You almost gave me a heart attack with the dark wax on the decoupage paper, but it came out so cute! Scared me too! You did pick the perfect color to paint the frame on that adorable print. Yay you!
I'm glad you liked the way the shelf turned out - I was definitely a little worried there for a second, but I loved the final result. :) And I'm glad you liked the frame, too!! :) Thank you!!
Your projects turned out great! I was amazed at how much better the picture looked just by painting the frame. Just for the record, I LOVE Gypsy Green!
Love your projects. A couple of questions: 1. How do you keep your decoupage paper from wrinkling when you apply it to a piece? 2. What do you use to clean your wax brushes? 3. How do you decide what to price your items for resellling?
I'm glad you liked the projects!! In answer to your questions: 1. For fiber papers I iron them first to make sure they don't have any wrinkles - and honestly they are so thick that wrinkles really aren't an issue while applying them. For regular decoupage paper (like Roycycled), I spritz the paper with water before I apply it, and I make sure to work in sections - laying down and even coat of the patina, applying the paper, smoothing out the paper with my brush as I apply the top coat of patina, and then moving on the the next section . . . if that makes sense. :) 2. I use mineral spirits to clean my wax brushes. I actually store my brushes in about a half inch of mineral spirits. 3. I hate pricing. I use google lens a lot to help, and I research things online to see what similar items sell for. There is no exact science honestly. :)
Sorry, forgot to comment on your picture. I thought it was aged to perfection and absolutely perfect. That was my favorite. Have a great weekend and see you next year.
RE your choice of green paint....is a ....big deal at this point in time.....great choice! Giving a light background to welcome the decoupage paper to hang out with the piece is always the right thing to do
Rachel, I think you do lovely work and you seem to be the kindest, gentlest, sweetest lady. I enjoy watching you very much even if I would sometimes make different choices about making over pieces. Happy subscriber from New Zealand, Francie
Oh I thought the shelves looked good w just the green paint and the white paint! A little distress and you gave that piece a new life! After the decoupage I thought, ok. But the dark wax and it looked old dirty and grungy. At that point you could have left it the original way without cleaning it and it would have looked the same-down someone’s basement for the last 50 years. I loved the crinoline frame though! You have a nice touch…the table was just a miss for me today. ❤
Project #1 went from brown ... to brown. But so much better! Project #2 is my favorite! It would look great in our house. We painted our walls the sort of rusty brown color of the matte and I absolutely love it. (Our last house was very colorful, so this was a big change for us.) Project #3 is my favorite shade of DIY paint.
Just bought the identical shelf two weeks ago at an estate sale it does have an identical top piece that fits in those holes . So glad I came across your video gave me an idea how to do mine .
The shelf turned out beautifully. Updating an antique really brings it around to a very special piece. Glad you decided to paint before papering, gives it a very crisp look. Also, I use big nail file to trim off the excess edges.
Rachel, oh my gosh the little candle holder turned out really nice. My heart about stopped when the picture just about fell out of your hands, good catch gal!! You must have gotten a standing ovation from your faithful viewers on that catch. I know I was clapping for your snag. The major leagues need to sign you up for catches like that. LOL The cabinet turned out outstanding. When you put the dark wax on the paper and stood back, I was stunned (probably like you were) and thought you were going to have to sand off the paper and start again. Nice come back on that, it turned out just beautifully, Another standing ovation was heard around the states as people viewed that. hehe Don't know if leaving the wood tone behind the paper would have given you the same effect or not, as I haven't ever worked with the heavier paper. Just seems like it would have been too dark. See, you found the correct path by a happy accident. Hope you and your husband have a wonderful New Years! See you on Tue my friend.
I tell you - I have always been pretty proud of my reflexes, and they definitely saved me in that instant!! :) My heart definitely skipped a beat (or two), though!! And I was SO nervous about using the dark wax over the paper - I have done it with the Roycycled papers, but hers aren't as fibrous as these - and yeah, for a second I thought for sure I had ruined it! haha - thank goodness for the magic of clear wax!!! I am so pleased with the result, though. For me it was the perfect solution for toning down the too bright white that it was before. And I love the mix of the colors in the paper - it's so happy! :) Anyway, thanks for your thoughtful comment as always, and I hope you have a wonderful New Year!! :)
Great projects there! Green of almost all kinds are my favorite! The little shelf is so neat! If you painted the bottom of the shelves. It could even be hung above something small.
Thanks so much! 😊 And I left the bottom of the shelves the wood because I enjoy the contrast, but I suppose someone could paint them if they wanted! :)
The last time I painted a mat, it bowed from the moisture..... since then I only buy pictures that have mats that are a color that I feel I can work with. :)
It's me again, I love your projects and what you do to them... I loved the corner cab and the candle holder! Wish I lived closer. I just ordered me some BigTop !
I loved the process you showed of working through your vision for the piece, and then adjusting for what the paint and wax actually looked like. Thank you so much for sharing.
I really liked the shelf before you put the paper on. The contrast between the dark wood and the green was beautiful. But maybe there was a reason that was not possible.love your videos!
I do think that green is wonderful with dark brown. :) I'm sorry if you didn't like the paper!! I'm glad you enjoy my videos, though! Thank you so much for being here!! :)
Well if there is one thing I have learned, it's that not everyone will like everything I do. Fortunately I like it. :) Thanks for watching. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you too.🎉 you ask for comments and if we like or not ~ so l believed you really were interested and do sincerely hope that is the case - or is there a note of defensivenes I detect?
And I want you to know that I do appreciate you taking the time to comment - even if what you had to say isn't exactly what I wanted to hear. So thank you. :)
I'm glad you liked the video. :) And it is so very hard to keep track of what sells and when sometimes - especially since I have the shop and two booth spaces, lol.
Just found your channel. This was so fun to watch. Just subscribed! I had seen a technique recently where the excess decoupage paper is burned off with a march instead of sanding. Have you ever tried that? I’m wondering if that would have worked for the green shelf?
Well, welcome! Thanks for subscribing!! :) And yes, I have used the burning technique . . . I actually did it for a video a while back for fall. :) I don't know if it something I would want to try on furniture but it worked wonderfully on my small projects!
Lol . . . . I thought the paper looked way too bright before and I really loved the way the dark wax helped tone it down - but I guess everyone is different! :)
The shelves are really special! The paper is great! However, I would prefer the underside of the shelves be painted too.
I'm glad you liked it! Thank you!
I liked them all. I was hoping you would rub a bit of gold on the metal portion of the candle holder to accent the design.
I was really trying to keep the feel of it the same so that it matched with the vintage glass shade. :) Maybe next time! :)
Yes, always paint the underside! I always paint bottoms of trays and tables also.
I agree, the bottom of the shelf should have been painted. Otherwise, it was beautiful.
Love everything as usual but the shelf is my fave!
Glad you liked it!! Thank you!!
I actually liked the piece better before the dark wax.
It is amazing how the paint on the frame immediately updated the look!
Isn't it though? It was just so blah before, but I think it really shines now! :) Thank you!!
I loved the shelf most. It is very pretty❤
I'm so glad you liked it! Thank you!!
You almost gave me a heart attack with the dark wax on the decoupage paper, but it came out so cute! Scared me too! You did pick the perfect color to paint the frame on that adorable print. Yay you!

The shelf is very pretty, but I really liked it with the dark wood.
Well I'm glad you thought it was pretty! Thank you!

That is so very sweet of you to say - I appreciate it!! Thank you. 😊
So funny. When I think you should go green, you go crimalin and vice aversive. But I love how the cabinet turned out!❤
Lol - Thank you! :)
Loved the shelves so much! My wheels are turning. Thank you for the inspiration.
You are so welcome! I'm glad you liked them!! Thank you!

The cabinet turned out great. My heart sank right along with yours but it turned out great. God bless

Like everything but the cabinet just because I am not a fan of anything green. For the right person they will love it. Love your channel. 🌴
Thanks so much!! And green is definitely not a color for everyone, lol!! :)

Love the little shelf, I think it turned out lovely.

FYI, you could paint the mat in project number 2. Perhaps in spring green.
The last time I painted a mat, it bowed from the moisture..... since then I only buy pictures that have mats that are a color that I feel I can work with. :)

IMO the flower pictured needed a color to the frame, but to each their own.
I love that different people like different things! :)
Hi Rachel, yes, that dark wax on the bright decoupage paper was a good decision - love that corner cabinet.
Thank you so much! 😊
Maybe paint the underside of the shelves. Good job.
Thank you!
The pictures frame what a little paint can do.
I know - such a huge difference! Glad you liked it! Thank you!
Happy New Year Rachael. 🎉🎉🎉
Great save on the table. Now we all leaned something. You always have great products.
Thank you - that's so nice of you to say! :) Happy New Year to you, too!!
Wow the dark messed it up
Lol . . . . I thought the paper looked way too bright before and I really loved the way the dark wax helped tone it down - but I guess everyone is different! :)
That brown wax can really mess up a piece. Sorry not digging how it turned out. Good luck with that.
Thank you!
🤍Really enjoyed THIS episode w all the cabinet mishaps, bc that's the way it sometimes really goes✅✅✅Turned out GREAT🤍
Thank you so much!! :)
