      This guy wrote the proverbial book on increasing 2v modular horsepower. .. he knows about adapter plates , intakes and the low hp potential of the 2v ... but I get it we all still dream of high hp 2v engines .

    • @madmod
      @madmod 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be fair, times have changed since many of these tests were done and tech has improved even for these 2v's. For example, he had to make his own intake manifold to support the power he wanted because nothing was available then. The aftermarket support that was available when Richard was building these two valve engines has improved and people know what works better. Another example, I know for a fact that the off-shelf cam specs that comp uses are less than ideal for a 2v. Once you go past the duration needed to make power with the stock pi intake manifold you just lose midrange power for comparable peak gains. None of the comp grinds for pi or npi heads have tight enough lsa for optimized na use, and most of the pi high lift cams dont even fit without fly-cuts or retarding the cam which further softens up the mid-range(more of an issue of the stock pi heads, valves, and lack of ptv clearance with pi heads). What is funny is companies like MHS, and Cushman have consistently pushed that NPI heads can fit cams so much more aggressive than what would even fit a stock pi headed long-block without bending valves. Nick had his recession buster 2v combos, and both them and cms still havd some of the best modular cams available.

    Richard, thank you for making this video.
    I'm new to the 2V world, and trying to work out a great engine set up for my Mustang.
    I'm having a hard time figuring out which cam I should get for the 2V. There is so much information out there and my eyes go crossed looking at it all.
    The engine is a 1998 NPI Block, but previous owner did the PI intake and head swap. I haven't been into the engine get into the engine yet to identify what cam is in it now, but I know I wanted to move to something that was going to give me an increase on the top end for road track use.
    I have read different things on different forums, and frankly, it scares me that I'm going to buy and install the wrong ones.
    Any suggestions on which cam to put in?

      I run the xe262ah and love it. If you're staying with stock intake the drivability is grwat. Throw hrow those cams in and you won't regret it. On mine the power is excellent from 3500 to 6k

      I 2nd the xe262ah or MHS stage 2 with there degree service is even slightly better in my opinion but either cam's work fantastic and would not go any larger for a NPI - PI head swapped car because PTV clearance is extremely limited

    If you could build your dream 4.6 what would you do? Would love a complete dream build out list from the rotating assembly, boost, cams, intake,
    My plan so far is to go boosted and have a couple turbos laying around my shop. I want to do a serious rotating assembly and bump compression a bit. I know it sounds silly but I'm after a wild idle. Hoping for 500 to the wheels. Already installed a built trans and 4:30 rear gears. I've heard these motors can spin up pretty high over 7k if you have enough valve spring in them and probably would upgrade the oil pan and oil pump.

      Long tube headers are not going to work in california. Have thought about some type of boost in the 5 to 6 lbs range. Since it's stock, the rings probably won't be able to take much more heat due to expansion than that.

      I'd love to see a similar test to this with the 3v as well. It seems like a lot of people severely over cam the 3v and are disappointed with the lousy powerband as a result. Since none of the aftermarket ecu's are set up well to run the VCT, run them locked out with the TFS 2v/4v adjustable crank gears and run them at a 108 or 110 degree ICL, then pick one of the cams and run it at 102 or 104 ICL to get a bit of an idea of what the potential is by using the VCT.
      A lot to ask but it would be great information for the community.

    Hey Richard - so this test motor was essentially a stock bullet motor right? And those were rated at 265hp/305lbft. This stock combo put down 346hp/362lbft. Does that mean that headers/tune/open tb/acc delete are worth ~80 hp? Or were these severely underrated?
