What I heard from a coffee manufacturer, those 3 in 1 coffee is using a rejected coffee beans from the coffee plantation. The manufacturer use certain additives to make the taste consistent, so any good or bad coffee beans has no issue for them. I’ve stop drinking 3 in 1 for years and making my own coffee using French press, personal espresso pump, or just a simple v drip. Always drink black coffee, no sugar, no creamer or milk.

I was addicted to this coffee, drinking 6 to 8 cups per day. One morning, I got up and threw my supply of coffee in the trash. That was three years ago. I went through withdrawals for a week. My mood was not good and I refused to be around other people because I was so angry. I haven't touched coffee or tea in three years, and coke or other sodas in eight years.

11:00 stay away from the low sugar stuff. They replace sugar with artificial sweetener, or HFCS which is much sweeter than regular sugar so they can maintain the taste while using less. HFCS cause metabolic syndrome. It is one of the main reasons Americans are so fat. Massive US gov subsidy leads to an overproduction of corn, so they searched for how to use it, and that's how we get HFCS that is so cheap.

3-in-1 coffees are terrible. Doesn't take a genius/scientist to figure that out. Filled with chemicals, high in sugar and the amount of packaging is terrible.
It's not hard to just have a jar of good freeze dried instant coffee, quality sugar and milk (if you really need it) in your kitchen. Literally takes 2mins to put it all together in the morning or whenever you need a coffee fix.
Or even better, get coffee beans, get it ground up and buy a French press. It's the less extreme version of what the barista was presenting because who has the time for that!!!

Any product that has "hydrogenated" anything on the ingredients list, we place back on the store shelf. Powdered coffee creamer is on our DNP (Do Not Purchase ) list. A little sugar may not destroy you but I also avoid that. To keep it simple, I support local coffee farmers where I have gone into semi-retirement in the Philippines. A bag of roasted beans, a means to grind the beans, and good water are all you really must have. Filtering is nice but optional. A few years ago, I could purchase coffee beans and roast them to my personal preference. Might do that again soon?

I'm very enthusiastic about coffee, and have always regarded instant coffee as filthy poison. Some of the products we see here (locally the Vietnamese ones were the first, now I can buy a wide variety of 3-in-1 types from many countries) are drinkable, but I still regard them as "emergency coffee"! It's a big step up, and that emergency DOES occur! For me this might be if I have an intense busy job, or am taking a long road-trip in bad weather. There have been times when I was tired and cold, out in the country somewhere... and a little portable stove and a pack of instant coffee seemed like a real treat!

I was used to consuming 3n1 coffee until 4th quarter of last year. I felt bloated and lost the appetite to eat proper meal. I was sure it was the 3n1 because I only get bloated the next day when I tried skipping coffee for a day or 2.. I used to drink 3-5 cups a day. Around October last year, I switched back to black coffee, drank about 2-3 cups a day, and I was happy. No more bloating and I even slept better. But then I started craving for 3n1 again. What I did was I mixed an instant black coffee, muscovado sugar, and a bit of instant creamer and put it in a jar. I get a consistent taste the way I want because I measure how much of each content I add. I still get added fats because of the creamer but not as much as the 3n1 that I can't control. I only consume 3n1 during travels if I have no access to brewed coffee.. Coffee is LIFE for someone like me.

My favourite 3 in1 is Indocafe. It doesn't actually taste like quality' coffee. In fact it doesn't actually taste much like coffee at all, as don't any of the instant coffees I've tried so far but, and this is the draw, Indocafe especially has a appealing comfort factor in the testure, consistency and flavour. I'm fully aware that it has additives to make it that desirable.
At home I make my own coffee, using ground coffee beans, which smell and taste divine but, when I'm away from home,
3 in 1 coffee is a treat not to be missed.

Robusta beans which is cheaper and have higher caffeine and often use in 3 in 1. Black instant coffee often market to use 100% arabica which lower caffeine. Also the gram of coffee use per g. Therefore not all instant or 3in1 caffeine level is the same. For best coffee, it is still a freshly grind and brew coffee. Be it espresso, mokapot, aeropress, french press or drip still way better than 3 in 1.

I use coffee maker with coarse type of coffee that needs to be filtered, and I also use stevia as sweetener. I don't use creamer anymore. If I want some creamer, I use milk instead. For me it is more satisfying than 3 in 1. Most 3 in 1 is more of sugary/creamery taste which I no longer enjoy.

Do the environment a favor and reduce your single use plastic waste by blending your own 3 in 1 powder mixture and store in a jar. It's very simple and you get to control the strength, flavor, sweetness, etc.

It seems that you dont understand the point of instant coffee lol. It's all about "convenience". You dont need to buy 3 ingredients, you dont need to measure each of ingredient, all you need is a cup and hot water.

Thats why it's called instant coffe lmao, you just need a hot water and a cup.

I used to LOVE those; however, I began to realize they were spiking my blood sugar. Well, they taste good; but I decided to stop being lazy, and make my own, so I can adjust and reduce the sugar/cream intake. It's an insulin thing now, so I have to pay attention. Made me regret all the packets of hot chocolate mix I consumed as kid.

Thanks Rai. But I think the measuring of caffeine in the lab is not worth the effort because you do no know the initial caffeine levels of each instant coffee. Less sugar is not necessarily a healthier option in an instant coffee and brew coffee is definitely healthier in many ways due to its need to undergo so many chemical processes and adding of emulsifiers and stabilisers. It’s spelt out pretty clearly that all these additives are not good for the body in the long run despite in small quantity. So enjoy a brew cup of coffee, prefer the shorter shelf life if it means it’s a cup of coffee with less additives.

I wanted to see more insights from CNA Insider at each step of the coffee sachet process as to whether or not that method is the best. For example, it was said the most important step is obtaining the dried coffee powder. The sachets use hot-air spray-dried processing, but how does that compare to the freeze-dried processing method?

Did you know instant coffee has the highest amount of acrylamide among different types of coffee? Acrylamide is a neurotoxin. This was known for quite sometime and recently revealed again by HK researchers. Brewed coffee has a lower amount of acrylamide, but this also depends on the beans variety and brewer that you use

    • @sarahyip2825
      @sarahyip2825 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Exactly my thought! Go for home brew. Acrylamide is in both instant coffees and the lower grade 3-in-1. Thanks for pointing this out 👍

Acrylamide also occurs in potato fries/ crisps, soft crispy bread, breakfast cereals, biscuits and cakes i.e. essentially most Western foods.
