  • Some folks have been asking for a boat tour video of Sea Dream of Clyde, so here it is!
    Sea Dream of Clyde is a 1979 Westerly Discus bridge deck version, which is a 33ft sloop built for the rigors of offshore sailing. Sea Dream of Clyde is reportedly the first Discus ever built, and has a slightly different layout than most others built later on. After starting its life in Glasgow, Scotland, Sea Dream was sailed over to North America, and then bought by the folks we bought it from. The previous owners did a great job of looking after this dependable little ship, and we feel very privileged to be Sea Dream of Clyde's new stewards.

    Your boat reminds me of my 1st one - beautiful mahogany....and she also had an om636...so I know it well. There is a 4x4 place in the UK for parts.

    • @SailingSeaDreamofClyde
      @SailingSeaDreamofClyde  ปีที่แล้ว

      Those OM636 are great! I was sure to find a reliable source for parts before I bought Sea Dream and it's 1979 engine. Westfield 4x4 is great! I once ordered on a Friday morning and the parts were at my house the next Tuesday, all the way from the UK. Manfred is awesome!

    I have a W33 1979 right on the cusp of the W33s becoming a Discus. Got original paperwork that states it’s a Discus and a W33 but our sail number is W33. We have the ketch version with the aft cabin separate so got super huge cockpit lockers. Great boat 😊

      Me too! Although it's a 1980 one. Build A190, I think shortly after they became the center cockpit Discus.

      Thanks for your comment! I love hearing little bits of information from other Discus and W33s like this!

      Cool! Mine is build A168! I'm guessing these numbers represent which one it is, and that that number scheme was applied to both the Discus and W33?

      @@SailingSeaDreamofClyde it's always fun yeah, I've discovered some fun facts that way. I can seriously recommend joining the owner's association groups on Facebook (if you have it), or the association itself (if you haven't already), there's a lot of random facts floating around there :D

    Can you raise the heater instead of cutting the drawer??

    • @SailingSeaDreamofClyde
      @SailingSeaDreamofClyde  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That would have been an option, however, if the heater were higher it would be difficult to get heat down to foot level. With the aft cabin on SDOC, I don't mind not having that bunk as a double. The option to have 6 berths over 7 is lots for this boat.
      Cheers.

      @Sailing Sea Dream of Clyde the company is owned by a man and his wife. Believe he said that if you call him he can build you a setup and then mail it to you and the installation looks pretty simple.

      Owned a Centaur for over twenty years. Looked for a Solway to move up. Couldnt find one in good condition in the western hemisphere. On CSY now. But I miss my Centaur.

    Very well kept westerly . Wonder how exactly they varnished these walls, wish I could do the same for my Conway

      Thanks! I believe previous owner did the vanishing at the same time as he did the headliner in the main cabin. I'm betting it involved a ton of sanding! He did such a great job that I'm sure will be gleaming for many years to come!!

    I'm interested in the keel.
    I want to be able to land rocky beach and go beachcombing. I'm in Prince William Sound. Have you beached your boat?

    • @SailingSeaDreamofClyde
      @SailingSeaDreamofClyde  ปีที่แล้ว

      My Discus is the fin keel version, so easily beaching it would require legs. The bottom of the keel is flat and about a foot wide, so with something to lean on, it would beach ok.
      That said, many Westerly sailboats are bildge keeled and designed to dry out regularly. Are you looking for a Westerly yourself? They're fantastic boats!

    • @alaskawilliam1
      @alaskawilliam1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're coming to Alaska you will see.
      I value beaching and setting up a base camp. I have a Macgreger 26c. It's currently all electric and will not need fuel for the next 15 years.
      As well as harvesting seafood.

    Thanks for the tour, I also have a Discus. The chainlocker I closed off the drain to the bilge, now I have on one side a small hole directly to the outboard with a small RVS cap on it.
    I also have the OM636; very good. Fitted an oilcooler which cools the engineoil with raw seawater to the to the pump and exchanger. Before the engine tended to overheat a little; 90 to 100C. Now it comes rarely above 90C and I have higher oilpressure. I also fitted new glowplugs which are in parallel instead of the old serial ones and fitted a glowrelais so when I am glowing now the current is drawn directly from the battery instead of going through the contactlock. My boat and my work as a lockmaster
    is on polarsteps by Casper de Lange. Good travels I am going to follow you! Regards Casper from the Netherlands.

      Thanks for reaching out Casper, and for the interesting information.
      Interesting to hear about the addition of an oil cooler. If anything, I think my engine has been running a bit cool at around 70 - 75c!
      I'd love to see photos of you anchor locker fix. Are they on your polarstep page? If not, could you message me some on Facebook or Instagram?
