    A lot of these comments say that what you’re doing intarsia but I’m fairly certain you’re actually doing a combination of intarsia and fair isle, which is something i’m doing on a project i’m working on atm so this video was very helpful! thanks!

    So happy, after all these years of knitting Xmas stockings with names, to see a method for doing this!!!!❤❤❤❤ 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 some how I’ve figured it out but grit my teeth through the part of the chart for knitting the names!!!!

      So glad to help! It’s so hard to find knitting tutorials if you don’t know specific names for specific techniques. And I still don’t know what to call this exactly 🤣

    Hello there. I'm no pro at knitting and I'm not here to teach you. Just sharing what I learned, you can look it up and decide for yourself...
    There are several colourwork techniques in knitting.
    Intarsia is one of them and is done as you described it, with a yarn bobbin or small ball for each individual colour section. It's mainly used when you knit big blocks of colour.
    You opted for not having a bunch of bobbins, which makes complete sense with that chart, and resorted to a different technique called Stranded Colourwork, also known as Fair Isle.
    Resuming, from my knowledge, what you showing is not Intarsia, it's Stranded knitting.
    I hope you don't take offense with my comment, it's not meant to be. We are all learners.

      Thanks for commenting! No offense taken. I honestly wasn’t sure if it would be considered stranded just because it’s not for the whole row 😅 but good to know!

    I can’t thank you enough for this. I’ve spent days looking for a video on this topic because my pattern says to carry the yarn behind each motif. Thank you for a very clear demonstration!!

    You are knitting "fair Isle" and not Intarsia!

      i thought fair isle was particular to the shetland islands not necessarily a technique.

    I am doing a patch work cover using intarsia so I don't need to sew squares I snip and retie my yarn ever six rows and I don't twist I knit 2 as 1 for the new yarn

      @@woolnwords depending on how you use the yarn u get squares, uneven blocks or stripes
      Doing 50 stitches per yarn so 6 balls of yarn so 300 wide

    Next time, try a plain background. It’s easier on the eyes that way.

    • @woolnwords
      @woolnwords  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely! I’m working on getting a new background hopefully soon. Thank you for your feedback!
