Usually in small towns and even in the bigger ones in Portugal, you can find the parts for the gas in a hardware shop, Maxmat or Bricomarche. It's so good to be able to eat the things of our land, it's the best feeling in the world!!!❤I love watching your videos!!!

Oh there’s not much in life that’s more rewarding than preserving your home grown produce, I guess gifting them makes it all the more joyful. If Crusoe doesn’t eat them all, can I suggest plum and apple jam? It’s scrummy! Pop some plums into the freezer until you are in a position to use up the windfall apples. Happy days lovely friends xx

Aha. I built my own bed in 2010 and although squeeky, it has held together perfectly. It even was a perfect match to my original headboard. Good luck. I only had hand screwdrivers, too. 😁 I can't wait to see yours. Your kitchen is sooo beautiful. I love it. Ducks live in ponds and are very waterproof. Rain won't hurt them one bit. Just saying!!

Hi! You don’t need to go to a Post Office (CTT) to pay the tolls, you can do it online, if your car has a Portuguese license plate and you have a Portuguese bank account with online services. It’s not completely straightforward, but you can generate a MB (Multibanco) reference number for your toll payment at CTT wbsite, and then you can use that number either at a bank ATM or using your bank online services. I would point out that in the long run buying a Via Verde tag will be cheaper because paying tolls using CTT has an extra cost for each toll.

What an idyllic place for children to grow and mature, into happy individuals. I was born in the 2nd city Birmingham, but thankfully my parents moved us to the Staffordshire/Shropshire borders into the gorgeous countryside. Where we grew lots of our own produce and had many pets including a Billy goat and turkeys. Such happy happy memories. Love the countryside and seaside. Love nature.

I'm almost sure you could source Vetiver plants through a permaculture group in Portugal. They are great grasses that form incredible root systems to stop soil erosion and can be cut for mulch. There is lots of info on other sites if you feel you want to research using this plant. When I had rain in Tenerife (very rare) it was usually monsoon like and caused deep rivets in the soil and uprooted new planting, creating berms alongside this plant could save you a lot of pain in the future. One more thing, if you make jam ,soak your fruit in the required quantity of sugar in a covered bowl for 24 hours before putting it onto the stove, The overnight maceration enormously improves the depth of flavour. No need to reply guys, I'm sure you are becoming overwhelmed with things to do. I just am happy to watch you grow together and you continue to inspire me in my new life.

So lovely to see you all happily picking the fruits given by mother earth . If you happen to be short on storage and space and want to lessen the workload , I peel chop and cook my apples into a semi puree with a little sugar , cool it and pop into freezer bags in the freezer and use for crumbles ,pies anything really all winter . I never have to buy fruit for cooking . Slice up lemons and bag them up and freeze ,they make lovely ice wedges in drinks so healthy . Hope you manage to use everything, it's great fun .

Tara, I’m so impressed that you took on making something you’ve never done before. I think it will taste yummy. We grew up making all kinds of things from our nine fruit trees in the little orchard. Two peach, two apricot, a nectarine, black plum, red plum (like you used) purple plum and one I called the green plum. (On the first three plums the deeper the color the more flavorful and sweet.). The “green” plum always stayed light green so no one ate from it but one day, I was about 8, I noticed that some had yellow or pink tips on the bottom, so I tried one of the pink tipped ones, it was delicious. That was my tree that summer. I was a selfish girl because I didn’t tell anyone how good it was till the next year. I told my sister who quickly told my three brothers and then Mom. It made great jam. One plum jam story: I was making red plum jam and I had scraped the foam off the top as it cooked and put it in a bowl. Then Dad brought home chocolate ice cream so we all got a bowl and for whatever reason I tried the warm jam part of the foam and it was so very yummy. I’m not a big chocolate person so having this on it made it something different, which was so good. Tara, since you told me to share tips with you I just want to encourage you to roll any citrus with your palm on the counter to loosen the juices up. If it’s still hard try 30 seconds in the microwave (that is if you use one) then roll it. Then grate the zest before you juice it, it’s so much easier to get the zest this way. You can also freeze juice with or without zest, for other days, in ice cube trays; once frozen put in freezer zipper bag. John I know you really dislike, perhaps hate, the bamboo But two things: One keep a lot of it to make Crusoe a fort with them, Indian TP style with an opening (of course). He will love hanging out in there letting his imagination go and just hiding out maybe reading a book The taller the better because ten foot tall Dad can go in there also. The second thing to add to your busy life is one vlog just to inspire you with bamboo’s uses. This couple makes beautiful simple things with it. I know you’ve had a tractor there to dig it up but perhaps it’s growing elsewhere and maybe you’ll put some of this amazing garden resourceful inspirations to work. The vlog I’m encouraging you to watch is Wu Vlog, 12/30/2021. Couple buys dilapidated house and make beautiful garden. This is pretty close to its description for you to find it. Wu plays the same 3-4 songs over and over so you may want to mute it. There is no talking unless you know Japanese. The best to you three!!!💕 Thanks for being a part of my life. Also forgot to mention, well done John on a good job with the bed, having a ready made one that you just screw together can be a right nightmare on your own, trying to hold it altogether as you fix the bits together, but from scratch, that's a whole different level. Good morning Tara, loved the plum process. I encourage you to research a "Victorio," for processing fruit. It's a large food strainer that clamps on a table. When making apple sauce you quarter apples, cook on stove with water until soft. It then grinds the peel into one container, and the sauce into another. No peeling of apples or decoring. It also has attachments for grapes and tomato juice. No electricity involved. Hope that helps.💓

Perhaps you could look into the concept of berms and swales to channel the rainwaters to where you want/need it to go; I don't know if that would be a viable strategy for your farm's layout, but it might be worth checking out. You've now seen where the water naturally flows, and the berms and swales could help guide water toward reservoirs.

Yes a swale in the Top field! Could it also be a natural swimming pond? French drains around your houses, guiding the rain into your water storage or irrigation tank?
Canning is so easy for a good majority of fruits. In addition, dehydrating some of it too for use later when the fruit is not in season. A small story: When my youngest was about 10 he came to me with a jar of jelly. He asked if it was good. I said of course since I just bought it. He looked at me and said, "but is it good?" I looked at him quizzically. Then he continued it's not in your usual jars. It was at that moment that I realized he'd never had store-bought jelly before. It still warms my heart when I think back on it.
Hi from NW Ohio in the USA. When you cut onions put a small bowl of water next to the cutting. The chemical that causes you to tear up is attracted to the closest water source. This simple trick will keep you from tearing up.

I was in Bahrain visiting my son and his wife who own Unisono , a Branding Agency.And was amused to see in one of the furniture shops a Rain Tube designed to make the European community out there feel at home - a long tube you tip up to make the sound of serious rain.How funny is that? Quickee tip - if you have lemons sun dry them till almost black then you can have dried lemon tea - very nice. @@TheNewbys
Allspice is so named because the taste reminds people of various different spices. I cooked my plums and extracted the pits after. After you've removed the pits, put them back in a pot of water to boil and clean. Remove the clean pits and you are left with plum juice!

Oh there’s not much in life that’s more rewarding than preserving your home grown produce, I guess gifting them makes it all the more joyful. If Crusoe doesn’t eat them all, can I suggest plum and apple jam? It’s scrummy! Pop some plums into the freezer until you are in a position to use up the windfall apples. Happy days lovely friends xx

Aha. I built my own bed in 2010 and although squeeky, it has held together perfectly. It even was a perfect match to my original headboard. Good luck. I only had hand screwdrivers, too. 😁 I can't wait to see yours. Your kitchen is sooo beautiful. I love it.
Ducks live in ponds and are very waterproof. Rain won't hurt them one bit. Just saying!!

Hi! You don’t need to go to a Post Office (CTT) to pay the tolls, you can do it online, if your car has a Portuguese license plate and you have a Portuguese bank account with online services.
It’s not completely straightforward, but you can generate a MB (Multibanco) reference number for your toll payment at CTT wbsite, and then you can use that number either at a bank ATM or using your bank online services.
I would point out that in the long run buying a Via Verde tag will be cheaper because paying tolls using CTT has an extra cost for each toll.
This is true but you cannot fit a tag to a hire car (which theirs looks like - you will probably end up paying double

What an idyllic place for children to grow and mature, into happy individuals. I was born in the 2nd city Birmingham, but thankfully my parents moved us to the Staffordshire/Shropshire borders into the gorgeous countryside. Where we grew lots of our own produce and had many pets including a Billy goat and turkeys. Such happy happy memories. Love the countryside and seaside. Love nature.

I'm almost sure you could source Vetiver plants through a permaculture group in Portugal. They are great grasses that form incredible root systems to stop soil erosion and can be cut for mulch. There is lots of info on other sites if you feel you want to research using this plant. When I had rain in Tenerife (very rare) it was usually monsoon like and caused deep rivets in the soil and uprooted new planting, creating berms alongside this plant could save you a lot of pain in the future. One more thing, if you make jam ,soak your fruit in the required quantity of sugar in a covered bowl for 24 hours before putting it onto the stove, The overnight maceration enormously improves the depth of flavour. No need to reply guys, I'm sure you are becoming overwhelmed with things to do. I just am happy to watch you grow together and you continue to inspire me in my new life.

So lovely to see you all happily picking the fruits given by mother earth . If you happen to be short on storage and space and want to lessen the workload , I peel chop and cook my apples into a semi puree with a little sugar , cool it and pop into freezer bags in the freezer and use for crumbles ,pies anything really all winter . I never have to buy fruit for cooking . Slice up lemons and bag them up and freeze ,they make lovely ice wedges in drinks so healthy . Hope you manage to use everything, it's great fun .

Tara, I’m so impressed that you took on making something you’ve never done before. I think it will taste yummy. We grew up making all kinds of things from our nine fruit trees in the little orchard. Two peach, two apricot, a nectarine, black plum, red plum (like you used) purple plum and one I called the green plum. (On the first three plums the deeper the color the more flavorful and sweet.). The “green” plum always stayed light green so no one ate from it but one day, I was about 8, I noticed that some had yellow or pink tips on the bottom, so I tried one of the pink tipped ones, it was delicious. That was my tree that summer. I was a selfish girl because I didn’t tell anyone how good it was till the next year. I told my sister who quickly told my three brothers and then Mom. It made great jam.
One plum jam story: I was making red plum jam and I had scraped the foam off the top as it cooked and put it in a bowl. Then Dad brought home chocolate ice cream so we all got a bowl and for whatever reason I tried the warm jam part of the foam and it was so very yummy. I’m not a big chocolate person so having this on it made it something different, which was so good.
Tara, since you told me to share tips with you I just want to encourage you to roll any citrus with your palm on the counter to loosen the juices up. If it’s still hard try 30 seconds in the microwave (that is if you use one) then roll it. Then grate the zest before you juice it, it’s so much easier to get the zest this way. You can also freeze juice with or without zest, for other days, in ice cube trays; once frozen put in freezer zipper bag.
John I know you really dislike, perhaps hate, the bamboo But two things: One keep a lot of it to make Crusoe a fort with them, Indian TP style with an opening (of course). He will love hanging out in there letting his imagination go and just hiding out maybe reading a book The taller the better because ten foot tall Dad can go in there also. The second thing to add to your busy life is one vlog just to inspire you with bamboo’s uses. This couple makes beautiful simple things with it. I know you’ve had a tractor there to dig it up but perhaps it’s growing elsewhere and maybe you’ll put some of this amazing garden resourceful inspirations to work. The vlog I’m encouraging you to watch is Wu Vlog, 12/30/2021. Couple buys dilapidated house and make beautiful garden. This is pretty close to its description for you to find it. Wu plays the same 3-4 songs over and over so you may want to mute it. There is no talking unless you know Japanese.

Good morning Tara, loved the plum process. I encourage you to research a "Victorio," for processing fruit. It's a large food strainer that clamps on a table. When making apple sauce you quarter apples, cook on stove with water until soft. It then grinds the peel into one container, and the sauce into another. No peeling of apples or decoring. It also has attachments for grapes and tomato juice. No electricity involved. Hope that helps.💓

Perhaps you could look into the concept of berms and swales to channel the rainwaters to where you want/need it to go; I don't know if that would be a viable strategy for your farm's layout, but it might be worth checking out. You've now seen where the water naturally flows, and the berms and swales could help guide water toward reservoirs.

Canning is so easy for a good majority of fruits. In addition, dehydrating some of it too for use later when the fruit is not in season. A small story: When my youngest was about 10 he came to me with a jar of jelly. He asked if it was good. I said of course since I just bought it. He looked at me and said, "but is it good?" I looked at him quizzically. Then he continued it's not in your usual jars. It was at that moment that I realized he'd never had store-bought jelly before. It still warms my heart when I think back on it.

If you make jam don't do what I did - burn it. I now have ten jars of bramble jelly , burnt in my cupboard which I cannot bear to dispose of. All those berries picked - painful. Lovely to see your enthusiasm and joy surfacing every program - Love you guys .xx

Rain Rain Go Away! I was in Bahrain visiting my son and his wife who own Unisono , a Branding Agency.And was amused to see in one of the furniture shops a Rain Tube designed to make the European community out there feel at home - a long tube you tip up to make the sound of serious rain.How funny is that? Quickee tip - if you have lemons sun dry them till almost black then you can have dried lemon tea - very nice. @@TheNewbys

I cooked my plums and extracted the pits after.
After you've removed the pits, put them back in a pot of water to boil and clean. Remove the clean pits and you are left with plum juice!

Hey you two lovely people. I haven't been able to comment on the last two videos and only just figured out why. So much to be so happy about. The chicken and duck make my heart sing with joy, I love them so much. My goodness Crusoe is growing so much and his vocabulary is getting awesome, so nice to see he is always so happy whatever he does. The fruit growing looks awesome, it is just so nice to see you all.
