Any song is only ever as good as the composer and singer can make it good, so saying Japanese is always better would be flat out false. Songs in their original language have the advantage that the lyrics and instrumentals were made to fit each other though, while a translated cover would usually need to make compromises to fit the beat without losing the meaning of the original lyrics.

FE games always had an artstyle reflecting popular fantasy anime of their time and were extremely Japanese in both character archetypes and their relationships. I don't know where this kind of "it's wasn't this anime before!!1" sentiment comes from, I assume it's because people were able to overlook it more when it was sprites and text rather than 3D models with voice actings. But to anyone familiar with Japanese media the intent has always been clear. I find this specially baffling because if people are proudly talk about pre-Awakening FEs we're talking mostly fan-translated games that made no effort to hide the japanese tropes at play like some of the official translations do.
The English version definitely has its (very brief) moments, the part from Alear and Lumera staring across the rings to Alear facing the fell dragon feels good with the video, however, it just feels weird to my ears…
Havent beat the game yet on Maddening, and I took a 5 month break because my character died from a 13% Accuracy with a 1% crit. It was a Hit with a Crit. I just lost it.
The jp singing just feels much more subdued to me. The English version has the issue of pushing an English square peg through a jp cirle hole, but I feel like the added cheese makes it more fun and charming. And with the engling version its much easier to connect dots from the lyrics to certain characters, emblems and story stuff, without having to look up a translation while listening
Hmm, I played the game in Japanese because I found the English dubbing a bit too hard to work with. I’m also learning Japanese so it made sense to have the dialogue in its original form to listen to. The English version of this song didn’t sound as fitting. The Japanese is definitely better to me. This is one instance where the English just didn’t do it for me. Edge of dawn was much better adapted and so was lost in thoughts all alone. It can absolutely be done well in both languages. However, in this instance the original gets the mark.

We can't fully judge this version, not unless we can understand the lyrics. The only thing that made english cringe was the super forward lyrics. Everything else was really good. I would also like to say that from the limited japanese I have, it sounds like more or less the same meaning as English's version, which is still cringe
