He's already admitted and accepted having a bit of narcissism (don't we all?). I don't think it offends his sensibilities. He's been becoming more and more honest since this style change and letting go of his former style/persona/facade?/defenses? and that takes an incredible amount of courage and humility. Some of the rest of your guys's exchange was a little over my head but that's just my 2 cents worth. I love this guy.
Just watched Father John Misty on SNL and have been watching and listening to as much as I can in one night and I am in love. Oh my god he is drop dead Gorgeous here. I know he probably cares nothing about that but I can listen to him talk for days, sing forever.
I really do enjoy the way he expresses himself. I find myself chuckling and thoroughly entertained by his charm. Great responses to the You Tube comments and critiques. ❤️
Brilliant, really. The sardonic, dead-pan delivery just makes J Tillman all the more thrilling, in my book. You gotta love a guy who is so brilliant, yet seems utterly bored with himself and everything around him. Miss him in FFs, but I'm so glad he's taking chances and still making great music.
I've been listening to this album almost exclusively for the past week and it really is completely amazing! Looking forward to seeing what you do next!
Like Josh's music and also enjoy the interviews I have watched. They stimulate thought. Unfortunately I am posting this on TH-cam and already wonder why I need to say it...
@awwitshorace, You know what's a more pretentious word than critique? You guessed it, pretentious. You're correct in pointing out that most youtube comments don't really resemble a "critique" in the traditional sense of the word. However, seeing as how this little segment could only be seen as "humor" then I believe his use of the word critique is in this case isn't meant to be taken seriously. I mean, he's sitting here reading youtube comments about himself and responding, and you comment on him using the word "critique". Take a moment to analyze how ridiculous that is. Then think about said comment utilizing the word pretentious to describe the word critique. I want you to think about that.
Steve Jobless haha I love this. Some of the comments here are hilarious, since we're now commenting on a comment of a comment in some sort of infinite comment continuum. Like this "He must think hes famous or something..I didnt kno there was a solo act that followed Fleet Foxes..hell I didnt kno FF had an "act" after Winter Hymnal Blues..tbis guy needs a steroid shot" Now I want to hear the comment on that comment. And then comment on it.
I was lucky to meet Josh at the DC's Black Cat performance this past year and I love FEAR FUN so much AND the whole live band performance, that I will be at ALL of your DC area shows in 2013 wearing my heart-shaped sunglasses...and bringing friends.
I loved listening to this. The fact people hide behind keyboards and screens writing mindless poetic dribble in response to videos is ironic to me. However to watch Father John Misty have his say and voice his opinion, priceless! Thanks for the morning grin!
i think that your album is the best album off the year, your music help me in my hard times, your music have a spirit like nick drake,t. w. zandt, david crosby, neil young, go on go on you will change the music history, trust mee, you have that in you, hope you will come to croatia
Wow. Even his comments on the comments (which are mostly NOT even criticism, if you notice?) are pretentious, and overly self-aware - which is his whole style.
I like his music, but i feel that having a conversation with him would be like watching a man admiring himself in the mirror while talking. Doesn't present too much interest to me.
Pamela B Come on...you look stupid doing this. You haven't even met the guy. Yeah, you like him. Good for you. Could've said that without attacking me. Anyway. It's been a long time. I like him now. Not in this particular video, but the way he evolved. His recent self.
Abraham I guess you misunderstood and totally missed the point of my reply to yours. That was no attack on you. Let me explain, it was specifically my agreement with your comment about him looking in the mirror while you'd be trying to have a conversation with him. My response to your message was a line from a song by Carly Simon called You're So Vain. Maybe you've never heard the song before or didn't recognize it but it's one of the first lines in the song and when I read your message, that's the first thought that came to my mind. I was trying to say to you that I get what you mean and that I agree with you base in this particular video of Josh. No, I have never met him and have no plans or desire to. I like a few of his songs but not all of them. I'm sure he's evolved like most artist do but I really don't follow his music that much. I knew of him from Fleet Foxes and like what they've done so I check out his stuff now and then. I don't understand why you had to go on the defense, I meant no harm, I was actually agreeing with you. I know sometime it's hard to convey what people really mean through text and messaging, but please don't be so quick to jump to conclusions. Maybe ask about the meaning of a message before you just assume next time.
Pamela B Oh, ok. Well, it makes sense. He did say in a KEXP interview that he used to be pretty vain. That doesn't just go away the moment you change your name. Can you blame me? No quotation marks, i didn't know the line, and in most cases people jump on you when you attack their celebrity crush.
He must think hes famous or something..I didnt kno there was a solo act that followed Fleet Foxes..hell I didnt kno FF had an "act" after Winter Hymnal Blues..tbis guy needs a steroid shot
I've never heard this guys music before, this just came up on a playlist. I really don't like this guy. He is trying way too hard. I have no problems with someone being verbose but this dude needs to put down the thesaurus. Not everything needs to be a metaphor. If I ever hear his music I hope it sucks and validates my hatred of him.
That first quote is legendary
Faceshit was the first draft name for Facebook.
he makes a PERFECT lighter sound at 1:46
LMFAOOOOOO

I need a dictionary.
use one. it's a big language
Just watched Father John Misty on SNL and have been watching and listening to as much as I can in one night and I am in love. Oh my god he is drop dead Gorgeous here. I know he probably cares nothing about that but I can listen to him talk for days, sing forever.
Now I love him as I love Thom Yorke.
***** but he is ugly
***** i mean its too good to be true
I really do enjoy the way he expresses himself. I find myself chuckling and thoroughly entertained by his charm. Great responses to the You Tube comments and critiques. ❤️
This is the weirdest Father John Misty video on the Interwebs - haha. He's like Josh Tillman's alien cousin without the beard.
I was thinking along the lines of "Villain" Father John Misty or Father John Misty's Seductive but Evil Clone
Obviously you've never seen Whisky Time with Josh Tillman
Brilliant, really. The sardonic, dead-pan delivery just makes J Tillman all the more thrilling, in my book. You gotta love a guy who is so brilliant, yet seems utterly bored with himself and everything around him. Miss him in FFs, but I'm so glad he's taking chances and still making great music.
J Tillman critiques his critics, nice
Love him or hate him, he do be spittin facts doe 😳
I've been listening to this album almost exclusively for the past week and it really is completely amazing! Looking forward to seeing what you do next!
Just shitting on my own face here, but I really appreciate that Josh uses the phrase "cheese-dick", as I do
Like Josh's music and also enjoy the interviews I have watched. They stimulate thought. Unfortunately I am posting this on TH-cam and already wonder why I need to say it...
This videos is a decade ahead of its time..
had a childhood friend that my dad nicknamed, Chaaaaaarlie Cheesedick... I too appreciate this!
poor guy has the sniffles :/
Father John Misty for Vice President 2020!

"yeah i guess i do have a bit of sugar in my tank" haha
I loved listening to this. The fact people hide behind keyboards and screens writing mindless poetic dribble in response to videos is ironic to me. However to watch Father John Misty have his say and voice his opinion, priceless! Thanks for the morning grin!
Song "Holywood cementry sing" is a legend
where his eyebrows tho
Fr. John - you can put your sugar in my tank anywhere, any time. You want to bring Jeff along, I'm good with that.
if it's on youtube it's got to be true
Haha I was kinda just trolling but I did ck out some of his songs..soon as I heard Nancy I was hooked..I listened to Fun Fear non stop yesterday :)
I had to stop and think about this... You are very right.
i think that your album is the best album off the year, your music help me in my hard times, your music have a spirit like nick drake,t. w. zandt, david crosby, neil young, go on go on you will change the music history, trust mee, you have that in you, hope you will come to croatia
Oh my Lord, you haven't changed one bit. I feel like I'm back in 1997. ☺️
listening to him talk i'm just waiting for those absurd analogies
I love this series
I thought this was only for rappers, but FJM is cool too.
OMG he looks gorgeous. Love the bare face.
You know a thesaurus contains synonyms, not metaphors, right?
Good guy
J was making music long before Fleet Foxes
Well ya... that's true. But, everyone in Fleet Foxes were making music before becoming Fox.
love will prevail
Looks better without the beard.
S A C R I L E G E
mission accomplished
Wish i'd said that!
I'm gonna comment extra hard on this video, then. Uh...uh...FJM is a doodie head.
what a boss
Do we know what video he was referring to?
I save all my stuffs for my FB. TH-cam weirds me out haha
"probably more akin to" (he kind of slurs them together)
I chanced a foolish grin and dribbled on my chin.
He's a handsome boy.
Wow. Even his comments on the comments (which are mostly NOT even criticism, if you notice?) are pretentious, and overly self-aware - which is his whole style.
wait i thought he was just saying that yt comments are a good thing??
@ornithology101 I love you.
Yeah, you would be josh Tillman, wouldn’t ya.
telling a musician to get clean
why do you hate music?
Father john misty is awsome
I like his music, but i feel that having a conversation with him would be like watching a man admiring himself in the mirror while talking. Doesn't present too much interest to me.

Love his music don't so much care for him though. He comes across as arrogant and way over sexual.
I love the guy's music but you can't deny he comes off as super pretentious and cocky at times
sickening drivel and pretense
