At 5:44 on the ventricular pacing there is no P wave. Does this mean that the heart is not generating an atrial depolarization on its own either? It seems that there should be a P wave without a pacer spiker immediately preceding it in ventricular pacing.

thank you --- just one question, is there a difference between an intrinsic beat and a native beat?? my textbook seems to use these terms interchangeably!

    • @Meducator01
      @Meducator01  5 ปีที่แล้ว

I imagine it’s the same thing, as an intrinsic beat is native to the cells. I don’t use the native term though so I couldn’t say for sure.

Why are some pacer spikes above the line. And others below?

    • @Meducator01
      @Meducator01  3 ปีที่แล้ว

when you say demand, can you say thats like partially paced like lets say 50% paced?
when you say fixed, does that mean 100% paced?

    • @Meducator01
      @Meducator01  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Demand means that the Pacer will kick in whenever the set threshold is met. Meaning, if they set a threshold of 50 beats per minute, the demand pacemaker will kick in to maintain a rate of at least 50 bpm. Yes, a fixed pacemaker would be 100% paced.

      Here’s what ChatGPT says:
The AMCA (American Medical Certification Association) exams often test EKG-related knowledge for roles such as EKG technicians or other allied health certifications. Here are some common areas and sample questions you might encounter on the EKG portion of the exam:
      1. Basic EKG Interpretation
Question: What does the P wave represent in an EKG?
      A. Atrial depolarization
      B. Ventricular depolarization
      C. Atrial repolarization
      D. Ventricular repolarization
      Answer: A. Atrial depolarization
      2. EKG Waveform and Intervals
Question: What is the normal duration of the PR interval?
      A. 0.04-0.10 seconds
      B. 0.12-0.20 seconds
      C. 0.20-0.30 seconds
      D. 0.30-0.40 seconds
      Answer: B. 0.12-0.20 seconds
      3. Heart Rhythms
Question: A heart rate of 150 beats per minute with narrow QRS complexes and absent P waves is most consistent with:
      A. Atrial fibrillation
      B. Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)
      C. Ventricular tachycardia
      D. Sinus tachycardia
      Answer: B. Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)
      4. EKG Lead Placement
Question: Where is the V4 lead placed in a standard 12-lead EKG?
      A. 4th intercostal space, right sternal border
      B. 4th intercostal space, left sternal border
      C. 5th intercostal space, midclavicular line
      D. 5th intercostal space, midaxillary line
Answer: C. 5th intercostal space, midclavicular line
      5. Heart Blocks
Question: In a second-degree AV block (Type II), what pattern is seen on the EKG?
      A. Prolonged PR interval with no dropped beats
      B. Progressively lengthening PR interval until a beat is dropped
      C. Normal PR intervals with random dropped QRS complexes
      D. No relationship between P waves and QRS complexes
Answer: C. Normal PR intervals with random dropped QRS complexes
      6. Myocardial Infarction
Question: ST-segment elevation in leads II, III, and aVF suggests an infarction in which part of the heart?
      A. Anterior
      B. Lateral
      C. Inferior
      D. Posterior
      Answer: C. Inferior
      7. EKG Artifacts
Question: Which of the following is a common cause of EKG artifacts?
      A. Patient movement
      B. Myocardial infarction
      C. Electrical conduction defects
      D. Heart failure
      Answer: A. Patient movement
      8. EKG Machine Troubleshooting
Question: What is the most appropriate action if the EKG tracing shows baseline wandering?
      A. Increase the speed of the machine
      B. Check for loose electrode connections
      C. Replace the EKG machine
      D. Instruct the patient to take deep breaths
Answer: B. Check for loose electrode connections
      9. Ventricular Rhythms
Question: What is the defining feature of ventricular fibrillation on an EKG?
      A. Regular rhythm with wide QRS complexes
      B. Chaotic, irregular waveform with no identifiable P waves, QRS complexes, or T waves
      C. Narrow QRS complexes with rapid rhythm
      D. Slow rhythm with prolonged PR intervals
Answer: B. Chaotic, irregular waveform with no identifiable P waves, QRS complexes, or T waves
      10. EKG Paper Measurements
Question: On standard EKG paper, what does one small box represent in time?
      A. 0.01 seconds
      B. 0.02 seconds
      C. 0.04 seconds
      D. 0.10 seconds
      Answer: C. 0.04 seconds
Key Areas to Study for AMCA EKG Exam:
      1. Electrophysiology basics (e.g., depolarization, repolarization, cardiac cycle).
      2. Waveform interpretation (P wave, QRS complex, T wave, U wave).
      3. Rhythm identification (normal sinus rhythm, arrhythmias, heart blocks, etc.).
      4. 12-lead EKG interpretation (leads, axis deviation, myocardial infarction).
      5. EKG setup and troubleshooting (lead placement, artifact causes).
      6. Heart anatomy and physiology (cardiac conduction system, coronary artery supply).
