The whole song is amazing, but Ziegler’s solo at the the end may be some of the best singing I’ve ever heard. They say sing like you’re talking and it almost sounds like spoken word in perfect harmony. Well done! Amazing talent!

I worked with him at a quartet event and the guy really has one of the best voices I've ever heard even when not sung with by the other guys
This internationals was the very first barbershop competition I attended, and I remember that going in, one of the senior guys in my chorus informed me this was “Signature’s year to win it.”
But then, I heard this performance live, and even though I didn’t even know who After Hours were I was convinced they would win the entire thing.
I really like the word play at the end.
“I will never be completely until... I do.” As in I won’t be complete until we say I do. Absolute beauty.
Unrelated, but I really like their pocket square/bow tie combo.

Absolutely beautiful. I’ve been listening to this performance for about 2 and a half years and it really was what showed me the beauty that this type of music could have. This performance and arrangement is simply exceptional. A very deserving first place finish from after Hours.
No live performance is ever well-represented by these videos, but they get the job done.

It's been a day since this was uploaded and I've already watched it like 10 times.

How do they stay so in tune during their "doo"s with the tenor having a completely different vowel shape??? Blows my mind. Fantastic quartet, can't wait to see what opportunities this accomplishment opens up for them!
Sean Lubbers fun fact i learned from some excellent coaching over the last couple of years, vowel shape and mouth shape are very different phenomena! tuning and vowel matching are determined much more by sound placement choices in the soft palate, back of the mouth, tongue, & throat than the lips/mouth. the mouth is basically the last component in the “equation.” this is why people with drastically different head/mouth/sinus shapes & sizes can have great voice blend and vowel matching in barbershop! it’s all in the technique, which makes AH all the more impressive!

Championship caliber cleanliness & engagement. Saw Bryan fill in as bass with VS on a show (2-3?) years ago and was floored. These guys are as good as it gets. Kudos to all others too as it keeps getting better.
Well as sad (and surprised) as I was to see Signature place second again, I’m very happy that After Hours won. Congrats to these guys and thanks for an AWESOME first international. :) Please upload NF4 vids!!! “Gaston” and “All Star” were especially spectacular. 😂

Signature would have to place 2nd again next year for that to work, they took 4th in 2016. That would be amazing, though!

These first few bars made me nervous (the "dodoo-dodoo-dodoo-dodoo" part)... Because I play violin in an orchestra, and those high but quiet notes are so nerve-racking.

They are the current highest scoring quartet champions. However, Spiderfarm (Midtown) is the current highest scoring song of all time (in the new system).

The stereo audio is reversed left-to-right. Tenor is heard on the right side and bari on the left. Please please fix this. It would be a shame to have the official recording of this performance permanently messed up. I don't know if it's a youtube problem or a video editing problem but it needs to be corrected.

We thought it was that way live too... Seemed like they noticed the problem halfway through the semis and fixed it. Or we're all having crazy overtone hallucinations. You never know :D
idk about the semis but I definitely remember it being messed up for the finals on the webcast. The audio from the center mics was backwards. (but the audio from the side mics was correct, so you couldn't even fix it by flipping your headphones!)
I have no problems on my end. Using headphones in the correct ears.
Bradley Babiack try flipping your headphones. Your eyes can trick your ears when they don't agree but once it's correct it is more obvious that it's correct, if that makes sense

Wait, what? This didn't make it through?
I feel like the bass is pressing most of his lower register. Signature has a more resonant sound I think, but After Hours won because they were better in sync and more musical and Drew Ochoa is one of the greatest ever. However I think I could listen to Signature for a longer period of time than After Hours just because of how bright and thin After Hours sounds to me.
I could listen to After Hours for longer because they don't just sing the same type of song on a loop for virtually every contest

Signature didn't ring as much and wasn't as clean. They were still clean, but After Hours was cleaner. Talk to a judge who was sitting in the pit, instead of judging from section 304

Just for the record, I'm not disagreeing with After Hours winning, they deserved to win and they'll be awesome champs. "Thin" probably isn't the right word, I just feel like theres too much edge for me compared to other recent winners who seem to have warmer resonance. Again, no doubt that he's a pro, just not my cup of tea.

Oh, dear. Hmmm... I wonder if I would be as eager to join the society today as I was 38 years ago.
What a strange question to ask. Quartets today, especially those that medal, encourage a way stronger, healthier, and vibrant vocal quality than any quartet except maybe the Boston Common exhibited in the 70s through 90s.
It's precisely these breakthroughs that are making the style way more appealing to the youth AND to music educators today.
