      NFINWIFN I don't think you get it. what he's saying is PC parts are simply more expensive in AUS. Not because of the exchange rate, just in general. What you can find easily in the US for 100USD can easily cost $350 USD in AUS.

    This guy does a really good job with comparing and analyzing games, from this and Digital Foundry, it's the best source of seeing how games compare from PC to console, in fact, they should hire you with how well of a job you do.

      Steven Rose I'm just grateful that the myth about the PC being expensive is being broken, too much misinformation goes around from console gamers about the PC which a lot of which is outdated information and as we know, building a PC to play compete with the consoles is doable for similar price or just a bit more and the the running cost are much less so overall the PC works out cheaper depending how you use it.

    • @MrMleczkp

      Sony announced it. Every new game coming out on ps4 have to have ps4 pro support. But in most cases its just simple upping the resolution to 1440-1800p and than either up scaling to 4k or downsampling to 1080p. Only few games so far have actual effort put in their pro patches. Last of us remaster and rise of the tomb raider are examples of good pro patches. Shame sony locked pro power and made it preform like standard ps4 if there are no patches its only sony decision if it didnt pro could easilly brute force more preformance than ps4 in unpatched games.

    • @meateaw
      @meateaw 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Edit: I'm wrong see below.
      Original:
      Arguably this is incorrect.
      Every ps4 game will benefit, not in graphics quality, but in framerate. Not all games on the ps4 run without dropping frames. The pro may not get any extra graphical bells and whistles, but every game will be less likely to drop frames.
      Note: for the games that didn't drop frames _at all_ the benefit will be in lower fan speeds or lower console temps. Not particuarly useful! Don't misunderstand me! But there are very few games that are actually locked at their target framerate to the point where they never ever drop frames.
      You are right that the extra performance won't increase visual fidelity unless the games actually bother to release a patch. But smoothness is a factor of available processing power, and the pro has more, therefore it will be closer to the target framerate. (Which for Console is *typically* 30 frames per second)

    • @Airbigbawls
      @Airbigbawls 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If there is no patch for a ps4 game out before the ps4 pro, you will not see any benefit. Graphics, fps and any other changes.

      Yeah. The 3GB version is a sham. That's really only good for 1080p, and just barely. I think GTA V used more than that at 1080p, without maxing out the settings. I have 8GB of vRAM, and I think that that will be the standard in 2017, as 2GB was in 2012 and 2013. I'll upgrade soon enough. 4K is very motivating. :P

    • @TheBcoolGuy
      @TheBcoolGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean, many people are going to stick with 1080p for a long time. With lower resolutions than 4K, higher resolutions have almost always meant more real-estate, because it was all at 100% scaling. Now, with 4K, though, I have 125% scaling on a 28" monitor, and everything is very small. My vision is quite good for nearby objects, but I have to sit properly (enough) at my desk to see everything alright.
      This scaling means that having higher resolutions will be less important, as it will only increase the graphical fidelity of icons, sprites, and assets in general. It won't be too much to fit on a 1080p screen. I mean, we can only see so much detail.
      I would definitely not recommend upgrading from 1440p, especially an expensive 1440p monitor, now, or for quite a while. 4K is still quite new and unnecessary, though very cool. There will be 5K, 6K, and 8K monitors, or at least TVs, when it comes to that last one. They won't be very useful, though. You might as well just get a 4K monitor, so long as this type of display is what's used. Stick to 1440p until your monitor breaks, or something like that. If you've invested much in sub-4K, you need to savour your investment. 4K will be as cheap as 1080p has been for years now, in only a few years. Somewhere around the beginning of the new decade. These panels will be much better than even more expensive panels that are sold now, too. 1440p looks great. At least, if you haven't seen 4K. ;P

    • @SoadAddict91
      @SoadAddict91 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 1440p/144Hz combo is pretty much the best for gaming in my opinion, esp. for FPS', racing games, flight sims, anything competitive. Even 1080p/144Hz is good, but has to be at least 120Hz for me. I can't game on a lesser refresh rate anymore, hurts my eyes and gives me headaches.

    • @TheBcoolGuy
      @TheBcoolGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SoadAddict91 Well, given that you now games on a 144Hz monitor, how much do you actually game on a 60Hz one, honestly? I don't think that headache thing is based in reality. We can see a difference between 60FPS and 144, but 144Hz is way past the line of diminishing returns for the eyes. Really, 60Hz is plenty. Below that isn't very good, but I'd never want to use a 1440p monitor. That's so low-res now. 4K 60Hz>1440p 144Hz.

    • @SoadAddict91
      @SoadAddict91 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheBcoolGuy Everybody sees things differently and I have seen examples of people easily differentiating 120Hz or higher from 60Hz. 4k is awesome when it comes to graphical fidelity in terms of resolution, but I'll wait until an affordable 4k/144Hz option becomes available.

    The biggest disappointment I have with the PS4 Pro (and it seems a lot of others do too) is that it really isn't a 60 fps machine outside of a select few cases. I know Sony was kind of handcuffed with their CPU choice (I assume it's the same as the base PS4 for compatibility reasons), and 1440p-4k at 30 fps isn't a bad way to go for budget hardware like a console. Still, 60 fps or higher is the defining factor for a premium gaming experience in my opinion, and very few people currently have the displays necessary to take advantage of 4k & HDR; the latter is also plagued by horrible input lag in all but the most expensive displays. This sort of thing will get better over time, but the PC wins on this reason alone in my book.

      Yup man u are on the money here.
      Jaguar notebook cpu used in ps4pro has many advantages, its small, cheap to
      produce, very power efficient(around 10TDP compared to 95 TDP of high end intel
      i5/i7 cpu's) easy to keep cool and silent, it just has one major flaw- its
      extremly fucking slow ¯\(ツ)/¯

      DrearierSpider1 1080p 60 probably was not possible due to the crappy cpu. At witcher 3 it would have probably choked the performance to 50s or some other cpu hard games

      I've finished Doom this weekend but didn't know it supported RTSS overlay so I didn't know how much of the GPU it was using. I'm amazed by how low the usage was across the campaign.

    • @stadusunids
      @stadusunids 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ***** The i7-9xx supports LGA 1366 not 1156, please correct me if I'm wrong. I have an i7-870 on my 1156 board and I think it's as far as it goes. Also the purpose of the series is to keep the money spent on the masher as close as possible to what's spent on the PS4(Pro)...

    • @Honeypot-x9s
      @Honeypot-x9s 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Michel Victor you maybe right, I'm not entirely familiar with older intel platforms. But my point was more about getting the highest end CPU for the socket that could be reasonably achieved... Open world games as been stated, do tax the hell out of CPUs, even moderns ones. Also his choice of GPUs, I'm personally has had bad luck with Gigabyte Gaming G1 graphics cards. Nothing against GTX1060 its self other then it being just another Nvidia card and I would liked to see a change... I recently built a $450 console masher for a friend, using an old Dell with a old haswell i7-4770T (low power), 8GB 1600Mhz low profile Samsung DDR3, and a reference design RX480 8GB I snagged used at a local PC repair shot for $190. The Dell included everything needed: 300watt supply, 500GB HDD, 8GB Ram, i7-4770T, windows 10 version 1607, and sleek industrial case for $175 eBay.. Add in used $190 RX480 8GB reference from MSI.. total comes to $365... needless to say my friend is very happy. And it mashed the potato masher pro if his numbers are correct. Even if I got the GPU new $250, adding shipping for the Dell off eBay ($200 total for the dell) comes to around $450, all in. If your budget was $500, that is a PC, and a brand new games or several slightly older games...
      But I have seen amazing deals on eBay used market for GPUs and CPUs. I spotted a R9-390 for $150, I seen a Fury for $200. For CPUs i seen things from Xeons and I-series CPUs used selling for dirt cheap, sometimes cheaper with a used system like in the case of my friends Dell I got him $175 for him not just a high end hard to find CPU, but also included essentially an entire system.. which ini used a shitty evga GT710 for video out..that I am curious if I can use it for anything maybe video encoding/capture with OBS or something...

      Buy Intel xeon e or x5450 (try finding already modded one, so you dont have to mod it yourself or even worst, mobo)

      P35
      G41
      P45
      650i

      Doge can illuminati noscope I'd like to see your math. A 1st Gen i5 is like $35. You can get cheap used parts on Craigslist or Ebay and easily build a system as good/better than the "Potato Masher" or the "Pro" for under $500. You could find a fully built system on CL for ~$200-300, then add the GTX 1060 or RX 480. Neither card uses much power so your PSU can be garbage and it'll still work. People are always selling their older systems for dirt cheap just to get rid of them, or so they can upgrade something else.

      A Fury would be a disaster if you paired it with this particular build lol. If you had a higher capacity psu and a better cpu then maybe. Honestly for most people building/upgrading a budget system a 470/480/1060 would be the better buy, even if they're losing a little bit of performance.

      I use Premiere for all my regular work, but for TH-cam Vegas is faster (except when it comes to rendering). Simple transitions and other effects are much quicker in Vegas, and I use a lot of them. I'm sure I could switch to Premiere, but so far I haven't felt the need.

    • @jermgaming

      I don't love the results I get with Vegas, no argument there. The MainConcept codec is the only one that can balance respectable render times with a high enough bitrate for good 1440p or 4K uploads (in Vegas). I haven't messed with HEVC/h265 yet, to be fair.
      I'm always down to learn something new, and I've been experimenting with YT's compression for a few years. Send me an email if you don't mind, so I can flag it. If it's comments, I might lose it in the crowd. At your convenience, of course!

      Really the 8GB MSI RX 470 could turn any system, with a 300 watt psu, an 8 thread cpu and, 8GB of fast ram, into a 4k rig. For potentially less than 800 dollars one could build a cross fire system with this gpu and rock 4k!!! 500 watt

    I hope that's all you're using it for. 8gb is gonna be abysmal on virtual machine running Win10. But, if you ONLY use it for gaming, cool build.

    • @jermgaming
      @jermgaming  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Running a virtual machine isn't quite a mainstream necessity. That said, I've run plenty of VMs on 4 and 8GB systems, so yeah you could.
      I have 32GB in my desktop, but 8GB in my laptop. I use both for work, and they both work fine. 8 is still plenty for most people!

    • @TropicalPriest
      @TropicalPriest 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      True enough, then again, you generally want to ooze out as much functionality as you possibly can. You can, but you'll have to deal with the cursor flickering. I use my win10 laptop with 8gb running Fedora inside a VM (which has a 1gb minimum). I run at 4gb. And, it's still pretty slow. Could be a product of VBox, but I kinda doubt it. I think it's more based around Win10 being a resource hog on older hardware. I use my desktop machine for virtual images, 16gb, with 8gb+ assigned to the Vbox and it runs ten times smoother. The real issue is when it comes to upgrading your OS which takes absolutely forever on an under-powered machine. I didn't say you couldn't use it. I just said, you probably wouldn't want to. Since, it will take an hour to run a sys upgrade. Which, imo, that's abysmal. What image do you run? Also, I would take a little bit of an exception to the statement that most people just need 8gb. Tons of people are running 100 tabs in their Chrome. Along with 15 extensions. And, they never even reboot. So, I think for practical use, most people want 16gb so they aren't causing stalls because of improper use when multi-tasking. I used to repair cellphones. Some people would bring it complaining it ran slow. That was because they had 14 applications open at once. So, I disagree there. 8gb assumes that you're actually maintaining your machine. And, for a lot of people, most, that's not the case. Like I said, it seems like a good build for gaming. And, that's what the video is about, so well done. But, not so sure about some other things. Just wanted to throw that out there for anyone who would otherwise want that functionality.

    • @jermgaming
      @jermgaming  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most consumer PCs I see being sold (not high-end stuff, "regular PCs") still have 4-8GB. I don't disagree that 16GB would be nice, but most people seem to still be happy with 8GB or less. There are still millions of office PCs running 4GB, and they're totally fine. Most people are nowhere near power users. Heck, I was still editing video and doing design work with the Adobe suite on a 4GB laptop when I traveled as recently as early this year, and it was slow but still usable. I'm running W10 Pro, to answer your question.
      I'm not sure I agree with you about OS upgrade time being affected that much. I've done plenty of W7 installs on old 1-2GB machines for clients, and HDD speed appears to be the most consistent bottleneck. I also don't see high RAM usage during OS updates, so while I'm not outright disagreeing with you, I haven't noticed what you're referring to.

    • @TropicalPriest
      @TropicalPriest 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right about the bottleneck. That said, I upgraded to Fedora 25 using my laptop's virtual machine, and watched the ram spike to what I dedicated for that machine. I was curious about that claim, and I saw a few computers being sold with 4gb. But, very few. And, I'm pretty sure those are all running Win8. I actually meant your virtual image, but you answered my question. I'm really surprised you haven't considered using more linux distros with those machines with such low memory lol. Either way, take it easy. It's obvious we're not gonna agree. But, take care.

    • @jermgaming
      @jermgaming  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't use Linux distros on them, they were all for regular office
      workers for nonprofits, or for family members. I have to do enough
      training on simple stuff like creating zips and storing all important
      data on network drives, I don't think learning an entirely new OS with
      the downsides of Linux (for the average consumer) would be a good idea
      :-)
      For my VM, I used Linux a few times, but it was mostly so I could test things in older Windows environments. Linux might need a lot more RAM, I'd defer to you on that.

    So technically speaking, these specs wouldn't exactly cost $500 to get 4k... if anyone try to duplicate this build, hoping to get 4k. it would be over 750$. What the point of this video again? That you manage to savage parts from your old build with some additional parts that is less than $500 to reach 4k?

    • @DamnitMan88
      @DamnitMan88 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      JERMgaming You're saying if a person wants a $500 PC that does 4k, they will have to put effort and time into it? The kind of effort and time that the majority don't have because they are busy with their live? Because yes I researched the parts and put them together and it was noticeably over $800.. However if you're talking about USED parts.. that's stupid. Might as well buy a USED PS4. Save those times for something more important.Sorry I just don't see the relevant of this video.

    • @InsaneEnergy
      @InsaneEnergy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well first of all, these parts aren't "savaged" from his old build, this is the same build, he just swaps in and out the GPU from the 760 in the original videos, to the 1060 in the Pro videos. Secondly, these parts were bought used in 2014, so of course if you bought them brand new and without the deals he got, then yes, it would cost $750. But we're talking about what he payed back then. Today, you could get a Dell Optiplex with an i5 2400 for around $190 AUD (much less in USD). Slot in 4GB of RAM, a new PSU and a GPU, you could have a PC similar to this for around the same cash, but with better performance. But he's not here to do constant upgrades, this is just a build for experimenting.

    • @DamnitMan88
      @DamnitMan88 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      InsaneEnergy The title said 4k for under $500, so in that sense, people/i was under the impression that a computer under $500 was built, capable of doing 4k. Also there's no point in buying a PC in Australia, the shipping cost to the US would already cover the reduced price. Not only that, buying a cheap product and then upgrading up to save $$ is like buying a third-party product for one tenth of the original price. It's going to be garbage, unless you are doing an upgrade like this dude.

    • @InsaneEnergy
      @InsaneEnergy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Boring Banana Chicken Wing
      Well yes, it is $500 all up. It was $350 for the original build, and if we assume he sold the 760 and got a good deal on a 1060, that's fair.
      Uh, yes there is a point of buying a PC in Australia. It's called: Not being restricted to playing on a console. And I'll take that over a PS4 or Xbox any day of the week. And you're overestimating the shipping here. Like I said, if I got a Dell Optiplex with an i5, put in 4GB of extra RAM, a new PSU (doesn't even have to be high-quality) and a new GPU (probably 1050 ti to compete with the OG masher) it would be cheap as hell. These are all EXPERIMENTS. If you want to buy brand new hardware, you can do that. You want to buy used hardware? You can do that.

    • @DamnitMan88
      @DamnitMan88 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      InsaneEnergy The original build was $350?! Preposterous. Does that include the 760? I don't think so. The price of products doesn't increase over time. Even if the products were used. The price I added together were both from new and used parts, currently, both were over $700 before adding in the 1060. Unless he by some miracle found someone who was selling it and made some pretty bloody good deals, refer to my first comment to JERMgaming.

  • @5usp3c7
    @5usp3c7 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You’d need to get used parts to build it for under 500. I already entered in the memory, cpu, and GPU in pcpartpicker. I replaced the i5 750 with the i5 3470. The price is already $516.

    In the Witcher 3, Novigrad is LEAST demanding location in terms of graphics, however it can be argued that the area is CPU intense. I typically see about 70-75 fps, dipping as low as 60 fps while in Novigrad. But in places like Skellige, where you have more foliage, I argue that this is more intensive. I typically see 60-65 fps here with lows in the mid 40's. But to truly test the limits of a rig with Witcher 3, you gotta do it in the Fairy Tale Land at the end of Blood and Wine. I see a 45-50 fps AVERAGE in this area.

    Hey JERMgaming, since you still have $33 left after subtracting the GPU cost, do you think you might upgrade the CPU and RAM? You could probably get $40 if you sold your i5 750 based on what they are currently going for on ebay, putting you at $73 total. With that much money, you could upgrade your cpu to an X3470 Quad Core Hyper-Threaded Processor at 2.93Ghz($50), which I am sure you could overclock further, and you could add an extra 4GB of RAM, or perhaps a cooler upgrade if you are confident that 8GB will be enough for a while, which I think it will.

    Whether you prefer console or not, I don't understand why anyone would be exclusive to one medium. Why would you limit the variety of games you can play because you have a bug up your ass about frame rates? I game on PC and have a PS4. Which I think every PC gamer should do, have at least one console.
    Any third party title, DOOM, Battlefield, GTA, COD, etc...of course I have on PC because I want the best experience possible when playing games. But I have a PS4 because I like SONY'S first party titles. Because I don't know if you're aware of this but God of War, Uncharted, and The Last of Us aren't on PC and never will be. And I enjoy those games. Plus, Horizon and the new Spider-Man game look freaking awesome. Neither of which will be on PC by the way either. Playing games at 30fps isn't the end of the freakin' world.
    I'm also a huge Gears of War fan and was planning on getting an XBOX to play it. But when MS started PLAY ANYWHERE, I no longer needed to waste $400 on another console. And unless you're still playing 360 games, I don't see why you would. In fact, if I plan on buying another console in the future it'll be the Nintendo Switch.

    Calling this PC build a "4K $500" build is a bit misleading. It seems to be running only older titles at 4k at abysmally low settings at sub 30 fps. It's as much of a native 4k machine as the Pro is (which can do native 4k) on less GPU intensive titles, sure - but it too shouldn't be considered a 4k gaming device for modern AAA GPU intensive titles. But telling somebody you can build a native 4k gaming machine for 500 dollars is EXTREMELY MISLEADING and it's only going to make things frustrating for them. For example, according to Digital Foundry, not even a Titan X Pascal can do Dishonered 2 at 4k with a stable framerate. Let alone a 1060. But I guess, youtube click bait picture/title and everything.

      he said this is not a 4k machine just like the pro isn't. and dishonored is badly optimized on pc, a titan x will easily do 4k on dishonored. click bait sure, but that is what they advertised the pro for.

    • @InsaneEnergy
      @InsaneEnergy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      The Pro can't do 4k either. There's only a select few games (indie games and sports games) that can do it. Can the PS4 Pro do GTA V at 4k 60FPS? Didn't think so. Can this? Absolutely.
      Also, Digitalfoundry is right, a Titan X Pascal can't do Dishonored 2 at 4k at a stable frame rate. That's a problem with the game, not the GPU. The game is poorly optimized on PC.

      @jermgaming  7 ปีที่แล้ว +54

      Is Medium abysmally low? That's what GTA V and The Witcher 3 ran at, and they're both from 2015. DOOM was on the highest settings with a little res scaling.... and when was it sub-30fps? Got a timecode for me, or are you just complaining?

    • @lowhighkangLHK
      @lowhighkangLHK 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      JERMgaming Yeah, some of those are older legacy titles. GTA is a last gen game for example. For example the Pro is running several last gen titles like The Last of Us, Darksiders at native 4k 60 fps. This PC build isn't a 4k worthy build. Try running Dishonored 2 (recent AAA released game) with this build at 4k at medium or higher settings at 30 fps or better. Also, yes it's nice that it does Doom at 4k....with resolution scaling...which means it's not native 4k dude. Nobody serious about PC gaming considers this a legit Native 4k machine. It can do some titles at 4k, just as the pro is doing some titles at native 4k. Neither are native 4k reliable. Let me ask you an honest question. Outside cherry picking certain titles, do you feel confident that this PC build can run most of any modern released AAA game here on out at native 4k at graphical settings and frame rates you approve of? Probably not right? So okay, this isn't a 4k PC build. And my point stands, video and title are misleading.

    • @InsaneEnergy
      @InsaneEnergy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      LHK Kang Dishonoured 2 is hard to run on any PC, and that's not an inherent issue with the PC, it's a problem with the game. Doom can do native 4k, but for the smoothest experience it's best to pick resolution scaling. The Pro doesn't deliver native 4k either, usually 1800p with checkerboarding.
      Fuck off, console shill.

    While re-watching this video, I've come to realize that with the 33$ extra you had left after buying the GPU, you could have pitched in for a better CPU cooler and also have higher CPU speeds, just like the PS4 Pro, which would've made it even closer in terms of upgrades. Just a thought though.

      Well, if you're paying $500 for a PC, you're probably not spending several hundred dollars on a 4K TV.

      There aren't that many native 4k games the Pro can do. Most of them are checkerboarding from 1800p.

    Used parts = complete bullshit.

    • @idiotstick1527
      @idiotstick1527 7 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      You couldn't further from the truth IMO. I picked up a used q9650 for $30 and used 775 motherboard for $30 and added a 1050 ti and it tears up all new games. The vendors have warranties for the used parts, google even has a protection plan to add to the ebay parts. That cpu runs super cool and is begging for an overclock. Care to dive deeper why you think used parts = complete bullshit?

    • @CMSonYT
      @CMSonYT 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      used parts are amazing for anyone that doesn't want the latest and greatest.
      Like yeah, RX 480 is a great value, but below RX 470 is not, instead you'll want a used 7970. Also a used fury x is a good alternative to 1070 and will likely age like a 1080.
      And as stated before newer cpu tech isn't worth it.

    •  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Idiot Stick Why I think it's complete bullshit? I wasn't referring to the parts themselves, but its very obviously deceptive to use the price in the title as the main attraction of the video.
      Used part prices are never the same between two regions. I myself have religiously used used parts before and they have worked perfectly with no complaints from this side, sure, its a gamble, but the chances of it being a scam is rare.

      @sethgibowski8695 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +Idiot Stick I totally stand behind what you just said right there. I currently have a system with 4 Xeon W3530 cpus (a total of 16 cores, 32 threads), 24gb of ddr3 ram, a zotac gtx 1070 and it runs games no problem. The Xeon W3530 literally goes for $5 on ebay right now, and a quad socket board is usually about $60-120 depending on availability at the time. I stent no more than $650-700 getting that system up and running.

    • @idiotstick1527
      @idiotstick1527 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Okay, I see what your saying. But the best source for used parts is ebay and that's ubiquitously priced.

    • @ethancrane1556
      @ethancrane1556 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    • @qwert_au
      @qwert_au 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I would ask you why would someone purchase a device (console in this case) to play games on their 1080p or 4K TV when the device can't even output that high?
      Pointless and stupid argument, you don't buy a PC to play on a monitor.... You buy a PC to play games, on whatever display technology is appropriate for you.

    • @akaMerilairon
      @akaMerilairon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the gtx 1060 is in some titles already struggling with its badly measured 6gb vram (at least that goes for 4k). its just a pure 1080/1440p gaming card, it might be capable of playing in 4k for some time, but in the future it will be useless, since 6gb vram are just way too small. and to your question: normal/casual people just simply don't care, and i think when you're making a video of this kind that you are mostly targeting people that are knowing what they are about to do ;) like i said, the build itself is okay, or a funny project. but it doesn't make sense at all to only spend 500$ for a rig to play on 4k.

    • @ethancrane1556
      @ethancrane1556 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      kronicz1337 that is true but the 1060 is the most fitting card at that price range for 4k

    • @akaMerilairon
      @akaMerilairon 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      rx 480 would have been the better choice with 8gigs of vram, and also cheaper than the gigabyte gtx 1060. at least in germany, and probably because of the vram and its dx12 power more future proof :P

    I was going to buy the Pro, but my old GPU on my PC broke down on me (560ti, ancient.. I know). So instead of going for the Pro, I just ordered a 1070, to go with my old i5 2500k. Now I'm running all the newest games on Ultra with a steady 60-100fps at 1080p.

    When the potato masher was new and even now a really good alternative is to get a used Dell Precision T3500 and a GPU. Now that even more systems are going off lease you can get the 4 core nehalem Xeon version, 4-12gb of ram, a 500gb-2tb hard drive, and a 500w psu for $90-$170 on ebay. If you get a lower power GPU or one that only needs 6 pci you can use the stock PSU right from the get go.
    If you got a 960 used for ~$140 and the precision for ~$190 (with shipping) you end up with a reasonably powerful gaming computer for only $340 with Windows included in the form of the COA sticker, you just have to make Windows 7 install media which is crazy easy to do. The Precision uses a standard ATX psu so if you want to upgrade that you can quite easily and if you need a better processor (streaming, heavy video editing, something like that) you can get a six core Xeon X5670 for ~$100 on amazon which puts you in punching range of an i7 4770 or the FX 8350.

    Im running a very similar build to yours in what I call the "old rig" . Stuffed a 390x I got a deal on in it and 16 gigs of ram and it just kills 1080p . That ole i5-750 has served me well for a long time.

    Hey it's a PC enthusiast from 2018, you'd think the price for this build would drop after 4 years, but it's actually risen significantly. If you're looking to get a PC in the foreseeable future, don't build, buy prebuilt instead. There are tons of pre-built sales that are insane, just keep a keen eye on /r/buildapcsales on reddit.
