it. This because what makes this intro special are all the questions the players has while playing it and how the games are connected, knowing that this is a sequel, something very different from X or 2. My problem is what the game became later: 70% of these questions remain unanswared and the responsability of being the fisrt declareted sequel in the series AND third and final chapter of a trilogy suffocate Xc3, who is too little Xenoblade and has too many plot holes and abstactism.

    • @linkalot7415

I completely agree. This is the best opening in the series, which I reiterate throughout the entire video which is currently unreleased. I also have a whole section later complaining about all the unanswered questions too haha, just you wait!

Xenoblade in general has a lot of issues addressing prior concerns in a sound way and to have fluid continuity between games. I still love the series because it is more about the larger picture than the smaller imperfections, but people act like it is a flawless masterpiece when there is certainly room for improvement, which Monolith argubly does not even seem to really take as DE introduced more rough edges than it fixed.(I mean, XC2 DLC straight up forshadowed 3 better than FC ever did, which only became semi-relevant with FR)

    • @fourthstrongest
      @fourthstrongest 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@lpfan4491 fwiw i don't think fc was meant to foreshadow or set up xc3, it was more to give melia, a fan favorite, more time to shine and set her up a bit more for who she would be in xc3
i don't think monolith is interested in giving us full answers to everything and bridging every gap in their stories. a full, comprehensive timelines does not seem to be of interest to them. they mostly just want us to focus on the stories they're specifically presenting to us. and don't get me wrong, intention isn't an excuse. but at the same time, our understanding of what will be given to us is important as fans and consumers of these stories, lest we get too stuck in the weeds and upset over minor things that really don't add all that much to the stories and themes
