Player character controller (movement code) is in fact an extremely nice candidate for a protection hook because it's executed exactly once per simulation frame (typical 60 times per second, regardless of output framerate) and has relatively few inputs and low variability in execution complexity or time. It won't decrease or increase in number of invocations, which could result in lag spikes. However attention needs to be paid to how much code exactly is wrapped and emulated, the developer would want it to look overbearing while not actually consuming a lot of processor time. Worst thing you could do is put the hook on enemy type or entity type or draw type, as well as on rare one-off events or things dependent on person's hardware and settings, because it usually won't show up in performance profile when measured by developer, but will hit you like a brick when it hits, these things will find a way to trigger Murphy's Law, i speak from painful experience (not in game protection but various soft realtime optimisation work). Ask yourself whether you'd prefer a consistent few % performance sacrifice every frame, or rather an occasional small lag spike of 5ms instead becoming a large lag spike of a quarter of a second. Of course you'd rather have exactly none of this pest and associated preservation hazard.
Denuvo is still there running, only having its calls bypassed with the crack. The only way to actually get the game without Denuvo is when the publisher removes it.
@@aethericAnuranIn most cases publishers don't care about removing denuvo as long as the game that they are selling runs on modern systems. Denuvo removals are really rare even if the game is more than 5 years old. Being able to play a game in offline state is desirable for most gamers with no connection or unstable connection, so people are willingly to take performance costs.

Still the worst performing game is one that fails to validate its DRM on start: literally just wasting storage doing nothing. While far from ideal; I'd prefer running an untrusted encrypted bypass (such as from Empress) in a further sandboxed or virtualized environment over not playing at all. Though that's getting up there with just buying black-market 🔑s (acquired through credit card fraud or from reviewers).
did you test same versions? It would be a bit useless to test v1.4 fully optimized with denuvo vs v1.0 release cracked. Hogwarts legacy was also a strong contender, giving 20% boost in CPU scenarious (hogsmeade), videos are around on YT.
So, it is usually better in some aspects and we wouldn't even have to discuss performance if they didn't shovel the pointless software crap in the first place.
Waiting for Black Myth Wukong to get cracked. But searching around i've come to realize that Denuvo has effectively won against piracy. Only very few games with Denovo ever get cracked. And usually by the same person (who has retired...).
Need 5 years since no donation for the hacker. Mostly who want its to be cracked but they don't praise the hacker hard work. I guess. That is why empress and cpy don't play in denuvo anymore. They said they didn't get enough donation to support their work. Cracking denuvo need expensive method.
i know yt will delete my comment. what we do indian is get steam acc for games like this for 5dollor or less, got black myth, unbound etc like this. they are shared acc ment to play offline but u can play story games easily, can connect to online if u want but since shared acc the ur save will be accessed by others. i can write the names where to get it as it will instantly get deleted. lets see if comnt stay i will reply to it.
Hubris, you just can’t escape it. Good thing all new games are just complete and utter dog shit anyway and you lose absolutely nothing by never touching them.
Somehow I think the point you're making gets lost when you crack DRM then add DRM that makes performance even worse. Don't get me wrong, from a technical standpoint the work that goes into these cracks is impressive but adding more DRM is just weird.
well they are protecting their method how they crack it so they can crack other new games ,if they release it without it, denuvo will study the crack and patch it and the method becomes obsolete
I'm glad you are taking an interest in these topics, but I'll say is that I would encourage you to steer clear of this. You don't want to attack Empress. You don't want to defend Denuvo. I get it, you care about truth and facts, which is important. But at this point Denuvo is such a blight upon new video games, why on Earth would you make a video defending them in anyway? I can't support this. Good luck.
Let's say, just for example, that a cracked game has slightly less FPS, than the DENUVO version. Does it matter? Not really. Beggars can't be choosers, and a pirated game is still money spared. A bunch of pirated AAA games would save hundreds of dollars for someone, that can be used, to buy a better GPU or CPU, or whatever, to have even more FPS and a better gaming experience. Piracy is still gold, and if you liked a game, later on you can still buy it, or support the developers in some way.
both empress and fitgirl are terrible FitGirl doesn't test her repacks, if the crack she uses for her repack crashes every 5 minutes she still releases here repack empress putting DRM into her stuff is also terrible, why does she even remove denuvo if she's gonna put some other worse crap in.
Well, I wouldn't say it's worse, because you play it for free and offline, unlike the official exe. I hate Fitgirl repacks because they use so much CPU power I can't even use my computer while they are installing, which can take a long time even with 8 cores.
@@kunka592 I hate fit girl since a game I got for her was crashing ever 5 minutes, and than I checked DODI release description and it said "replaced crack" so obviously FitGirl didn't test her repack, and DODI did.

Basically, crack bypasses Denuvo - doesnt disable it. So, its running regardless.
Empress cracks disable some parts of Denuvo, and this affects performance of each crack differently.
