I legit just got the dusk divers 2 launch edition that comes in a special box. Haven’t opened it yet, but super excited to play it on the PlayStation portal
You and I like the same games! I loved “Daemon x Machina”, and while it wasn’t up to Atlus’ usual work, “Soul Hackers 2” was good! Loved the characters & character design. The Sabbath system wasn’t my favorite, but still enjoyable. (I also got into “Vampire Hunter D” b/c of Sci-Fi channel showing it in the 90’s!. Both films are incredible!). Haven’t played “Dusk Divers 2” but I’ll give it a chance now!
Hallowed If you like mech stuff you should look at getting gundam breaker 4 it comes out at the end of this month and is gonna be amazing. Also last of us 2 doesn’t have a story it has idiotic drivel 😆
Well shoot the next time I come across Dusk Divers 2 I just might have to give it a shot as it seems like it could be a rater fun action style game that is quite different form the norm. Along with giving Persona 5 Strikers a shot even though I don't think I can play as Futaba which is something I always like a bought these games. As it would give everyone a little more time to shine. Like how Rise was given a character slot in p4arena ultamax.
I do not understand people who get upset over someone liking a game. There are plenty of games that I don’t like, but I’m glad that there are people who do.
because if you like a shit game the future games are going to be shit, most people like xenoablde 2 because they're not smart and so Xenoblade 3 and the DLC were tainted by the same flaws as 2, you are ruining my favourite franchise by being stupid I have no symphathy for you
@@SJMcK i know the feeling. I said I liked Legend of Korra on an Airbender video yesterday and ppl started ree'ing out. Let ppl like what they like, sheesh. Arguing w ppl will just make them more firm, esp if you do it in a nasty way.
@@Xenowolf8 Ironic you say that when there's a guy going through the whole comment section showing his hate boner for xc2 and trashtalking anyone who likes it, including the owner of the channel.
I didnt realize people hated P5 Strikers. I loved that game. It acted as a sequel and was much more of a Persona game rather than I Dynasty Warriors game (I love both series btw). The soundtrack was amazing, especially the remix of Last Surprise so freaking good!!
I'm surprised too. The game is good. It's a Warriors game that did something DIFFERENT. People kept saying that Warriors games are too repetitive so when they branch out people hate that?! The hell?!
Glad to see Hero must Die on this list. It's such a hidden gem. As for Soul Hackers 2, another big issue was the lack of a Switch version, which made no sense for a dungeon crawler. A late port with all the DLC included would've improved it's reception.
OH MY GOD, THANK YOU! Twitter's hatred over XBC 2 is just annoying! All they do is scream how much it's a "sin" yet offer no meaningful criticism. They just call it bad just because it has big boobs and that's it! And Heaven forbid if you bring up the optional Bunny Girl.
yeah, whenever someone says its bad because big boobs or a character is sexualized because big boobs, my response is always the same " i dare you to go out into the street and say that to a real girl tell them they are bad, and sexualized simply because they went through puberty and have big boobs" lmao
The fact they never talk about the actual issues, like bad tutorials, map compass or field skills just shows that they never even played the game to give a valid opinion.
XBC2 is a great game , story and gameplay, a little complicated if you don't learn how to play but good once you know how to use the mechanics , the boobs is a plus for those that like it
My apathy of XC2 is more mechanics. I didn't like that the game Auto-saved every time you attuned with a gem. The lesser Blades really are useless as all of their abilities are just lessor of the rare blades and you can't use them to power up others. The blades are locked to each character unless you use an insanely rare item to transfer them. (One character can use all late in the game) The fact you could not attack while moving pissed me off because of the enemies that flee and get reinforcements. I beat it but it's definitely my least favorite of the Xenoblade games...
I’m loving the frequent uploads lately! And I also like seeing games mentioned in multiple episodes. It’s basically a reminder for me to get a specific game I might be interested in.
Xenoblade 2 is my favorite Xenoblade. The element-based combat was so fun once you learned how to properly Launch and Smash and pull off millions of damage! Couple that with the music, the locations and the characters and mwah! Loved it! 💕 Can't say the same for XC3. The game felt so humorless. The military aesthetic felt so stoic and cold. The Smash and Launch mechanics didn't feel nearly as satisfying to pull off as they did in XC2, and 3's final boss just draaaaaaagggggggeeeeeeddddd.... I'll take XC2 any day.
@@fikaieldjou Relax, it's about "gaming", not supreme court decisions or medical and financial advice. I imagine you are someone who goes to Comic Con wearing blue jeans and a black T-shirt while ridiculing others "unsophisticated" and "trashy" fashion.
2 is my second favorite behind X, but among the numbered games it's easily my favorite. 3 was infuriating with the constant tutorials that kept popping up even 5 hours in, forcing these long winded menu navigation prompts like we're too dumb to understand the concept. I couldn't get into it because every time I thought the game would let me actually play it for more than a few minutes it had to grind things to a halt just to tell me how to hit the party button, and explain the concept of a party, and force me to change the party members, then change them back, then ask if I wanted to hear the tutorial again.
@@davidk.8686 ok, i feel attacked there, think im catching some stray shots as i usually wear black t shirts and blue jeans, mostly because i dont really care about fashion and just wear what i feel comfortable in, lmao
@@shoked99both XC and XC2 are top tier gems but you can seriously play them in any order (1 and 2) because they are almost virtually focused on their own world
I don't think so, I think it's because of the change in style from xeno chronicles to 2, if it were a direct sequel to x or xenosaga then I think they fit quite well. Or well that's what it seemed to me.
Xenoblade 2 is my favorite of the series. It just hit everything I want from a JRPG and really got me into the series. I bounced off of 1 when it released on the Wii because the quests just burnt me out. So 2 did a really good job of pulling me in and properly enjoying the series. I have a couple of games on the list that are still on the backlog like Soul Hackers 2 that I have to find time to try out before I have an opinion.
Soul Hackers 2 still has a chance if they release it for the switch 2 with QOL updates and more story added. It would probably work better as a portable experience anyway.
Xenoblade 2? Hated? I didn't know that; the game was a massive success. I think the haters are just really vocal while the people who actually like it have moved on. Hating on games intended to appeal to the male-audience is pretty popular in the mass media nowadays.
ok so i beat xenoblade 2 and liked it, the 2 big problems i had were the tutorials being wrong part of the time and no way to rewatch them, 2 i didnt care for the gatcha system, other then i really liked playing it
I never tried any of the Nep games for a long time, just writing them off as pure fan service. Then, on a lark (and a deep sale) I grabbed Megadimension Neptunia VII and was surprised that, under the Indeed vast amounts of fan service, there was a pretty damn solid rpg there lol
Unlimited SaGa is one for me. I totally understand why western players didn't vibe with it. No one really knew anything about it and in true SaGa fashion, there's no tutorial. But once I watched someone do a speedrun and they were explaining how the game works, so I picked it up again and I truly love it! I also love that, in true SaGa fashion, it's unapologetically itself.
Something I learned back in the days of NES, is that even terrible games can grow on you given enough time. Back then you basically bought based on the box, there was no return once you opened it, you played it until your next birthday or Christmas. Every game, good or bad, new or old, was $50. At least until 91 or so.
My problem with Soul Hackers 2 on release was just how slow everything was. They did eventually patch in the ability to run in dungeons and speed up combat, which fixes a huge problem. Kinda surprised you didn't mention that at all in the video
People who hate on fun games for having waifus/sexy characters are usually miserable creatures who try to find what passes for joy in their sad lives by searching stuff to be offended and upset about. Ruining other people’s enjoyment is to them more important than actually pursuing their own happiness. So f’ their “opinions”. Beautiful art and design is certainly a big part of my enjoyment of games, be it the settings, the characters, or whatever. I’m not fond of the word “waifu”,but I’m all aboard with the concept. Surprised you haven’t covered Bullet Girls Phantasia yet, though perhaps I missed the video? The English translated Asian version is fairly cheap now on Playasia so check it out if you don’t have it. It’s a pretty hilarious and fun game for sure. Keep up the great work, man. You’re one of the very few TH-camrs I give a like to before even watching the video, and I’m yet to be disappointed!
@@SuperRedNovaDragon They made a goated game just to not release it in the West (Pulseman), but at the very least he’s been immortalized in Rotom, who’s remained a staple in Pokémon.
Good stuff Ren! I really liked Soul Hackers 2 and Dusk Diver 2. I'm pretty sure I bought DD2 at your recommendation actually. Xenoblade 2 I haven't gotten around to playing. I feel like a lot of people seem to think anything under 80% on Metacritic is trash, when it really is more like "77 out of 100 people will have some fun with this." To be fair though, with so MANY games coming out most of us can't keep up, and only want to spend our money on things we feel confident about.🤷♀️
Need more of these. Love the list. There's some I haven't tried. Soul hackers 2 has a really interesting concept on the devil summoner lore, and for that alone it's worth checking out if you're an SMT/persona fan. Also, I just want to say; I've seen the jrpg community time and time again ask for a nice, small linier style jrpg that's relatively short to beat with "no high school kid simulator" and here's one of the best examples staring us all in the face. I really think we all took this game for granted and didn't give it a chance to take root and improve upon its systems. Huge Xenoblade Chronicles fan. Played them all and the DLC. Rex was just misunderstood by the haters. He's a god among men, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is better than XB-1 in my opinion (XB1 is great, don't get me wrong. But 2 is just genuinely better in every way mechanically aside from your personal preference in story differences that I understand). The combat, and blades are some of the best free gacha combat you can get in gaming history, and it was ahead of its time -- eventually gifting us the almighty Ouroboros system, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 being my favorite in the series I think my biggest example of a game I see hated on that I love is Tales of Legendia. It's my favorite in the series and I love the art/american voice actors/characters/music. It was unique and really hard to stop playing.
glad to see someone else likes soul hackers 2, I love it for the same reason I love Tokyo mirage sessions. they're definitely budget games but they feel like atlus actually trying something new instead of more of the same smt and persona style that they know sells
I agree. So many devs won't try something different at all when they hit on a winning, lucrative formula, and that just results in less innovation throughout gaming.
18:11 Can someone please explain to me why Persona 4 is in the mix for hate against waifus? No character that I remember there is like visually oversexualised and you can romamce someone in all Persona Games since 3. How does only Persona 4 get hate for that? Not that I want the others to get hate as well, I‘m just confused😅
Ren, I absolutely love your videos and pick up most of the intriguing games on Steam. I have a question and somewhat of a favor to ask you. Can you suggest or do a video of a handful of MUST HAVE GAMES for those of us who are new to JRPG's on the Switch? I'm not a fan of turn based battles so that has held me back from trying some of your games. There are so many damn games on the Switch, I don't know what to start with. Thanks man.... I appreciate your work!
Awe thanks so much! So hyped you're enjoying the videos! And I think that's a fantastic idea for a video. I'll have to put that on my list of video ideas. Definitely let me know if you have any other list ideas requests. I'm so hyped for you to discover the insane quality and vast JRPG list on switch!
I love Xenobalde Chronicles 2 so much, I even bought Pyra for Smash Bros. Ultimate, the only Smash Bros. DLC I ever bought, didn't even buy Bayonetta for Smash Bros. on Wii U. Else I don't really know what games that I like are hated, maybe anything by Compile Heart or the Gal*Gun games, or Senran Kagura, but with all those games the people who hate them are usually a certain group. Maybe Hard Edge/T.R.A.G. on PS1? Ah, Deus Ex Invisible War on Xbox.
Xbc2 and golden country not only have the best story but also the best gaming mechanics in the series. If a new Xeno game comes out, I would want more inspiration to be drawn from 2 than any other.
You... do spend most of the game in Dusk Diver 2 in one city. The city of Taipei. You do visit more locations in the city than in the first game (like Dadaocheng that you might also recognise from The Legend of Tianding), but it's still within one city. I agree that it's not much of a criticism though. DD2 is a beatiful and fun to play game, but as a sequel... I can't agree that it's an upgrade in every way. While DD1 was mostly a brawler bordering on Musou-type, with some RPG elements, DD2 is more of an action RPG and, I think, that's where criticisms come from - especially if you're coming straight from DD1, the differences can be jarring. Stat upgrades play now a bigger role, which make for more recognisable progression, but at the same time, make it look like it's a bit less about player skill than it's about big stats. Another thing - attacks. While in the first game you had access to all attacks at a time, in DD2, a lot of those got relagated to active skills, that you can only equip 4 or so (I'll admit it's been a while since I played it, so might be getting details wrong). In DD1 all attacks were situational, while in DD2 nearly all early skills are exchanged for ones with better stats as game progresses. I that's something I took personally - one of my favourite attacks in DD1, was the 1-2 hook combo, that could be repeated few times, going 1-2,1-2,1-2-1-2-1-2.... and in DD2 - not only you can't spam it like in DD1, it's stats are poor and there's little to no reason to even equip it. There are also some smaller changes, that can just rub you the wrong way - like the super meter being a generic bar instead of stylish hair filling. Or that super mode is no longer the event it was in DD1 - no longer you have a track accompanying your Super Saiyan transformation (I effin loved it in DD1, made the final battle even better with lyrics popping in). Sure, it makes sense to have more universal bar, since now it applies to all characters - one can say it's a small trade-off for having more playable characters, and sure, track for transformation isn't much of a deal in-of-itself, but both made my time in first game all the more enjoyable, and leave an empty seat, so to speak, that I don't think anything filled in. Dusk Diver 2 is a very different game to the original, which sparks conflicting opinions on it as a sequel. It''s a very fun game and I hope the series will see another release... that's not a just a DLC for another game.
I find tank controls to be less fidgety personally. Like in Tomb Raider, you know exactly how many steps you need, even if you are sometimes pressed to speedrun.😅
As a fan of the entire FFXIII trilogy, I understand your feelings entirely. It's rough when it feels like everyone else in the world is dunking on your taste and preferences. You start to wonder whether there's something wrong with you, or whether it's everyone else.
I played through the whole trilogy last year and it has some of the best music and gameplay out of all the Final Fantasy games. The story is a bit crazy but JRPG's often have those kinds of stories
@@omegaweapon116Agreed. I've been playing FF games since the original, and while there's always things I enjoy and dislike in every game in the series, the XIII trilogy is just on another level in terms of gameplay and presentation.
I will hear NO blasphemy against Dusk Diver or Dusk Diver 2! I’ll admit, some of these I haven’t had the pleasure of playing but I will not allow any slander towards Dusk Diver!!!! Stellar video my brother! You tell ‘em!!!
I don't get around to commenting nearly as much as I should, but I REALLY appreciate hearing a content creator's personal opinions not simply received Reddit wisdom. Keep it coming and best wishes all around. Been a fan for a while.
I enjoyed Poison Control, but I did fall off and never finished it because it got a little too samey for me. Your tangent about about playing games without story brought me back to the old days. Story? You talking about story? Mario didn't have a real story! Pong?! We had two lines hitting a pixel back and forth and we were grateful!!!! 🤣
23:04 "A snowball would have a better chance in the 7th circle of hell of surviving..." You know, in the Divine Comedy the 7th circle of Hell, Cocytus,, is described as entirely frozen over, binge the prison of Satan, so I think a is snowball would have pretty good chance at surviving there
"Mayby im just a shallow human being" well your name is hallow lol. I'll die on the hill of persona strikers as i enjoyed my time with that game tenfolds over persona 5r. Poison control is the definition of a hidden gem as i would have not even known about its existence till a psn sale and im grateful.
The way I understand it, with Xeno they wanted to make a Metal Max game that would have wider appeal (probably why they localized it). It didn't work, meanwhile Metal Max fans weren't particularly happy with how they waited half a decade for a knockoff, so with Xeno Reborn they remade it to strip the story so it was more like older games (Metal Max was always more of a sandbox, you're just a bounty hunter exploring the wasteland) hoping it would satisfy fans. But that wasn't what made Xeno bad, that was the saving grace. They just stripped what made Xeno unique & special and republished its inferior skeleton. I don't like Reborn all that much and I know Xeno can't be TOO much better though I'd love to play it one day. Failing that, Cygames purchased the Metal Max IP so hopefully a proper Metal Max 5 is in development. Edit: if anyone wants to play a Metal Max game, I recommend Metal Saga on the PS2. It was the only game officially localized before Xeno, loved it as a kid. It's got a low Metacritic score but ignore it, it's mostly because of how different it is from other JRPGs rather than specific flaws. If you don't mind giving up 3D graphics, Metal Max Returns (SNES), Metal Max 3 (DS), Metal Max 2 RELOADED (DS) all have fan translations and are the core of the franchise and thus the most metalmaximized Metal Max experience
It’s funny, I was gonna say Xenoblade chronicles 2 and then you brought it up. It’s literally my favorite Xenoblade game along with Torna the Golden country.
@@user-ef7gn4jy6v I mean, there is always more than that... it just means you like the characters design and personality basically. Point any JRPG that you've played and I it will probably have a husbando/waifu, at least I think so 🤔
I dont mind waifu games in fact ive enjoyed more than one, like the senran kagura series, but I do prefer my non waifu focused games to not lean too heavily into waifu character styles as I can find it a bit distracting. Just imo though edit. I hadn't got to the xb2 portion yet but its exactly what I was thinking of haha. But I do like that game and I like Pyramid as a character.
Oh yea I was trying to think of a game. I forgot that one was a bit hated, but yea I loved it. To me it was sorta like baby's first shin megami tensei. I def enjoyed the artstyle esp the main character and her gf.
xenobabe chronicles 2 is my most fav game ever made. and it always will be... played it well over 1000 hours by now and i'll play it thousands more until the day i kick the bucket.
Man I originally played dusk diver because of one of your videos, and I can’t wait to finally give the 2nd one a try, especially after watching this video.
All of this game you mention is now back on my radar. I have a feeling games you mention here will probably go up in value because of the disparity between it's real and perceived value. This might as well be titled criminally underrated games.
Love to see another Xenoblade 2 fan! I played the first on my Wii when it come out, and i am currently playing the third... but the second one is my favourite, i loved it! I also enjoyed Dusk Diver, while the second is in my backlog, along with DaemonXMachina. Maybe it's finally time for me to play them.
Godzilla for PS4. I bought Overwatch due to the recommendations and hype, but was bummed that there wasn't a solo campaign. I returned it and ended up with a few titles, with Godzilla being one of them. The only flaw is the saving system (or lack thereof), but it's my favorite game to just chill and destroy. Love what you love, and if other people go out of their way to tell you otherwise: good! More for you.
Got Soul Hackers 2 half off during an anime game sale at GameStop. Not the best I've ever played but I was fine with that given I'd only spent $30. I think what I really didn't love was the dungeons. I need to give it more time when I have a chance because I liked the customization.

@@nintendo1889x that's part of what makes it great though. The bad voice direction(what you put on the acting) is what makes it stand out, memeable, fun and memorable
This video couldn't have come at a better time. I recently started to think that I like "bad" games. You have to really listen to the reasons reviewers are calling a game bad and stop to think if that's something you actually wouldn't like.
Thanks for the very interesting video. People tend to hate what they don't understand. Negative people are definitely more vocal than positive people, especially online.
I tried to love dusk diver 2 but here are my nitpicks: 1) You run/sprint pressing the L3 stick instead of ZR like the first game or many action games (you cant change controls). 2) enemies are so spongie, any mob could take forever to kill. 3) that first boss tho’ gave me headaches.
Musou games have improved so much, P5S got ruled out as one but after Dragon Quest heroes 1 and 2, those were really good news and it delivered. I wish the Xenoblade Chronicles games were available on PC, I only played the first one on the Wii but I never bought another nintendo console ever again and still have no plans.
I love all the xenoblade games. My favorite is probably Xenoblade Chronicles X (got totally lost in that world for 200+ hours) but since the cowards at nintendo won't port it off the WiiU, I'd say XBC2 is next lol. The psuedo gacha mechanic sucked but it allowed for a huge supporting cast, many with their own side stories. The characters in general were just fun. Pyra and Mythra were great. Rex was a fairly stereotypical shonen protagonist and i enjoyed all the rest of the supporting cast. The story also goes HARD once you get about halfway in. I enjoyed XBC3, but it felt like a step back. More bland environments, a less likable cast, a less flashy and somehow more messy battle system and just a geneal bleak tone. Good RPG. Not as good as its predecessor. Side note: for a long time, Soul Hackers 2 was on GamePass. It, sadly, has been taken off now, but while it was there i tried it out. I didnt finish it but i could definitely appreciate the art, characters, etc even if the level design was a bit dull.
Somehow many of my favorite games end up being ones everyone else seems to dislike. Two of my favorite games of all time are: - Dark Souls 2 - Tokyo Mirage Sessions Your list was also full of great games. I haven’t played all of them, but I can vouch for Poison Control, Daemon x Machina, XC2, and Soul Hackers 2. All fantastic games!
@@WorldBurningTime ds2 def got a hate following. I enjoyed my initial playthrough. I also beat the dlc with the pyramid type place. I also enjoyed the story prob more than any From game since (until ER.) That said, when I try replays I tend to hit places where I just stop having fun and give up. Also don't know what is considered the best experience anymore. For years I saw the scholar version, but now I see more love for the original release. I honestly didn't enjoy the scholar version. It felt like the game was plugged into a randomizer or something.
I love love Metroid Other M. I’ve never been a big story guy so I could care less about the problems people have with the story. It’s fast and fluid, the ship is fun to explore, and Samus has a lot of cool moves. That’s all I need in a video game.
I don’t see where Soul Hackers 2 is “dirt cheap”. I haven’t checked it out on PS lately but it’s still an elevated original price on XBox. Cheapest version is $60.
My problems with DxM had little to do with the story; I thought the lore that cropped up between missions was pretty neat, even if it wasn't what I was there for. I enjoyed the weapon loadouts I was able to put together by the end of the game even. But it felt like there just weren't very many combinations of cool and useful weapons even after I'd finished basically all the missions in the game. There were my cool standbys of big melee weapon, big laser, consistent gun, and missile launchers, but beyond those, I didn't see what else I should be kitting my mech out with. At least it was good for acclimating to this genre of game, so when people say it's "Armored Core, but worse" I feel very confident that I'd be able to get into Armored Core. What's frustrating about the XC2 discourse is it draws people away from some legitimate issues with the gameplay that are present. The game is legitimately very fun, but it puts up a lot of obstacles to keep you from learning how to enjoy it. It's well-accepted in the Xenoblade circles I travel that the tutorials just aren't very good, and fans have made a number of spoiler-free guides to understanding the systems so it's possible to get the most out of the game regardless. I feel the game would benefit most from a Definitive Edition treatment that rectifies that, as well as some UI issues here and there.
10:38 1. I’ll eat up anything Persona/shin megami tensei related 2. I am a musou addict, I’ll play any that can grab my attention. Mix the two? I’m in heaven.
The irony for me is that pretty much every Musou crossover is more enjoyable to me than the mainline Samurai/Dynasty line. It's always fun seeing how they mix in elements from the host game to the musou formula. They all feel so wildly different from one another because of that.
legit games tho, its probably cuz its jrpg games. Whats weird is that Tales of series hasnt been known. Even tho we push for all these games to come overseas since it was exclusive in japan early 2010s
Final Fantasy VIII, the XIII trilogy and Star Ocean: The Last Hope are games a lot of people aren't too fond of, but they're near and dear to my heart ❤
Kind of random but Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is a renowned “bad game” but I can’t dislike it no matter what people say, I think about it consistently after all these years. Also I love this channel, man!
I liked playing Poison Control myself a year or two ago. I just think one thing that killed some of my enjoyment that some of the later levels had some ingame lag and for some reason I had a few times where my game kinda crash during the final level a few times. (forgot if it did a level earlier or not) Also some weapons just weren't as useful as others and I wished it had a bit more enemy variety but still I did have fun in my playthrough, however. It just needed some more polishing to be more of a classic.
yeah P5 Strikers rocks. my only issue, and tbf it's a big one, is the lack of Akechi. I also love Xenoblade 2 and genuinely think it's one of the better games ever made. being honest a lot of these feel more like deep cuts than actually hated games lol
It took place after the original p5 where Akechi was assumed dead. I suppose you can write your own canon to why he's not there if you only played royal.
The Xenoblade Chronicles 2 discourse has calmed down but it's still pretty awful at times. And as someone who does like the game there are still issues that are much more of a problem then attractive ladies. The tutorials that you can only see once, the way the field skills are implemented, the gacha system, its pacing at times. But instead it's just "you only like this game because there's some big old honker around every corner." As someone who hates it's style of gameplay it is easily one of my favorite games on the switch because of its story and its characters and it's music. Oh my God it's music I love it so much. It was also the first Xenoblade game I played, I think it's better than 1 DE and 3 and it's no contest. And it's DLC torna is even better.
My problem with Deamon X Machina is the strong red tint of the game, it's bordering painful. I also started on Xenoblade X then Xenoblade 1 but I really liked Xenoblade 2.
I picked up dusk diver 1 on a whim at a gamestop and they gave me the day one edition (with artbook and all) for no added cost since I guess it didn't sell well. I played it for a while but lost interest and haven't been able to go back to it. Been a long time since then and it's nice to hear 2 got an improvement but I don't know if I can finish the first one 😅
I gotta say Xenoblade Chronicles X. 10/10 game. Though it was unfortunately censored.. It's my favourite Wii U game. I remember playing whist online, took a screenshot of the most beautiful scenery, and posted it in-game. So many people liked it and replied. When I posted it, I added a caption "So beautiful" Unfortunately my Wii U broke, due to prolonged inactivity.. So I'm still looking for a console repair shop. But, on the bright side, I'm emulating it on my computer. Had to start all over, but worth it 💯 It's the only Wii U game I emulate.
Alpha Protocol, comes to mind. That game is GOATed for me, and man like the whole journalism community slammed it. Almost no people I meet actually played it and of those I talked into trying it most agreed it was in fact rad, but it’s wild how hard such an amazing title got nitpicked apart over BS. Yes the gunplay is weird and takes getting used to, yes Mike is corny if you keep choosing the silly dialogue responses (solution: stop doing that if you don’t like it, pick other options), yes the enemy AI can be a little derpy. It’s still the most malleable “choices matter” game narratives I’ve ever seen, has enough RPG mechanics and interesting achievements to pursue to keep gameplay fresh for 3 runs minimum, and is generally just bonkers ambitious and fun for its era. It honestly makes me wonder if there were industry bribes demanded and not paid or something, I can’t fathom how something so revolutionarily cool for its time got piledrived in the reviews. Besides my main answer; I dunno… Rise of the Argonauts got a similar treatment despite being pretty great, but it probably hasn’t aged near as well. Outside that, I can name a lot of games I think are great that people don’t appreciate, but ambivalence isn’t hate really. Top of my head, feels like almost no one appreciated the Dead Island franchise other than me. Like as a zombie survival game? Idk, B-. Absolute top tier A++ best-of-show as “First Person Melee” goes though. Yeah man, if you just mash the trigger brainlessly like it’s Skyrim, *you’re gonna have a bad time*. But in terms of considering things like momentum, balance, positioning… Dying Light gives a decent effort, but no other first person game is truly a match for the care out into Dead Island’s melee combat
8:59 to be fair, it was hard for me to get into even in the tutorial. I am with you in regards to story, if the story was just “you are a mercenary, you do mercenary things as you build up your mech’s power” I’m cool with it. But as it stands with gameplay, I can’t seem to get a good grasp of it.
Yeah, this is a subject I'm all too familiar with. There are plenty of games I like that are seemingly despised everywhere else. Heck, I can think of a number of channels who seemingly go out of their way just to hate on not just some games, but entire franchises and even developers at that. Just one of the unfortunately natures of being into the more niche stuff I guess, they are relatively easier and safer targets to harass. Anyway, I've actually played and enjoyed some of the games listed on here myself. Namely "Poison Control" and "Dusk Diver 2", though "Hero Must Die Again" is on my wishlist.
Persona 5 Strikers is a fantastic game and I completely agree with you on that. With Persona 5 being one of my favorite games of all time, I would play any genre if it meant the continuation of the story and the ability to spend more time with the characters. The game itself was a nice refresher compared to the usual, strictly turn-based combat system. The story engaging from the beginning to the end. A great spin off that I was sad to see end.
Adding Hero Must Die Again to my wishlist that sounds fantastic. I find most people don't actually hate time mechanics they just think they do so it intimidates them from trying games that have them like Dead Rising and Pathfinder: Kingmaker both games that most who actually try like and the few that don't like them almost always cite something other than the time management as their complaint just as an example.
yeah, the people who complained about xenoblade 2 were kind of crazy, i remember seeing one post on a forum where a guy was complaining about pyra not just having big boobs, but also having the cooking skill, basically complaining that she as a female is attractive and can cook like none of that should be allowed lmao
I absolutely loved Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The story was amazing, they gave all the Rare blades their own quests, where we learn more about them. We learn about the Antagonists reasons for doing what they did. The character designs were incredible too, and I liked the open world play style. I'll admit I can see why some people disliked it, since some quests don't tell you how or where to get certain items. But there's guides for a reason.
Honestly Xeno Reborn is great. It improves things across the board and removes unnecessary stuff. I feel people that complain about it never played the other Mettal Max games. It has always been open and sandboxy within reason.
Gotta say I agree with your assessment of Soul Hackers 2. It’s a very fun and good game. It’s no Persona, but it was never supposed to be. You’re correct that the biggest issue was the pricing and DLC. The thing that kills me about it is that if all of the issues around this game boil down to the fact that it’s too expensive… then why don’t people just get it on sale? Why not just pass on the DLC? It’s a damn shame because I had a heap of fun playing that game.
Good list. The complaints about Metal Max Xeno are of two types, those who do not know it and complain about the lack of story and those who played the PS4 version because of the controls. And well, since everything was a wasteland I miss the survivor camps and missions. Games that people hate and I loved them Dark souls 2 and Natural doctrine, natural doctrine was a linear game that was very quick to finish but the game play was still very interesting
I bought Poison Control on release day, I liked it. It's not fantastic but it was a fun game and it filled a small part of the gigantic hole of Mega Man Legends 3's cancelation. I thought Red Ash would help but it's "existence" just makes the hole bigger.
One kinda hated game I absolutely adore was Star Ocean The Last Hope. When it came to PS3 I was so happy and played it for good 500h+. After I was kinda let down by FFXIII, it became my comfy go-to JRPG at the time. :)
Great video! Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is AWESOME! I know a lot of people don't love it but I had the best time with it!!! It was such a good game and I was so teary at the end!!! YAY!

You should tell that to the Xenoblade 2 fanbase, if anyone says “I don’t like Xenoblade 2” they start going haywire.
because if you like a shit game the future games are going to be shit, most people like xenoablde 2 because they're not smart and so Xenoblade 3 and the DLC were tainted by the same flaws as 2, you are ruining my favourite franchise by being stupid I have no symphathy for you

I stopped paying attention to game "journalists" a long time ago. I'll bet these are all solid.
Game journalists are laughable
Absolutely
Every IGN review is a total clown fiesta so yeah.
I didnt realize people hated P5 Strikers. I loved that game. It acted as a sequel and was much more of a Persona game rather than I Dynasty Warriors game (I love both series btw). The soundtrack was amazing, especially the remix of Last Surprise so freaking good!!
Oh man does that song slap!!!
Un peu trop esthetisant et mis en scène ,a mon goût ..
I have it,it's a good game. The people that don't like it, could just go play the other persona games.
It's not. It's pretty highly rated, really. There will always be people that don't like something though.
I'm just finishing up Persona 4 and can't wait to start SH2 because I've got got this feeling I may like it better.
XBC2 is a great game , story and gameplay, a little complicated if you don't learn how to play but good once you know how to use the mechanics , the boobs is a plus for those that like it
@@woteveruk1 considering the current landscape of society, I'm pretty sure there's already someone going around doing this lol.
Loved it! 💕
Can't say the same for XC3.
Xc2 is easily my favorite

2 is my second favorite behind X, but among the numbered games it's easily my favorite. 3 was infuriating with the constant tutorials that kept popping up even 5 hours in, forcing these long winded menu navigation prompts like we're too dumb to understand the concept. I couldn't get into it because every time I thought the game would let me actually play it for more than a few minutes it had to grind things to a halt just to tell me how to hit the party button, and explain the concept of a party, and force me to change the party members, then change them back, then ask if I wanted to hear the tutorial again.

Xeno 2 is also my favorite by far! I'd love to hear what ya think of Soul Hackers 2 if ya get to it.

I like that the gacha system has a canonical reason for existing
I like a lot of the Idea Factory and Neptunia games but they always get so much crap lol
I agree, I hate they get hated way too much. Love them
I have several and remember playing the original back on PS3. Pretty cheesy yet funny, even wrote a guide for the Neptunia vs Senran Kagura
I'm proud to say I own every Neptunia game physically. I love the series overall.
As games they are a bit lacking in a lot of areas, but I still enjoy them. Something can be below average and still be enjoyable.
I gotta check this out, thanks for recommending it! Never dove into the series before
Something I learned back in the days of NES, is that even terrible games can grow on you given enough time.

I really liked Soul Hackers 2 and Dusk Diver 2. I'm pretty sure I bought DD2 at your recommendation actually. Xenoblade 2 I haven't gotten around to playing.
I feel like a lot of people seem to think anything under 80% on Metacritic is trash, when it really is more like "77 out of 100 people will have some fun with this." To be fair though, with so MANY games coming out most of us can't keep up, and only want to spend our money on things we feel confident about.🤷♀️
Thanks so much! Yeah the metacritic worship is bonkers to me. It's locking people from genuinely incredible expereinces!
The combat, and blades are some of the best free gacha combat you can get in gaming history, and it was ahead of its time -- eventually gifting us the almighty Ouroboros system, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 being my favorite in the series
I think my biggest example of a game I see hated on that I love is Tales of Legendia.
@@Djw8991 i love it. I also liked its stripped down design. Not every single game needs to be a bloated triple A title. Channels like this prove that!

Is it alright to go straight to Dusk Divers 2, or should I try the first game?
You... do spend most of the game in Dusk Diver 2 in one city.
Sure, it makes sense to have more universal bar, since now it applies to all characters - one can say it's a small trade-off for having more playable characters,
and sure, track for transformation isn't much of a deal in-of-itself, but both made my time in first game all the more enjoyable, and leave an empty seat, so to speak, that I don't think anything filled in.

I love xenoblade chronicles 2, it's my favorite from the trilogy.
those games are wasted on you if that's your takeaway
@@fikaieldjou your comment makes no sense, XC2 was easily the most fun to play and my 1,4k hours in it speaks for itself.
@@fikaieldjou dude, you are all over the comment section. We get it, you have a hate boner for xc2. Now quit being a loser and let people enjoy their games.
Too bad the English dub was awful, esp. Rex, his "Screaming" was unbearable lol
@@nintendo1889x that's part of what makes it great though. The bad voice direction(what you put on the acting) is what makes it stand out, memeable, fun and memorable
wish someone would make a psx hack to get rid of the tank controls in vampire hunter d. someone made armored core full 360 analog so its def possible
I tried to love dusk diver 2 but here are my nitpicks:
1) You run/sprint pressing the L3 stick instead of ZR like the first game or many action games (you cant change controls).
2) enemies are so spongie, any mob could take forever to kill.
3) that first boss tho’ gave me headaches.
Musou games have improved so much, P5S got ruled out as one but after Dragon Quest heroes 1 and 2, those were really good news and it delivered. I wish the Xenoblade Chronicles games were available on PC, I only played the first one on the Wii but I never bought another nintendo console ever again and still have no plans.
yeah soul hackers 2 was pretty good, the music while doing the dead person sync is also goat
Two of my favorite games of all time are:
- Dark Souls 2
- Tokyo Mirage Sessions
Your list was also full of great games.
Excellent video, nice to see some different perspectives on some of these games. almost missed some of them!
I love love Metroid Other M. I’ve never been a big story guy so I could care less about the problems people have with the story. It’s fast and fluid, the ship is fun to explore, and Samus has a lot of cool moves. That’s all I need in a video game.
I love the hot takes, takes a lot to go against the grain. Earned my sub 👍👍
Awesome, thank you!
I feel the game would benefit most from a Definitive Edition treatment that rectifies that, as well as some UI issues here and there.
don't forget the fun dialogue options Joker has in persona 5 strikers
10:38 1. I’ll eat up anything Persona/shin megami tensei related
Agreed on all 3 counts! SO4 has some insanely fun combat. It's a completionist's nightmare, but great for a casual playthrough.
Kind of random but Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is a renowned “bad game” but I can’t dislike it no matter what people say, I think about it consistently after all these years. Also I love this channel, man!
Love your answer! Stoked you're enjoying the channel!
I've purchased Soul Hackers 2 on Steam for 22€ this summer sale with all dlcs and it looks gorgeous on the Steam Deck. It doesn't deserve the hate
yeah P5 Strikers rocks. my only issue, and tbf it's a big one, is the lack of Akechi.
@@logiclunacy606 I know why, I'm just grumpy about it haha
The Xenoblade Chronicles 2 discourse has calmed down but it's still pretty awful at times. And as someone who does like the game there are still issues that are much more of a problem then attractive ladies.
The tutorials that you can only see once, the way the field skills are implemented, the gacha system, its pacing at times. But instead it's just "you only like this game because there's some big old honker around every corner."
As someone who hates it's style of gameplay it is easily one of my favorite games on the switch because of its story and its characters and it's music.
This is my favorite video of yours! Thank you, throughly enjoyed it! ❤
I'm so glad to hear! Thanks for letting me know!
Would you recommend playing the first Dusk Diver or jump right into 2?
I do own both already.
Which game is the thumbnail character from, is she playable?
I've often thought about this same topic. With some of the standout games on my list being Final Fantasy 13, Metroid: Other M, and Sonic Forces.
Is Dusk Diver 1 and 2 available for PC?
The only thing i hate about Daemon X Machina is
Marvelous made Code Geass DLC exclusive to Japan only
yeah, the people who complained about xenoblade 2 were kind of crazy, i remember seeing one post on a forum where a guy was complaining about pyra not just having big boobs, but also having the cooking skill, basically complaining that she as a female is attractive and can cook like none of that should be allowed lmao
Great to see some love for Xenoblade 2 and DaemonXMachina !
You know it!
so happy to see love for P5 Strikers and Dusk Diver 2!
I like the way you put your videos together! It's about time I show some support your way. We should talk TH-cam shop sometime.
Hey man! Happy to answer any questions I can. I've slowed down as of late on YT due to life but always happy to chat!
Poison Control was a neat game but ran very rough on the Switch. It froze several times for me and the framerate tanked when fighting multiple enemies
Great video! Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is AWESOME! I know a lot of people don't love it but I had the best time with it!!! It was such a good game and I was so teary at the end!!! YAY!
