    I've owned my 22' Westerly Cirrus for decades. The perfect "pocket yacht", it'll take you anywhere.

    My dream boat is a flicka 20 but lately I've been drooling over the westerly pageant 23, such a cool little boat.

      I have a westerly 22 cirrus. You might want to look at those also. 6' headroom, 1gm10 yanmar inboard diesel, enclosed head (no holding tank). Trailerable. Yet very seaworthy. It has a fin keel unlike the odd looking 22 that has twin keel. The cirrus is often compared to a flicka. Sailing nahoa got stuck in b.c. for coved sailed one around. They have a boat walk through

    • @PyeGuySailing
      @PyeGuySailing 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scott.wallace8625 very nice boat as well, I really liked the idea of the bilge keel though. Don't need a specialized trailer, can go into tidal planes, don't need a cradle. Those episodes episodes of nahoa got me interested in the westerly. Not that I wouldn't be happy to have one, they're really cool boats as well.

      @@PyeGuySailing yep if you are going bilge keel the westerly is the boat. If i see a centaur at a good price i would have a hard time walking away

    • @PyeGuySailing
      @PyeGuySailing 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@scott.wallace8625 centaurs are tough brick houses of a boat, but imo uuuuugly. The cirrus and pageant are beautiful, but that's just a personal preference. I did get to see how well they sailed though because I use to watch "keep turning left" before he left youtube. Amazing TH-cam series of a guy sailing around the uk in small boats and near the end he picked up a centaur.

      @@PyeGuySailing if you want a pretty bilge keel you want a sadler .
      Sadler penned the conteser 32 then started his own company sadler yachts . Same lines but twin skin hulls. Fast ,pretty and pretty much unsinkable. Maybe a hunter legend could keep with it in bilgey form but nowhere near as pretty and allot more money.

    Hey Lady K Sailing.
    Just wanted say thankyou for helping me to make my mind up up about making the leap from my Leisure 23 to a Westerly 33 Duscus. Your video on the history of westerly really sealed the deal and last week end i finaly had my new girl Argosea crained in on the Kent coast of England UK.
    Shes a real beauty. So looking forward to new adventures ahead.

    CDR(RNVR) Rayner was a writer as well. His "Escort" (about his time as an escort ship commander in the Battle of the Atlantic) is a very good read that showcases his love of the sea, professionalism and sense of humor. He also wrote "The Enemy Below" that was turned into a very good movie in the 1950s.

    I believe Westy's are also rather famous for thier twin-keeler(s?) ie: the Centaur. Meant to sit on the tidal flats of England, they do just as well on the muddy bottomed Chesapeake. Very sturdy boats@

    • @ewantheboat
      @ewantheboat 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah , they made about 2500 centaurs , most of which are still going , loads of their boats came in bilge keel versions

    • @stevenoble4176
      @stevenoble4176 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm in the Uk and I bought a bilge keel Centaur two weeks ago. 1969 model, original Volvo Penta MD2B engine, bomb proof! We have a tidal range of up to 12m (that's like 36') so many of the moorings around the UK dry out at low water, especially on Spring tides, so twin keel is essential.

    • @yepiratesworkshop7997
      @yepiratesworkshop7997 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've sailed my Centaur around the Chesapeake, then got into a steel schooner. This year, I'm "downsizing" back to my old Centaur. Believe it or not, it was more fun. Also, it's not hard to "dig out" the Centaur when aground on sand bars. The keels act like a tunnel and blast out a channel. On mud, it's a little harder to get out because the mud is so sticky. I found that if I "wiggle" her butt a bit while blasting in reverse, she'll dig herself out of the Chesapeake mud, too.

      Yea I mean boaty mcboat face says it all.
      If I had a yacht company I would call it Renigade . I would make 3 boats a 36 Renigade 360 a 42 Renigade 420 both in bilge keel option . Then I would have a lifting keel flagship the Renigade 666 .
      All would come with or without deck saloon. Center or aft cockpit , sloop or sluter ketch . You could have any colour you like so long as it's black with a gold stripe. Engine would be a yanmar 25% bigger than you need .
      Fit options would be our fit or take a sailaway and fit it yourself .
      The 360 and 420 would be Crouse boats walking a line straight down the middle of comfort , speed , style and cost . The mission of the company would be bang for buck.No expense spared where it really matters every expense spared where it really dousnt.
      The 666 would only be available in sailaway for race teams to fit out themselves. Target being world's fastest mono under 70 ft . World's cheapest mono over 65 ft . Purpose to win races and make us famous to sell more 360s and 420s .
      Nice day dream lol.

    The IBM rep for the company I used to work for name was Guy Fellow... A lady in my apt complex's name is Larry.
    I want a Westerly, not many in the states. I like the idea of being able to "ground it" when the tide goes out. Spent more than one nite on a boat that "misjudged" the tide, I've only done it once, kinda on purpose for a "free" mooring for the nite, lol. Desperation set in, with the sun going down fast, looked kinda silly throwing the anchor out in the mouth of a small river.

    Love the bilge keels on some of the Westerly Centaurs. Who needs to anchor when you can just beach it. I know it's more complicated than that but it beats beaching a fin keel boat.

    Westerley had a series of Cruiser racers in the 70's called the GK (24, 29 and 34). Owners would name them Gate Krasher, Gone Krackers etc. all with a GK theme. My favorite though was "Chesterton".

    Remember I suggested CSY for one of these vlogs, well what about Albin? there are albin Vega's still chugging along, even albin Ballad's moving at a good clip. "Cruising Lealea" and "SailLife" are a couple of examples of channels who have had or still have albins. As for Westy's, family friends had a Westerly Tiger 25 for several years in the early 80's.

      @@LadyKSailing I'm glad it worked . Like I said in comments, I am not a Westerly fan boy . I just hunting a bilge keel it's essential for me . Westerly is the cheapest option . Most Brits start on a Centaur they can be had as low as £1000 £4k is a nice one .
      Prettiest bilge keel is sadler 29 32 34 . Same guy did conteser 32 then started sadler . Direct rip but twin skin unsinkable and available in bilge keel.
      From a what's going to sail best point of view I want a sadler 34.
      From a what's best to live on all year round point of view I want a moody 35.
      From a what's everywhere and cheap point of view I want to many Westerlies to list 🤷

    Hi, We have just bought a W22 as a restoration project in the UK and found your video very informative about The Westerly brand.
    We entered the cockpit for the first time today, and found amongst the debris, an old owners log detailing some of her early history. Her name is “Tarka of Two Rivers” and she was prepared and entered Into the 1964 boat show as the “first display of a Westerly”.
    We are super excited to have bought her, and we are now looking forward to restoring her to as near as original condition as we can.
    Any information that will help us with her restoration would be gratefully received.
