I've heard these are reliable and your video helps with that belief. Personally I'd like one of these for that v8 rumble. A saloon is hard to find but worth it in my opinion. 😊
Great little video, 1 thing though, BMW did not switch to unleaded bearings (tin/alu/copper, yes they also have copper) to try to fix the bearing issue (they have never acknowledged a problem with the S65) they along with other engine manufacturers were forced to remove lead due to the EU banning it. However it seems these harder 'unleaded' bearings do fair less worse than the earlier lead/copper ones. Having ('only') looked at 100s of photos of pulled bearings (from the M3post forum rod bearing thread and a FB group) I didn't see one alu/tin bearing that had worn through the babbit layer, although many were excessively worn compared to most other engines (and no, high revving has nothing to do with it). That said, some of the later bearing engines have failed in the past, although in lesser numbers than the earlier bearing motors (with the very limited info we have on this).
I liked your M3 buyers guide. Reading the comments about how most long term owners like these too sort of underlines why we buy these things. I’ve had mine for a few months only. I planned for it to have rod ends, motor mounts, plugs, cam covers etc done. It does exactly what I want it to do, sounds great, moves smoothly, DCT is my preference and have already lined up a Dinan software update for that. All in all I’m happy, was surprised that you’ve not had more likes as there has to be more people like us enjoying and searching for E92 M3 in there utube?? Are we just spread out around the country too much ? Anyway, great content, I’ve subscribed and have enjoyed a few of your videos. Keep it up 👍👍
Great to have another subscriber on board 😁 BMW M3's usually go through a stage of being under appreciated when they are around 10-15 years old. The E46 went through the same dip before everyone realised what a great drivers car is. The E92 will liekly be the same. It is now starting on the upwards curve we believe. This was one of the buyer's guides we really wanted to make even though we knew it wouldn't be as popular right now, but I suspect the video will become more popular in the time as more and more enthusiasts buy them to keep long term
Ive owned a Lci E93 since 2017 - increased battery discharge was a big issue until I replaced the battery. Water ingress in the boot another issue where the body panels have slight gaps over the years. Rattling convertible mechanism until locks hinges replaced. Reverse gear in dct lag resolved by GTS software upgrade. Overall smoother drive with stage 1 tune.
Good video. 👌🏻 First sentence is wrong tho. 🙄 Why does no one remember the e46 M3 GTR 🤷🏼♂️ (first V8 M3) Had my e92 for 5yrs and it’s been an amazing car. Even a run to the shops feels special. Do the rod bearings and keep on top of service and you’re good to go. A brake upgrade is also recommended. F80 M3 brakes are much better and look oem 👌🏻
Great point and a complete oversight from us, although with only 10 E46 GTR's ever built they are easy to forget 😁 although we should have thought back to our 'need for speed' gaming days Thanks for adding your ownership experience 👍

*Own a 2013 Competition package, She’s high maintenance but I luv her!*
These are the main issues:
Rod bearings
Engine mounts
Valance cover and other engine gaskets
DCT pan
Throttle actuators
I've heard these are reliable and your video helps with that belief.

Thanks for adding this info it adds some really good insight into the bearing material

I'm looking to buy an E89 Z4 and swap the engine with an S65B44, thanks for this video.
That sounds awesome 😎
Watch out for lifting rear window trim rubbers (E93)
Great to know and certainly something to look out for 👍
