- imparfait vs passé composé in French with Pascal, these two tenses are trasnlated in one tense in English, so it is not easy to know which one to use in French, fortunately there are rules we need to learn to be able to use them with less problem. You are invited to learn them, at the end of the video you will find some sentences to translate in to French with the correct tense as an exercise, enjoy !

For me : « Je suis parti quand tu es arrivé “ >> « I left when you arrived “ >> passé composé . But for the imparfait , the sentence should be « je partais quand tu es arrivé « >> I was leaving when you arrived .

when you wrote j’ai mangeais in imparfait i got confused because my french teacher told us that in imparfait, you drop the -er and replace it with is conjugation. In this case -ais. so would j’ai mangais also be correct or no.

C'est vrai, l'imparfait va bien. Le passé composé montre que cette fois-ci, nous avons mangé à la cafétéria une seule fois.

Bonjour! So can someone please explain why do we then say ‘ J'étais absent hier” to say that I missed a class yesterday? I missed a class and that is a termination event which has already been completed in the past- why then the Imparfait? 🤔
