    Ah our beloved Cat.
Rest peacefully Cat Anderson. Always wished that your career had blossomed like Maynard's & Doc's.
However the rarity of your recordings make them tremendous and special forevermore.
    Ditto "Rocket Man" Bud Brisbois.
Cat you were one of my heroes. Set the bar so incredibly high. For all of us to aspire towards.
    Thank you, thank you,
    THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!

An excellent and sadly forgotten recording by the great Louis and a band of the best session cats in LA. Dick Spencer is on alto, Don Mensa on tenor and Cat Anderson on the mega high note tpt solo.

6 killer trumpet players is a bit extravagant…
At the same time, I’m a big fan of extravagance!

I just found this album in my vinyl collection, purchased when I was about 18 years old; I'm 61 at the moment. I miss reading through the jackets of those albums. Thanks for bringing this back to the future.

Thank you for sharing this juwel. My favorit is the tenorsax solo. I wish I had a mind like that, but I comfort myself with the poor fact that I can see the beauty and genius of it.

Thank you for posting this. No streaming service seems to have it and I’d lost my CD version. Louis Bellson lived in the S.F. Bay Area in his final decades and we were lucky to have him.

No problem. I put the whole album up since it's so wonderful and it seemed to be missing from the internet.

@radioguyy Great sound on that record. It just jumps off my vinyl copy.

@@hindskn this recording is one of the BEST of Louis’ entire career.
Featuring the top musicians in L.A., many from the Carson “Tonight Show”.
Great sound mix and “groove” among the band members due to the physical setup of the band as they were all communicating in their classic formation.
Louie had them set up in the studio exactly like they would when performing live, with trumpets on the top riser, Trombones below, and saxes on the bottom level.
Louis and the bass, guitar, and piano on risers to the right of the brass, facing forward.
“Intimacy of the Blues” has five movements:
      1:40 - first gear
      2:42 - second gear
3:50 - third gear (piano, drums)
4:20 - fourth gear (piano, drums, trumpets)
4:48 - fifth gear (Cat Anderson)

Louie was 51 when this was recorded. His album "150 mph" is another favorite. That was produced by Norman Granz

THANK YOU for your work on this session! I spent many lunch hours in my high school band room listening to this album with my buddies. Our band director was a great lead trumpet player himself, and he shared all his LPs with us-the biggest influence in my life bar none. I went on to major in trumpet performance, then a career as a trumpet player in Army bands, and now I teach high school orchestra. This recording, among others, is a touchstone for me.
