That long pause after the IED...man....i know you hit some shit. Thank you for your service sir. Gone but NEVER forgotten.
The only ones who wish for peace are the soldiers of war.

Two things to notice. First, the main character was the one that talked the other three into signing up in the first place. Mind you, not saying they are responsible for signing up, but it make the point... he's not just dealing with survivor's guilt, he likely feels directly responsible for their deaths.
Second. They all seem to have wives/girlfriends during that "One Year Ago" part, from the looks of it. Main character in the present looking awfully alone, though. Yet another thing that veterans go through that isn't often talked about.

I'm a Desert Storm Navy Corpsman & although never wounded in battle still suffer this day over waiting to feel a bullet rip through me while treating a wounded brother. Nothing makes all ethnicities realize we are on race, one brotherhood more than knowing we are all their together, live or die & that we would gladly give our lives for each other.

I’m familiar with the song but I’m seeing the video for the first time. It’s much more impactful when you’re watching the images on the screen. War is so brutal and tragic. My father was in the Army and served in combat three times. He survived but because he was in Vietnam and had heavy metal poisoning in his body he passed away much earlier than he should have. I was an only child most likely because he had become sterile.

A subtle but poignant point of the video is that at 11:10 and beyond, his wife isn't seen anymore. To me this implies his guilt drove them apart and destroyed their marriage, something which happens far too often to veterans...
Also note how cold his eyes have become at 15:59 - part of him has died, the rest is just waiting to catch up.

Four men have "gone away" not only three.
