I really hope this 4-piece stuck together. There is an undeniable chemistry and unspoken language between all of the bandmates, no spoken words just looks and nods and they all stuck together. Moreover, all of them have inherent stage charisma and confidence which is not easy to find or learn. Plus, that kid singing has some real chops, his voice is powerful as heck.
Hard not to rush this song when you’re on stage and hyped up for a crowd. Nicely done staying mostly on tempo and you killed the vocals. Sounding good!
Watching this band of high schoolers playing Smells Like Teen Spirit really brings a tear to my eye. Grunge Rock may not be as vital as it was 30 years ago, but thanks to talented musicians like them, it will live on forever.
Everyone in here commenting how they weren't 100% true to the studio recording as if Kurt wouldn't intentionally change random things in the sound to make it feel slightly "off" when playing live (and that's on the moderate end) and that that isn't a massive part of the entire grunge genre, great cover
during prom a kid played single handedly kickstart my heart with vocals, and nailed every single bit. Everybody loved it, even the non rock fans. True talent
Nah. He makes a good impression in terms of tone and aggression and he sings it coorectly. But let’s not sit here and pretend like Smells like teen spirit has any ”hard to hit notes” or that the melody is challenging at any part.
One of my favorite memories EVER is performing with my friend in my high school talent show. I played guitar, she sang. She was a very, very timid person and never spoke much. But when she sang… the audience was floored. It felt like a “Susan Boyle” moment. People’s jaws dropped in awe, they were CRYING, standing ovation, all that. It was really magical. And we got 2nd place against a band like this one. One of my proudest moments.
That was awesome! The kid with the long hair went full Nirvana, really got into it! You can tell they've been practicing this for a long time, great job!

This gives me chills, I like to imagine this is the same energy Kurt and co channeled into that music video. That high schoolers channel this internal rage into this fantastic song. I hope the audience this would be to witness at that point in their life. Love seeing good covers of Nirvana. The kids jumping on stage resembled a lot like Nirvana's live performances.
Man this is what I thought it would be like to play guitar in high school. Most people were annoyed that I had my guitar with me, my Jazz teacher made me turn it down to hear the piano better, and after school performances only the singer ever got acknowledgement. Good for them though
I thought being a jazz drummer would be all fun and I’d be able to play to my fullest extent. I came up with a 2 bar triplet drum fill and my director told me to dial it down and play in 8ths because it “confused the rest of the band.” When I knew it only confused him. It kept me down for so long until a judge told me to stop listening to my director because he could tell I was bored while playing, holding back, and was strictly following the charts. The look on my directors face was priceless.
I can't stand when a guitarist is playing clean guitar in a band, and I can pick out every instrument except the guitar. Why are they even there? I'm talking about bands on talk shows, for instance.
This was the first high school band I’ve seen on TH-cam that isn’t pure cringe. Nirvana covers are always a bit cringe but if you’re gunna cover them then a high school show is the ideal place to do it 😂
I hope Kurt is somewhere where he can see that he's become so iconic and beloved that people are still playing, enjoying and straight up blasting the bands music over 3 decades later...all of these kids are a beast, hell of a job
ive watched high schoolers play this song many many many times over the years since i started playing guitar in 8th grade. This one is the best one ive seen.
That’s gonna be a memory that’ll stick with you for the rest of your life. It’s times like these that make life so precious. I remember my last high school prom where I was invited to sing in front of the entire dance, and through the entire song everyone supported me. I’m glad to see so many other people experience this. I hope everyone reading this has an awesome day, take care.
Glad to see the younger generations loving this band and song as I did at their age. This song literally altered my life and changed me as a person. As stupid as that sounds but its true. I used to be into rap. Too Short, NWA, DJ Quick and then I heard this song played and was like.....whoa. From there I grew my hair long, colored it pink and started playing guitar and never looked back. This song still gives me chills in the right circumstance and reminds me of a lot of awesome youthful memories. Keep on waking up and rocking out after breakfast man.
As someone who can vividly remember the first time I heard this song in 1991, I think that high school kids are still playing and appreciating it today is pretty awesome.

he sped up the tempo pretty quick. as a drummer you have ONE job. and thats to keep time
I'm guessing you're a highschooler also...no offense to the kid, but this shit sucked
@@3SevenStangVids true, but let's give the KID a break. he's a kid, afterall. he will learn from experiences like this :)
Vocals are superb. Maybe the best sung cover of this song I’ve ever heard. Please keep singing and being a front man front man. You are wildly talented.
It's ok. Can barely hear him because the mix is too low
Ummm No lol. But they were cute and played guitar well.
@@moabman6803 prob sounded better live, phone microphones get blown out easily
Seether and also Post Malone blow this out of the out of the fucking water, but this is good for a bunch of high schoolers.
@@danielleminerva4525 alright Danielle 💀
As a nirvana fan they absolutely nailed that, and the singer sounds quite like Kurt, so incredible and they are young and very talented!
Imagine the drummer excited to see himself in this 😂 poor guy
my man on the bass was feeling the teen spirit
Nobodys talking about the bassist!!!! so fricking cool with the hair!!!! hope they still do stuff together
1000th like lol feels so powerful. Anyways i really hope they did!! Thats something you can tell they work very well together fs
I legit had no idea my comment was as appreciated as it was. Thank you! My sentiment still stands, I hope these kids become stars. @@prestonpowers10
At 48 years old, I've gone full circle. From seeing them in concert, to now, when the new kids like/cover them again.
Must have been awesome to listen to Nirvana live
@@cooljon4240 an experience we sadly can’t recreate
The dream and joy of playing a bad ass rock song at prom with your band is one of the few things kids today haven’t lost.
It makes me feel good
Hard not to rush this song when you’re on stage and hyped up for a crowd. Nicely done staying mostly on tempo and you killed the vocals. Sounding good!
Agreed!! I’m in chorus and when we’re singing a positive song we tend to speed up! These guys were very impressive
"Im so excited! Thats my phucking boyfriend!" Cutest thing ever!
this dude NAILED the vocals. absolutely insane!
Watching this band of high schoolers playing Smells Like Teen Spirit really brings a tear to my eye. Grunge Rock may not be as vital as it was 30 years ago, but thanks to talented musicians like them, it will live on forever.
I was 19 when this song came out. It was a big part of my life in 1991, and still is. These guys KILLED it!
RESPECT!!!
I was 21, and it was earth-shattering at the time.
Same, and loving the mosh pit
I'm glad to hear high schoolers today know this music. Its 30 years old.
Everyone in here commenting how they weren't 100% true to the studio recording as if Kurt wouldn't intentionally change random things in the sound to make it feel slightly "off" when playing live (and that's on the moderate end) and that that isn't a massive part of the entire grunge genre, great cover
Exactly, grunge is meant to be played raw and not to perfection. You just do what you feel like playing
LOL they should go back and listen to Kurt play it on Top of the Pops - see how true to the studio recording that was
rlly?! when i was watching i couldn’t stop thinking about how eerily similar they sound to nirvana lol. silly thing to nitpick for multiple reasons
Can you imagine the smile it would have brought him to know 32 years down the road it's still being cheered every time it starts though.
@@Aaronn-je8cx So were the guitars so clean then?
during prom a kid played single handedly kickstart my heart with vocals, and nailed every single bit. Everybody loved it, even the non rock fans. True talent
the kid singing has an awesome voice for this song!
You never die if you leave behind a legacy like this. I grew up in the 90’s listening to grunge. Thanks Kurt
2:49 the Pringles on stage hit hard
This kid can make a damn good impression of Cobain! Those notes aren’t easy to hit. Props to you dude.
Nah. He makes a good impression in terms of tone and aggression and he sings it coorectly. But let’s not sit here and pretend like Smells like teen spirit has any ”hard to hit notes” or that the melody is challenging at any part.
@@HoseTheBeast that... and to be fair... it was played pretty damm sloppy :P
@@woodiewoodmen2306 yes. Yes it was. But they are kids, gotta cut them some slack and give respect anyway.
@@HoseTheBeast Of course, but let's not overexaggerate on the performance 😛
@@woodiewoodmen2306calm down bro, they did a phenomenal job, especially at their age. The last comment was completely unnecessary
That was amazing! To go from Sleepwalk to Smells Like Teen Spirit? These lads were incredibly brave. Well done lads!
Props to the bassist. From bassist to bassist, awesome work, dude!
Everybody did an awesome job, but the vocalist and lead guitarist doesn't seem to be getting enough love, the dude just KILLED it!!
Their youthful, nervous energy is wholesome to see from the eyes of an adult.
4:32 "i love your brother" 🤣
One of my favorite memories EVER is performing with my friend in my high school talent show. I played guitar, she sang. She was a very, very timid person and never spoke much. But when she sang… the audience was floored. It felt like a “Susan Boyle” moment. People’s jaws dropped in awe, they were CRYING, standing ovation, all that. It was really magical. And we got 2nd place against a band like this one. One of my proudest moments.

How nirvana songs should make people feel
That was awesome! The kid with the long hair went full Nirvana, really got into it! You can tell they've been practicing this for a long time, great job!
Love to see the younger generations appreciate the old school.
Growing up in the 90s, we would never think about playing 30 year old music
I wouldn’t say that. People covered classic rock a lot back then.
@@tomaskuehn1142seems like we were happy with 60s stuff, but the 70s and 80s had such a style it was hard to cover without just sounding dated

I just gotta say--- that bassist has the most luxurious hair
That bassist is my spirit animal (pun intended)
But my dude killed it covering Kurts vocals, and ripping lead guitar...... at 17 or 18 yrs old?!?! Awesome
As someone who grew up with and loves his alternative rock, you guys did a great job. Fantastic work
The vocals are really underrated, It is really impressive to sing like that. AMAZING
i hate learning musical instruments but the yearning to play guitar and sing is so strong right now
Respect! They even got the dancing guys on stage like Nirvana concerts!
YOU GUYS NAILED IT! Well done!
love that girl saying “That’s my boyfriend!” awesome hearing the support
FINALLY SOMEONE THAT ACTUALLY SOUND GOOD PLAYING SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT RIGHT!!!!!! AND HE SOUNDS AMAZING!!!!!
this is the best HS talent cover ive ever seen so far
This was the first high school band I’ve seen on TH-cam that isn’t pure cringe. Nirvana covers are always a bit cringe but if you’re gunna cover them then a high school show is the ideal place to do it 😂

The crowd was so awesome and supportive- the singer totally got into his best flow as soon as they started singing along with him. Great great band.
THESE GUYS WILL NEVER FORGET THIS. YOU LIVED MY HIGHSCHOOL DREAM.
To see kids still rocking out to Nirvana after all these years is just incredible! ❤
As a teacher myself, I can say with 100% certainty that I would have been up there on the stage with those students. 🤘🤘
As someone who can vividly remember the first time I heard this song in 1991, I think that high school kids are still playing and appreciating it today is pretty awesome.
15 right now and I grew up with nirvana playing cuz of my dad and mom, definitely nice to see other people also perform this!! especially at a prom, its usually slow music and whatnot lol but yeah, its really nice to see!! my mom always says she wanted to go to one of his concerts or see Freddy Mercury
