    Knitting with two colors (OR color blocking OR intarsia) is a super fun way to create a custom design on your knitted project. We love uneven color blocking and contrasting colors.

    What a fabulous tutorial. I looked at a few others but the knitters all held the wool in their left hands, which is obviously just another way of doing it, but I was so pleased to see that Joanne holds her wool in her right hand, which is the way I was taught (by my dad!!), so it made it much easier for me to follow :)
    I will definitely be coming back to JoannesWeb when I next need to learn something!!

      Thank you! Welcome to our site! I love men that knit. I believe that if more men knitted, we would have a calmer world. Someone once sent me a picture of a football player, with his huge shoulders and helmet, sitting at the bench, knitting. Loved it! Have a wonderful weekend.

    Thank you for this very informative video. This is the best tutorial on intarsia that I've seen and I learned how to do it in the first 12 minutes of this video. You showed on which side to do the joining (wrong side) and your verbal explanations were very clear and concise. Thank you a million times over. I had watched other videos yesterday on this topic and was struggling with the joins until I watched this video.

    You have no idea how helpful your videos have been to me. I was trying to color block but saw all the "strings" of different colored yarns on the back and said to myself "there is no way I am going to go back and try to weave all the strings/yarn together! there's gotta be a better way". I saw your video and am pleased to say that it looks a whole lot better. No yarn/strings anywhere!! yay! Again, thank you so much. You are my official "go to" of knitting videos!

    This is so helpful! I had almost given up on my project but then found this and it gave me the confidence to try again! I have a question though: can you introduce a new colour on the purl side or do you always have to introduce it on the knit side? My project has two "colour introductions" and one of them is on an odd row (knit), the other one on an even row (purl). Anyone can answer my question? Thanks!!

    • @JoannesWeb
      @JoannesWeb  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use your new color at any time. Just make sure you knit the first row, since you don't want the stitching to show. We have a 2 color swirly hat that explains how and why. th-cam.com/video/Apj_Szr3Un8/w-d-xo.html&lc=Ugy25xHPg1bldxh3zDx4AaABAg

    I've knitted many projects, and I've done color blocking the way you did it. I guess I'm just a bad knitter, because my stitches are not even ' v ' like yours. Mine look more like ticks (One side longer than the other) but consistent!
    Also, the area where the colors change don't look smooth like yours. Mine's bumpy.Grrrrrrr
    I watched your tutorial to see what I've done wrong, but I guess it's just the tension. Mine's terrible for a person who has done so many sweaters and tops... Your tutorial is wonderful though, thanks!

    • @JoannesWeb
      @JoannesWeb  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Siew. Thank you for contacting us. It's possible you are not having an even tension when you change colors or yarn. Or maybe you are not changing yarns on the wrong side of your work. Be well!

    Hi. Can I introduce the new colour on both a knit row and a purl row or just a knit row? Thank you. :) I'm brand new to knitting in general and still don't get the whole gist of it.

      It's the same way, as long as you change your colors toward the middle of your work. Always on the inside (wrong side).

    In this video, the right side rows were all knits and the wrong side rows were all purls. Can intarsia be done with each row having both knits and purls (e.g. K5 P5 on one right side row)? That way you could do a basketweave pattern with each square alternating colors and stitches.Could you please show how it would be done. I appreciate it. Thanks.

    • @JoannesWeb
      @JoannesWeb  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      jaysothi1 Yes, it can. You can alternate knits and/or purls on the right side, anytime you wish, as long as the changing of the yarn is done in the wrong side. This means that if you are purling with one color and want to continue purling with another yarn, you pass the working yarn to the back (wrong side) and pick up the next yarn. Be well!

  • @laylaelizabetha1654
    @laylaelizabetha1654 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video but I have a question, since there are 3 separate yarns but only two colors showing, how will you lock them? Also, if you want to wash the knitting product (blankets, scarf, etc.) do you dry wash them? or just regular wash?
    Thanks in advance :)

    • @JoannesWeb
      @JoannesWeb  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Layla Elizabetha (Bellatrice) Layla, please watch how they are locked in the back. They "cross", so there is no gap between one and the other. You need 3 in order not to have the long strands in the back. You wash your knits as what the yarn you are using tell you to. If it's acrylic like this one, I wash it by hand and dry it flat on a towel.
