- The votes are in and it has been decided, (thanks to all of you) the next song from RUSH for me to react to is, "The Spirit of Radio" off their 1980 album 'Permanent Waves'
Even Covid couldn't keep me away from reacting to this amazing trio!

Permanent Waves is my favorite Rush Album, The Spirit Of Radio, Free Will, Natural Science, Jacobs Ladder, Entre Nous and Different Strings are all bangers but that being said I'd love to hear your take on The Fountain Of Lamneth, the first of the side long epics off of Caress Of Steel, and the precursor to 2112 and Cygnus. Another thats kind of a deep cut I think you might like is Losing It, featuring electric violinist Ben Mink, one of the few times the band employed a guest musician on one of their songs and he killed it. Loving your reactions so far keep up the good work and Rush on! 😊🤜

It's great to watch them perform this Live! One of my favorites is from the 2004 SARS Concert in Toronto, with the Rolling Stones, Paint it Black, to open this song! Sorry you got COVID, hope you get well soon!

I love how upbeat Rush’s music sounds. Neil pointed out both the positives, creative freedom, and the negative, the business side, of music. The idea of the changing tempo and music styles throughout the song are meant to simulate someone turning the radio dial and here all these different musical styles. Another interesting song to check out is “Analog Kid”.

Clockwork Angels tour is unique, the only time RUSH ever featured other musicians playing with them, it sets CA apart from all other RUSH performances.

After Rush's allowance into the R&R HOF, the band paid it forward by nominating one of their influences, Yes. Yes's masterwork, imo, is "Roundabout." Some good starter songs might be "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" or "I've Seen All Good People" or whatever someone else could suggest? 'Til the next one, feel better soon!

It's actually a Red Barchetta that Neil is driving in the first verse here; I think she'll really like the performance from Exit Stage Left.

Donna Halper was the DJ in Cleveland, Ohio to first play Rush on the radio, in 1974. The first song was Working Man!🤘🎸

Thanks for your reaction, I like the way of choosing the songs by voting, I feel that the older songs will always win, the new songs from 1982 onwards are more conventional songs and they get lost in the immensity of music but I have favorite songs from that time too. I hope the voting continues and I hope you get better soon, greetings

Great reaction, this was their hit song on the radio also. Hope and pray you recover quickly. I remember leaving the show, about where the entrance was, in 1979 Hollywood FL. they did an encore, this was one of their songs they were playing. I
heard ("rush t shirts") ("rush t shirts") then Geddys sings, "the sound of salesman" as Im walking past, (I used to wonder what that line meant in the song) I heard that song a thousand times by then and, apparently my sub-sub consciousness, couldn't put that together, until Geddys was saying "buy from this man, so we can get back to Canada" lol (concert hall, salesman)". "oh I get it now" but Ill blame it on good weed back in the seventies lol. best wishes to u and yours
After hearing the lyrics I started understanding what he was saying about salesman. These lyrics really make you think and I love reading all the comments like this one because I get to learn so much more.

@@WhimsyMeadows I did not unfortunately get any t-shirts, lol, later shows I did, but everything with rush paraphernalia overtime got lost. I think I Have some concert pics left and one rush t shirt left from summertime tour in w.p.b. fl. that was 2005 probably, Im outside Gainesville fl today. I still play rush music on the electric guitar I like that now and then, so once your a fan your always a fan.Im requesting to be buried with a bible and rush hemispheres lp, in my air conditioned casket! lol see you next time

I first heard this song on the radio in late 1979 I bought permanent waves in early 1980 and have been obsessed with Rush ever since. I was 12 then, I’m going to be 57 this year.

Neil has so many profound lyrics in his writings but to me the one here is EPIC.. "One likes to believe in the FREEDOM of music but glittering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of INTEGRITY "!!!!!!!!!

I love music which is something I got from my parents as they never prevented me or my sister and brother from listening to any music. This journey has many paths all filled with awesomeness 🤩

Whether it was intended or not, this video is one of the best tributes to one of the greatest bands.
From the day of its release until now, there has never been another song like it. It's perfect in so many ways, lyrically, melodically, and just the overall structure of the song. Everything is in the Spirt of Radio. We may have actually lost the actual spirit of radio to corporate and commercial interests but this song will live on forever.
@@auntcleo1997 this song said it all. I loved everything about it. The way the music started, all the sounds, the effects, the drumming, bass and effects of the guitar. The lyrics were brilliant. I cant wait for more Rush lol

All the different change ups in the music reflect the different channels on the radio.
Everybody has their favourite way of listening to or watching Rush videos and since there is a great deal of variety you go with what was suggested. There will always be someone who whines it is not the right version. LOL
I love live versions but this cartoon version is also a lot of fun.

Then I felt bad for doing that so I made it public again lol. I trust in my public and want to give all of you a voice and a choice. I get emotional that I will never see Neil again. 8 tomes wasn't enough. 1977 was first time 2011 was last. It's hard to go on without them

Just to note....a lot of viewers might think this was the original version....it is not. This was done by the band after Neil's passing in 2020. Hence , the tribute at the very end. Still one of their very best songs ever. As always, RIP to "The Professor".

why do Americans always pronounce 'Peart' as 'Pert''? It is pronounced Pee-art. Sorry but it really bugs fans.
Correct, it is pronounced P-ear-t with an "ear" between the first and last letter. However, I'm guessing most fans have bigger worries in their lives. Don't fret, I'm sure Ms Whimsy will get it right. She's new to Rush and deserves some slack. Don't you agree?

I love the reactions that you have but sometimes people are steering you to the wrong video you should be watching you should have seen the one where they're at their own Studio doing it not these cartoon ones about the best cartoon winner there is is 2112 after that TH-cam either Watch Studio versions of it or live versions of it like YYZ Natural Science like I said these are great songs although Natural Science you should just listen to the studio version it'll give you a science lesson as your listening
Case in point, "Tom Sawyer" at Le Studio.
